Kestrel Partners with Applied Ballistics Inc. to Integrate Well-Regarded Ballistics Calculator into New Kestrel Shooter’s Weather Meter
BOOTHWYN, PA – Nielsen-Kellerman (NK), creator and manufacturer of Kestrel® Weather & Environmental Meters, has partnered with Applied Ballistics, Inc., experts on the science of accuracy and precision for long-range shooting, to launch an addition to Kestrel’s Ballistics Weather Meter line of products. The brand-new Kestrel Shooter’s Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics allows users to calculate accurate fire control solutions for long-range rifle shooting, in addition to measuring up to 15 environmental parameters. The new Shooter’s Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics will make its first appearance at SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Jan. 15-18, 2013, and will be available for pre-order for spring 2013 production.
With integrated Applied Ballistics software, Kestrel users are now able to select from either G1 or G7 ballistic coefficients (BC) when calculating a trajectory. The new Ballistics Kestrel also offers the “Litz” measured BC library of over 225 bullets, a library that is considered to be the most extensive source of measured data for modern small arms bullets. In addition to these features, users can “train” the software to match a specific rifle based on observed impacts at long range with the ballistics calibration feature. With more accurate BC data, shooters are empowered to make more precise trajectory calculations.
Another notable feature is the Kestrel Shooter’s Weather Meter with Applied Ballistics’ ability to connect to wind sensor arrays designed and sold by Applied Ballistics. Various wind array sensors placed on the range for sniper training applications will be able to report wind data back to the Kestrel Meter at greater distance than ever before defined in a handheld weather meter. Like all Kestrels, this meter is IP67 waterproof and MIL-STD-810F rugged, allowing users to avoid the expense and weight of a ruggedized PDA. The new unit also allows PC access to a full bullet catalog with the Bluetooth® wireless data transfer option.
Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters are manufactured by NK, which has been researching, developing and manufacturing technically advanced environmental instruments for more than 15 years and owns multiple patents on their unique features. Kestrel Weather & Environmental Meters are employed by thousands of users in hundreds of demanding activities around the world. Every Kestrel meter is pocket-sized, rugged, accurate, waterproof, easy-to-use, and backed by an industry-leading five-year warranty.
