I've got the same perspective. Price discovery went out the window long ago, but the market was settling into some sort of basic routine of bad news = higher values (the idea being that a softer job market or slower GDP growth would lead to lower rates). But today's action makes very little sense in the context of either rates (a good jobs report making it more likely that the Fed continues hiking rates). Even the debt ceiling suspension would seem to be bearish, since there's a lot of liquidity that's going to get soaked up when Yellen resumes issuing bonds (and don't forget the absolutely massive amount of debt that will mature in the next couple of years).

Being we are having an opinion poll... I agree 100% that things are not adding up. The buzz phrase today in the market reporting is "The analysist expected _____." (Fill in the blank). The market or an individual stock can only go up or down. 50 / 50 chance of guessing right. So they get paid to guess.

I'll look ahead for the next 6 months to years end.
Inflation will continue.
Disposable income will shift towards necessities (food, fuel, rent, utilities, medical, etc)
Commercial real estate is tanking, as we speak.
The recession we have discussed here for 18 months is taking hold.
Dead stick landing for the markets after Christmas,
January 2024 headlines "This is the Hard Landing" the FED has worked so hard to prevent.
The light at the end of this tunnel is just another train coming.

I don’t get it. A 7-10 year loan shouldn’t have an interest rate much higher than where they are today. They could also use a SWAP if cash flows are an issue. There has to be an underlying issue like high vacancy rate where cash flows have dried up and leasing at lower rate would be unfruitful.

Also, if you can work remotely then the work can be done "very remotely" like India or Brazil or ?? The great COVID debacle also opened up a lot of C suite level eyes that maybe all those office workers were not really needed anyway - what did some of them really accomplish? Companies tend to focus on headcount reduction on blue collar jobs where performance is more easily "measured" (widgets per hour) but office workers were always hard to "measure" - how many spreadhseet pages per hour. My soapbox - AI harvesting white collar also.

Again, depends on your time frame. I hold a few Gold Eagles from back around the 80's - 90's that were bought for $300 to $400 each. But again, a few from current prices. On a long time frame it is best to "Dollar Average / Invest". Basically buy one every year or one every 6 months at the market.
40 years ago an individual stood a chance of "timing the market". Today, that is impossible due to program trading and now the AI coming on scene.
If you have no Eagles then buy one or a few today. Similar to putting your foot in a cold mountain stream. If you can leave it there, good. If you must pull that foot out... that is still good. There is your 'tolerance" for the market. No two people are the same.
I encourage the "lurkers" to chime in on this topic. There will always be one guy who make a killing in the market and retired at 25. Also a guy who lost everything (house, retirement, wife, job,etc) and now lives in the basement of his grandson. Like taking construction bids. Throw out the top bid and the bottom bid and there you will find reality.

You can also save some transaction cost going with either Canadian Maple leaf, or other foreign gold coins. Eagles have a bit more premium than any other and you won't get that all back when you sell. They are still "legal tender"/coins so you "may" get some protection of laws/taxes around that compared to just a bullion 1oz bar which save another 1.5% cost. For example, carrying coins vs bullion may have different limits/rules when crossing borders of some countries.

Paper Silver is not too bad right now.
BUT actual physical silver in official government minted coins is actually near one of the highest premiums over spot in a long time.

Covered calls are a great strategy if you don’t care about short term capital gains. You just have to pick a strike price that you’re content with, then whatever happens you are ahead.
Only problem right now is that volatility is so low the premiums are pretty small. It may be time to buy volatility soon, I’m thinking about some long dated puts on IWM. The market is sure grinding higher for now though.
