THAT doesn't make any damn sense, anywhere else I have ever hunted so long as there is an active season open on anything that firearms are allowed invasive species are generaly included.

And I asked him, hypothetically, if I were to bring a dozen pipe-hitting snipers into Florida in January or February... with the goal of killing as many pythons as possible... how it might be set up. Public land... private land... whatever. Airboats. A strip-motel that we can take over somewhere. Guides. And a week of killing invasive species. We'll bring our own weapons, based on circumstances.

If a species is declared invasive, there should be no closed season and one should be able to kill by any means, as long as it's within the law.
Managing game and non- game should be left up to the experts, not public emotion.
This reminds me when I lived in South Dakota, we had mountain lions in the Black Hills and surrounding prairies.
I asked a Fish and Game officer I knew about opening a season on them.
Since I was in the regional office he just shook his head and said here's a pamphlet we have to hand out.
The packet basically said that the cats roamed through the areas, but there were no known residents... blah, blah, blah...
I handed it back to him and asked if he knew about over a half dozen specific cats that were around year long.
He said he knew of them also, but the pamphlet was the official position of the state.
I let him know that if another cat came as close as the one that morning (Turkey hunting) it might just catch a load of #3 to the chest.
He just told me to make sure I have a shovel.
With all that nonsense, the state opened a season on them two years later. Must have had a major migration or something...

Bear season here in the Ocala forest met with a bunch of public outcry. They offered like 400 tags. It took less than two days to cook the quota.
Apparently we have a lot of bears too.

I just want to head shoot the snakes and let the ants eat the bodies. If someone wants the stinky things, they are welcome to them.

I have a blackpowder muzzle loader but would rather use something else so I can kill more.
It makes no sense to me to not use your best on an invasive species.
Kind of like wanting to charge hunters to help you kill feral hogs that are ruining your land in Texas, Kansas, wherever.
I don't pay to help eradicate pests so I don't hunt hogs down south and doubt I get to hunt snakes but would be happy to pay my share of costs to do both.
Should I ever get feral hogs or other pests that cause problems on my farm it is open season and I will supply the beer.
In the past I have welcomed Prairie dog hunters with open arms and they helped me fix the problem and they didn't leave thirsty. FM
