Some of you guys make make me laugh...

Specifically, the ones crying about a few missing permissions and incapable of a handling a little change or having a shred of patience. However, some of the pining for the old days did make me think back to days gone by on SH.

I certainly don't remember the past near as rose colored as some. When I think back, what I remember most strongly are the stupid fads. Zombie apocalypse anyone? Then once we stamped that shit out with ridicule it simply turned into the SHTF apocalypse. There was the military stick in mud mentality fad of the 308 is the best cartridge, PERIOD!!! Then once proved wrong, it became the 308 is the best starting cartridge ever. It didn't end there... lest we forget about the operator wannabe's(Frank's parody), the I need to shoot 1000 yards and many others. I do miss some of the piss and vinegar passion of old, but for me looking back on the past days of SH strongly resembled this parody series(see attached).

What do some of you others remember when you think back on the old times on SH?

Good information about scopes. But, as you noted, when you ask a question you get a keyboard commando telling you did it all wrong. Or, someone selling somthing that will argue it's the greatest thing since the wheel for everything, i.e. .300 Blackout to 800.

I remember some insanely funny members and miss them. I also remember the reasonable expectation that on any given day there would be at least one massive screaming fuck you of a flame war going on somewhere on the forum.

By my mind there was also a shit ton more daily activity on the boards that dropped massively with the move to Scout and doesn't seem to have recovered yet with our move back.

Shankster??...miss him

Ya, where is Shankster and PPB and Maggot? Did all get a spanking, never to return?
I don't think the forums will ever be the same with the loss of Celt and others from days past.
I do miss a lot of the OLD members and don't know if it was Scout that did it or what.
It is for sure not the Old Days and I do understand that but we have for sure lost a lot of members for some reason or another and some but not all are missed.
Some I miss and some not so much.
The world turns and I am but a speck in it and some may be pushing up roots from the ground, I don't know.
I will hang in there until spanked or someone really pisses me off, then I may join their ranks.
The ranks have for sure been thinned and we need a lot of the old members back. Some of them had a lot of knowledge like MarkCo as to how things could go but are gone and were able with their posts to quell arguments etc. I miss them all.
It is nice to have a forum where things go at a slower rate unlike AR-15 but it does become apparent at times that we are at a snails pace. FM

Well, the hide is best at optics for actual tactical shooting and knowledge transfer, and shit, if you go to the obscure sub forums, like the whole dam Advanced Marksmanship section and all its sub forums, you will be hard pressed to find any other knowledge transfer gold mine anywhere in the world, that section should require at least a secret classification to click into. I think the rest of the hide is an obscure spin off of the Advanced Marksmanship section, without it this place almost becomes AR15.com. We have lost a few good knowledgeable people but a lot remain, and I thank them.

I am switching focus back to the 308 and 300 WM in my supply chain, the Gucci 6.5 still has a spot but I am stocking up for a SHTF moment and it is 308, 223 green tips, and 300 WM Black tips , that get the money.

Douchebaggery quotient is about the same, VeerG makes sure of that :)

Lindy...not so hilarious but definitely a resource when it came to ballistics.

Walking ballistic computer......I swear he can feel a 50’ change in density altitude in his soul. One of my favorite people on the planet. He is missed around here.

Oh, the Spin D video. So many good ideas drinking whiskey after a match at RO. Some bad ones too. Not sure which is better, Spin D or Butter Flavor Wind Cheater. Hardest part was not laughing during filming.

I was late to the party, joined in 2013 before the move to scout. My favorite memories were the OAF video and the LaRue video. But i’ll always appreciate the amount of knowledge one can find here if willing to do a little reading.

I miss the shout box...and I miss some members both gone from this site and this world. Its sort of coming back to us after the Scout thing I feel, but shit there is a lot of missing knowledge here now that a lot of good contributors have checked out.

I also to some extent miss the post-308 golden era frankly. We learned about 6.5, and 6mm. .260 Remington swept the floor for a while, and then 6.5CM...then 6.5GAP. We went from 5 choices for good optics to 50. Amazing times. Now its mostly caliber boredom...and the industry caught up with our market so hard that innovation seems dead in our world.

I mean, how about a railgun or something for fucks sake?

There is a lot I miss from the "Old Hide" like the original Hot GF thread. Amber in particular. Classy lady there, and beautiful to boot. But I learned a ton here over the years since joining in '01 or so. Now I think some of us are here but rarely post anymore. Some may have had to change their names during the back and forth. I find the rank and file now days to be less informed, and more than willing to spew whatever they believe rather than expand their knowledge. But in hind sight there was a lot of that going on back then as well. I remember posting years ago in the ELR section about my 1st attempt to hit at 2000 yds with my 300WM. I'll never forget the shit-storm that started, nor all the know-it-alls that straight up called me a liar because my pics showed impacts on steel that obviously hit point first. "All bullets will destabilize before that range so they couldn't possibly hit point first." Now shots like that are common, and "everybody" has done it.
Hopefully we can recover some of what we had here back then. But I'll not hold my breath.

I remember when accuracy guarantees were a thing. Frank and Jacob’s “This rifle is shit” thread, about a GA rifle that shot ragged holes despite no accuracy guarantee. Epic! Always regret not copying that.

I remember at lot from the past - SH has gone through a lot of changes and Frank I must say this is the best so far.

A lot of the old contributors I remember well and miss - in no particular order, Boltripper, Doorkicker, & Lindy for his sage words and insight. Maser was good for a laugh. Rolex and ChrisF - you guys still about ?

I seem to remember a user called "Nobody" - posted much about hunting Alaska and long range shooting. He was wildly entertaining but seemed to have a penchant for getting himself banned on the regular.

That was Larry

He is known by many names - Nobody, Gawddamnedright, etc.

I miss him. He actually had a unique perspective and if you could wade through the Larry speak, you could actually pick up some good info regarding shooting and reloading.

He hurt too many tender feelers though so he is banned...he is alive and well on other forums.

... if you could wade through the Larry speak, you could actually pick up some good info regarding shooting and reloading...

No doubt a unique character and not at all unintelligent, but his single greatest attribute had to be turning threads into a flaming balls of crap quicker than other with his "Larry speak" attacks.

Yup...he has little tolerance, if any. There is one forum where he is actually polite. Seems no matter where I go, he is there doing the same old shit. He trashed me once for asking a question instead of agreeing with him. A couple of weeks later, I tried what he said. Problem solved.

His delivery sucks but it is entertaining and he knows quite a bit...more than most window lickers

He was actually a good example of how to conduct yourself when someone flipped out. He would go on one of his "Larry speak" attacks. I disagreed with him on an issue. But rather than get butt hurt about the ensuing attack, I reiterated it was a question about the topic, not questioning his creds. Most people couldn't do that.

Forgot about the "window lickers"
