It does not work harden brass from my experiance! I have been using it for several years and with normal loads (Not max) and annealing every 3rd firing I am getting 10+ out of my brass!

There is very minimal impact in the tumbler.

Like stated before, it's not like beating it with a hammer.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Thanks Terry for all the time you put into this. Sent out a MO to Mark for the media and ordered a Thumler from Buffaloarms. I'll post my results soon!

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Called and spoke to a rep at Envirocon Tech the Makers of Lemi Shine today.

I asked the if they could tell me if there was any ammonia base in the product. The rep assured me that there was no Ammonia in Lemi Shine nor was there any sulfates either. The Rep stated it was all made from naturally occurring materials and that the was absolutely nothing in the product that would harm cartridge brass.

I think I answered the same question earlier in this thread. Terry is right. You are not hitting the brass with a hammer to change its structure. All this stuff does is scrub the brass. It actually may increase the life of the brass by cleaning the inside better than corncob/walnut does, thus reducing pressure by having a greater volume inside the case (real world results...maybe). It definitely will not shorten the life.

Terry it's just a dishwasher rinse aid. Cascade Crystal Clear. I had some at home and just thought I would try it. Just like the Lemi Shine. It helps with getting the media out of the cases too. Just did a bunch of 22 hornet and they just fell out. Before with some other 22 cal cases I had to shake more to get them out.
It just makes the water wetter

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

With everyone trying different soaps and cleaning agents! Some being winners and others being WELL YOU KNOW (Murhpy's Oil Soap)

Lets try to watch what we do on how much we add. So others may try the same! Hummer is going scientific by using known volumes.

If we find something that works then we can all replicate the formula! A squirt of this and a dash of this is hard to measure.

using cases to measure is a good way to go! We all probaly have them and they can't be too far off from each other!

Apparently I'm watching the wrong cooking shows they don't use measuring devices or exact amounts
laugh.gif

I use such a small amount and don't think it's a big deal if I use the 'exact' amount each time.
I just measured and I use about 1/4 teaspoon(1.23cc) of the Cascade and a little less than a 1/2 teaspoon of dish soap,Joy this time (2.4cc)

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

I'm just the opposite, I will see how little I can get by with. Guess I must have watched too much Jack Benny growing up.

The last load I did with some 22 hornet just came out looking so purdy I can't believe it.

Adding the Cascade made such a difference I stopped using lemon juice in it.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Has anybody noticed that ther primer pockets have somehow gotten slightly tighter? It was my first time using the tumbler with the ss media that I just recieved, and the brass was fired 2 times , anyways they came out very clean. But I am curious about the primer pockets feeling tighter?? Not complaining I like it.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Elmerdeer:

Have not noticed that on my brass. However, I have had some PM's saying that primers seamed to seat a little stiffer. Maybe some other SS Media converts chime in on what they have noticed.

Terry i like it that the pocket are slightly tighter, I am trying to figure it out, maybe its becuase the ss media is new and it sort of scuffs the brass ever so slightly, and when the edges of the media lose their sharpness the primer pockets will get back to the way they were? Just a thought.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Went to Wally World today and found the perfect measuring beaker for us. It is in kitchen equipment where all the Anchor Brand stuff is.
Starts measuring at .5 ounce, 15ML, 1 Tablespoon,3 teaspoons.
It is glass and sells for only 1.50. Max volume is 5 ounces.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

What I have been using is the Measuring cup out of a tub of Oxy Clean. The measuring cup reads 1oz on the bottom of the cup.

See below:

DSC00727.jpg

I fill it 1/2 full of Ivory Dish soap and add to the tumbler a full 9mm case of Lemi Shine.

Below is some 45ACP Brass I picked up from a USPSA Shoot they had last weekend.

DSC00724.jpg

I put the tumbler on tonight at 6:30 and just cleaned it out at 10:00pm. Below is how they came out.

DSC00725.jpg

This combination has really been producing great results at the 3-4hr tumble time.

Going to try some of the others like Cascade this weekend.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

My buddy was over last night and noticed that I had added pieces of Skid Guard to the bearing surface of the barrel to help with Slippage. You can pick it up at Home Depot of Lowe's for $2-$3 buck. It for sure keeps the barrel from slipping on the rollers if they are a little wet or if the drum is on the heavy side.

