I feel your pain. About a quarter of my family, friends, and neighbors all believe that, it's fucking insanity. Never mind the fact that Trump kept Iran, Putin, and Xi in their place. The hatred, and public takedown of Trump is more important to these people than our national well being. As horrible as this is going to sound, if we go back to the days when the Allies actually won wars - raising cities to the ground because enemy combatants were hiding amongst the civilian population and refusing to come out would be considered acceptable. Just look up the firebombings of Dresden, Tokyo, Hamburg etc.

Even if Israel does not move in this thing is far from over. True casualties from Israels bombing are probably around 30k. Does anyone here seeing the strikes think its any less. This is one of the densest populated areas in the world. There is no way back to the status quo. Israel will not allow gaza to be rebuilt and infrastructure to support life is destroyed.
IMO the references to hiroshima and nagasaki are not applicable to the situation today. A we have seen in recent conflicts technology becomes a very strong determiner of outcomes. If technology is used to destroy a enemy what is the situation afterwords? To prevail a nation must always remain the leader in not just one technology but all technologies in all environments. A impossible task. Perhaps even more disturbing to me is that IMO is that a society like this is fundamentally contrary to the liberties this country was founded upon that we all enjoy. If technolgy is to be the sword by wich we live or die there is simply no way to ensure sucess in a modern world. Anyone been to Shenzhen lately? They are not exactly feeding pigs there.
Its the dilemma every gangster faces. Sure you can do something terrible to rivals. The quality of life waiting for payback is not so hot.
While the current crisis is less dangerous in the short term then Ukraine as we dont see two nuclear super powers in conflict via proxy in the long term we really need to consider the consequences of devastating use of force to our standard of living. IMO this assesment needs to be based on realistics criteria of the world as it is in the present not the world of the past where USA became the sole nation to posess a destructive technology- for a while.
IMO pursuing this course of action in todays world may well lead to multiple destructive technologies indepedant of each other being created and in hands not necesarily the USAs. Israels possesion of nuclear weapons is a good example of the unpredicability of such situations Netanyahus Likud part had a 10% approval rating recently due to the "judicial refrm" where the Israeli Judicial branch was castrated with power becoming soley executive branch. Thus the safeties of a representative government are removed. Conveniantly the current crisis removes all dissent as the tribal us vs them becomes the dominent operating principle.
IMO humanities sole hope lies in the quite dificult task of getting along. Otherrs have other ideas -transhumanism where humanities basis is hacked. The current crisis we witness is quite contrary to this and there are very few that see that gettiing along benefits all. In the short term use of destructive technologies may appear a solution but in the intermediate to long term as every nation in the world scrambles to develop destructive technologies the inevitable result is a verty high stakes game where there are really no winners. One might hope that this obvious reality would motivate all nations to get along. Not much of a fan of hope. Our species has a long history of might makes right and when it was mano au mano it was a acceptable solution.

I have never traveled to either Israel or Palestine. It has been my experience that all cultures have some qualites that are to my taste some that are not. The children of both seem innocent as always. A true expression of god. The women of both seem attractive. Of them all I prefer the USA. Its a function of comfortableness. You cant get away from what you are. Your roots
Genocide seems to me the greatest sin. The blood lust and cruelty in its implementation despicable. The ending of women and children a direct denial of the beauty and order of gods creation. Abomination.
For a long time in my life I activly denied compassion. I suceeded. I thought it was necessary to be tough. But in the end it almost killed me being empty inside. Its like dieing before you are dead. I would never return to that way.

That’s pretty much SOP in the ME and the East. The standards of care are less than ideal. I have seen dudes that have pretty severe head wounds being placed on the back of motorcycles and hauled to hospitals (like they would stay conscious enough the whole way) and expected to hold on, POS ambulances with absolutely nothing inside to stabilize a patient and hospitals full of flies and vermin. It’s not for lack of desire, it’s ignorance and lack of medical training. Those that did know proper procedures are overwhelmed by the lack of resources and do the best they can. It’s all futile since infection is going to kill them anyway. Realistically it does no good to try to step in and help - you just get pulled into the storm and it ends up making no difference and you have all the emotional baggage of being part of the nightmare while very little gets accomplished. It’s just the way it is. People who equate what is going on there to patient care here don’t comprehend how rudimentary it is almost everywhere else. You go into shock, you’re dead. You get a severe cut, you’re dead. Sepsis, dead. The best is to die fast. The ones that died in Gaza when those buildings collapsed are lucky. If that insults someone’s sensibilities they need to get the training and go there. They will find out soon enough.
ETA: the only people who care anyway is the family. The caregivers can’t get emotionally attached to every person or they would burn out. Everyone that can help just goes through the motions and figures out who to treat that has the best chances - instinctual triage based on resources and knowledge. Not everyone can be saved. It’s a shit show of the highest magnitude. Adults, children, infants, babies. It fucking sucks.

lariat is right about 3rd world trauma care from what i know of here in US and what i have heard from knowledgeable others. i have often had a fear of some SHTF event and subsequent wasting of limited resources. americans and their doctors have no concept of triage. it has always been throw everything at the worst and usually hopeless cases as if there is no end to supply. in SHTF resupply will not be happening. my guess is that the average large hospital has no more than 2/3 days of drugs,fluid,surgical equipment etc if that. as i said,american way of trauma care is to throw the max at the worst and bump more minor things which could be fixed with limited supplies down to 2nd or 3rd level of response. this doesn't even take into account things like cleaning instruments,treatment areas,security resources,housing patients,food,much more. staff shortage also a big maybe. in this case military trained corpsmen should be put in charge of triage. they are trained in triage during combat and that is what we are looking at in terms of damage,injuries and logistics.
Let's do a mental exercise. Why would you not fire on these terrorists? Now use the same logic being a drone operator on the other side of the world, firing on terrorists that can't even see or hear you. Just out of curiosity, would you do that?
The rocket itself was a crude homemade pipe affair but the 10-15lb warhead on it detonated several tons of mortar rounds and grenades they stashed INSIDE the hospital. A fucking hospital... Let that sink in for a second on how much they value any human lives, including their own...
I don’t have an opinion on where this rocket came from (I simply don’t have enough information).
But the odds of a 15lb explosive fired (even intentionally) towards a building the size of a hospital containing mortar rounds and happening to land close enough for a sympathetic detonation are almost closer to zero than zero.
That particular theory I’m not buying without significant evidence.
You have valid points here. Just like Ukraine, there is so much static and potential misinformation coming out from there right now that it is almost impossible to get a clear picture of what is really going on. The only thing that is TRULY clear at the moment is that 1200-1400 people, mostly civilians, had been savagely butchered last week and there are two main enemies of all innocent people on both sides, Hamas, and the Israeli government for their gun control laws which enabled the slaughter in the first place.
This is my 2nd reply to this post. If we added more BRRRRRTTT, I wonder how many FBI agitators we'd lose?
