Just thought I'd throw this out there, but for those who're constantly asking about 'what to ship in' and whatnot, there is this option:

    Fluorescent Tube Cases.

These are very strong boxes, come in the same general shape and size, are marked Fragile already, and are both obvious and inconspicuous at the same time.

    Length is 48 1/2" (outside)

    Width is 10" (outside)

    Height is 8" (outside)

So for those of you who're concerned about 'how to "dissuade temptation" of the carriers employees and whatnot, there is this option.

Or not, that's up to you. Of course it would still need to be marked accordingly and properly on the waybill and whatnot, but from the casual observer, this is not a thought or desire.

I think the people worried about that sort of thing have never been to a UPS hub before. (I am assuming Fedex is pretty much the same)

I worked there a decade ago, and trust me, there was no way in hell for any employee to steal a gun. The entire place was surrounded by 10+ feet fences topped with barbed wire, and you had to walk through both a metal detector and a hand scanner to get in and out, as well as having any bags, etc. searched. And remember, this was a decade ago, I am sure they have even tighter security now. And in the off chance that it did happen, UPS would drop everything immediately and devote all of their resources to tracking it down, so as to avoid any possible liability.

The only reason I can see to be concerned is if you are leaving the gun on your porch for a UPS pickup, but even then if it gets stolen, that has little to do with UPS and pretty much everything to do with the person shipping it being an idiot and just leaving a gun unattended on their porch.

And if you pack it up and print the labels at home yourself, when you go to drop off a rifle at the hub, ALWAYS have them scan it in in front of you and provide a receipt.
