Re: SHWW Group

Just a thought for TSI's September shoot. I'm sure all of us have a box of bullets, a set of dies, some extra primers-brass etc., that we don't need and it's just taking up space on the loading bench. Since we don't have beaucoup sponsors( YET ) for the Field Shooters- Sagebrush Steel Challenge...maybe we could include something with our entry to create a prize table of our own.

Whaddya think folks?

Anybody know how to get a hold of Benchmark? They used to pick up their phone, but I've been trying to call for a while now and can't get an answer. I want to meet them tomorrow to discuss some work they did, but last time I showed up unannounced nobody was there.

Nevermind; kept calling and they did pick up. Sounds like nobody will be there tomorrow.

Thanks,

Re: SHWW Group

Well guys, looks like I'm leaving tomorrow on my last trip back to Montana before I graduate in December. Just wanted to give a big thanks to Mike and Travis for the help with getting my rifle set up this summer and getting me out shooting!

Re: SHWW Group

Hey guys I just wanted to give my gunsmith JD c/o High Speed Shooting. He called me last week to let me know my 7.5tw .224 barrel arrived. So I took him my rifle, and I will be damned if he didnt call me on Friday to tell me it was ready to go. Throated for 75 AMAX's and proofed fired with 26gr of Winny 748.

If anyone around here needs some good work, and done quickly, I highly recommend getting in contact with JD 509-945-6623. BTW they can cut metric threads now also!!

Yes, in a round about way, you either need the new Discover Pass, or the wild life pass that you get with your Fishing license ( and maybe hunting license, but I don't have one of those).
While shooting today we had a visit by Scott's Game Warden friend, he wrote a warning to Alan and told him that he had a week to purchase one of the two passes.
BTW you guys missed a Great morning for shooting in Ellensburg, see you all in September.

+1 to this. JD does great work at a fair price in a timely fashion. Anyone looking for precision rifle work should give him a call. Of course he does handguns and other general 'smithing as well.

I got there around 8:00 and there was just a light 3-5 mph wind, by noon it was pretty standard 5mph wind that would gust and then fall off. It was getting worse so it was a good time to get back home and work on my reloading.
Here is some ballistic information for you guys, there was a DA of 3800 feet, so my bullets flew like they were 25 fps faster than I had originally charted for.
Something for you guys to keep in mind when you prep for September.

Re: SHWW Group

Just got back from Mazama. Had butiful weather, @ 5400' ASL. Went out on Sat AM for some bear hunting, but didn't see any. Actually only saw 1 deer the whole weekend! I usually see about 20 on a bad year. Somethings up over there.
So we didn't see any furry things to shoot so I did some field work on FFS with the new 225 load.
58* F
24.77" hg Station pressure
45% humidity
Wind was constant @ 1.5 mph from 9:00 o'clock.
1304 yds. FFS pridicted 37 1/2 moa, & 2moa left, & I hit about 2' high. I ended up adjusting my MV, etc to get the program on the right dope.(Can't account for the error. I just zero'd, & chrony'd a few days ago.)
Today I went back up to see if everything held, & tried 1490yd. CB hits 1 moa high, & the next two shots were right on. Couldn't ask for better conditions for ELR shooting. 2 hits on a 10" rock @ almost 1500 yd. Priceless!
Took some pics of the area. The area I'm thinking of doing BSCIV, & I'll get them up in a while.
Also gave my new Eberlestock GS2 a work out hauling all my hunting gear along with my normal shooting gear. LOVE this pack!!
Oh yeah. Tibor says HI to all the SHWW guys. Maybe we'll see you in Sep.

Re: SHWW Group

Anyone near Silverdale/Bremerton (or within an hours drive or ferry ride) have a good bore sighter they would lend me for mounting a USO ST-10 I just picked up. I wanted to try and mount it myself for the 1st time. Also any recommendations on a decent torque wrench? I haven't seen or used a Borka but it seems to pop up quite a but here on the hide...

It is probably not the most precise instrument in the world, but I find the Wheeler a good value for the price, and does things well enough for my gun purposes. Its adjustable, so I use it for everything from installing scope rings to screwing the action down into the stock/bottom metal.

I'm still waiting for Tibor to get me the pics he took, but here's a few teasers.

The place is a lot greener than I've ever seen it this time of year. We can get ranges as far as anyone can shoot up there, & with the elevation the bullets really fly. If I can get it together, I want to host BSCIV up there. Right now the road into the valley where I want to make base camp is closed for a slide, & I went in by another road. (actually a jeep trail more like.) But hopefully the FS will have the rd open soon so we can have some fun up there.

Re: SHWW Group

I'll try to bring some self adhesive Smokey Bear nametags to the September shindig, so that folks with short and long term memory loss like me can perhaps remember a name and face for more than a couple of minutes.

Nice pics Bigwheels. Were you, by any chance, trying to get into the area around the Pearrygin Creek Slide? It ran about 6 miles (maybe) down the canyon to the state park/campground/lake? What was your actual density altitude?

Re: SHWW Group

The area is actually off of Cub Creek. The DA was around 6500' +/- depending on time of day. And I was planning on doing a 2 day event up there if I can. Possibly even some FFP's @ GPS cords, with compass bearings to the TGT's. And since there are literally miles of space to play up there, I was going to put some distance between the stations too. But the air is awful thin up there, so everyone will have to kinda take it easy. I'm going to call the FS, & see what their plans are for the road. If they don't fix it, there is another way in, but it's more like a jeep trail than a road now, but it could get us in there, & we'd have the whole valley to ourselves.

Re: SHWW Group

Just a heads up to the local guys, I just found out I will be working out of state for the winter and I decided to sell/trade off my snowmobile so it doesnt sit all winter long. So if you have some guns collecting dust and want to turn them into something fun for the winter let me know.

Heres a link to all the info and pictures. Snowmobile Info

Feel free to make me offers,

Thanks!

Re: SHWW Group

Here are some more pics (curtesy of Tibor) of the area I want to do BSCIV next year. The elevation there is about 5000'-6000'ASL & the weather can be like we had last weekend, or...

I'm still waiting on a responce from the USFS about the road in there. I want to camp in the saddle across from where I was this time. The camp site is about 1/2 mile up the lower rd from the 1500 yd rock on the left. Can't actually se it from there. I think there's the makings of a great shoot up there, especially if the weather cooperates.
Tibor took over 100 pics over the weekend. I just took a few to post up here for everyone. I hope I can get this match together up there for next year. Due to the remoteness of the area it will almost have to be a 2 day event, just so people can get there, & back. So plan for a weekend of high mountain shooting next June, or July. Depending on when the snow pack melts off enough to get up there.
