would like to cut some length off of this barrel, the gun shoots great the way it is, standard 700 parkerized police, but its just too cumbersome. About how much am I looking at to have a smith cut this barrel down, and what crown should I be asking for when it's done. Hoping the rifle will continue to shoot as good as it does after the cut.

I have seen this listed on many sites at around $110 dollars. I have the same gun and am having a local smith do mine . I just dropped it off Ftiday. He said $40 to cut and crown the barrel.

Why would I need to do this, just curious not familiar with this. Like I said I just want the barrel to be shorter.

If you have loose chamber you can have it recut. Also if there is a bullet you like and so dose the rifle. It can be cut for a tight chamber. Put the bullet .010 off the lands and you should see an improvement in accuracy.