1st batch. 100pcs 308. 1tsp Dawn, 1tsp Cascade Rinse (my Wally World was out of the Lemishine, I believe Hummer tried the rinse, thanks). 4hr run time. Brass looks brand new inside/out! Dried it in the oven. Ordered a axial fan from www.digikey.com, will put together a ammo can dryer.

Thanks again Terry for the time you have put into this.

Yes, it is pricey! It does well with warm water and dirty brass. I used to use it with steel wool to get the brass clean. However, it did not do so well getting the inside of the cases clean. Have not used it with the SS media!

Ivory and Lemi shine is what I am sticking with.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

No one wants to try the liquid laundry detergent huh? I have been using a 1/4 cup of wisk and it seems to work better than the dish stuff.

Wife gets bitchy when I take the Ivory! Hell if I used her Laundry stuff she would flip out!

I bought my own stash of Ivory and Lemi Shine! LOL!

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

ok check this out...

I wend and got some lemon shine and tried it. now i may have not used it correctly because after tumbling the brass i noticed that 4 seemed to have what looked like a chem burn on them and all of the other brass seemed to have a rainbow coloring to it..

Any info on this? Should I have mixed it in the H2o first?

Stopped using it until I get more info

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

I typically fill the tumbler with water and the media. Then I add the 9mm case of Lemi Shine and stir it with my hand a little. After that I add the 1/2oz of Ivory and my brass!

Do not over due it on how much Lemi shine you add! A 9mm case in the Thumlers Tumbler really gets the results!

Try that and see how it works for you!

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

I just looked in my 22 hornet brass and see that over half have a piece of media stuck over the primer hole. Must be just the right size

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Has anyone else got their rifle brass this clean?

SDC10198.jpg

I could understand with pistol brass, as it has more surface area for the media to go in and out. But for the life of me, I can not get my rifle brass this clean on the inside. Most of the carbon is out of it, but there is still a little layer or carbon left in it.

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Bacarrat:

Yes my brass comes out that clean! What are you using (Soap)and how long are you tumbling? On Super dirty brass the water will overloaded with suspended carbon and will not clean as well. Clean out the tumbler and retumble with fresh water and soap.

Try 1/2oz of Ivory with a 9mm case full of Lemi Shine.

Question is does it chew the rubber drives wheels at all?

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

I have tried as long as 12 hours and mine doesn't come out that clean and I have replaced the water several times too. I am using blue Dawn soap with about a gallon of water. I mean the cases are clean, but I have yet to have one of my rifle cases come out with absolutely no carbon residue inside of it. The only thing I haven't put in is the Lemishine. I guess that is the key.

It is the key! From the Lemi Shine website:

"What is hard water? Water containing dissolved carbonates of calcium and magnesium which inhibit the formation of lather with soap or detergent."

Lemi Shine is for removing the hard water film. What is hard water, dissolved carbonates?

My brass did not get shiny after multiple washings until I finally tried the Lemi Shine. Now, you can see a mirror like sheen inside bottle neck cases!

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

FTB:

When I called the Mfg's of Lemi Shine to ask if it contained any ammonia the representative was extremely helpful. The product will aid in the removal of the carbon from the cases. He did say to make sure that you use very hot water to dissolve the powder and then add the soap. He also said with the addition of Lemi Shine use should reduce the amount of soap you use. Soft water will require less soap to get the job done. I told him I was using a 9mm case full of Lemi shine to one gallon of hot water and a 1/2oz of Ivory soap. He said that 1/2oz was probably just the right amount.

Lemi shine is for sure a great addition to the SS Media.

I have a several 50cal cans full of 45ACP range brass that is all deprimed and cleaned like new! Several of my buddy's have looked at it and they all wanted to know why I have 7 cans full of NEW brass! LOL. They all know different now!

Re: Stainless Steel Media Testimonials

Terry,

What I usually do is get the hot tap water going and then add some Dawn (still need to measure how much) and make sure it gets mixed up well, then add the Lemi Shine and shake it all up really good. Then, I add the brass and let it soak 30 minutes. Then, put in the SS media and into the ice cream maker it goes. After I get a measurement on the Dawn, I thought I would write up a more detailed account of what I do.

I really was shocked to see the reflections of light inside the cases, though. I thought I was seeing light through the flash hole and it was the side of the case!
