Rifle Scopes SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I just got a phone call From SWFA. My 5-20 Illuminated is shipping out today.

First time talking to anyone from there on the phone and they were very helpful.

Mine too. I wanted to moan about how long it had been, but was so excited I ordered a Bobro mount to put it in as well.

Yeah its working but it was impossible to see until night time and I took it outside. There just wasn't enough range in the bathroom that I was testing it in

I'll probably throw this on my ar15 'mono free float upper + ss match barrel' (waiting for the 1x6) tomorrow and take it out

Edit: I'm mostly familiar with tac1x and 1x-4x's - in the deal for the 1x6

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

SWFA: 5-20s are trickling in. Please update on the 1-6s. Seems plenty of time has passed since a potential final article went for outside testing.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Its been about a month since SWFA reported, "We just got samples of the reticle in this week and have finished our testing and have passed them on to Jon Aadland for further evaluation and testing. So now we are waiting on the new reticle vendor to provide us with an ETA."

"We are hoping on large shipments Sept.-Oct."

Given that update, my hope is that I should have a 1-6 scope some time this month, re has been no other updates by SWFA indicating any change.

I wonder if any have started shipping, yet.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

^ well I placed my 1-6 order 40 minutes after 5000 code was released.
I would think I'm close to top of list to get one, if they go with that tier.
No word to me from them....

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I called last week and basically they still have no idea when they will ship. They have not got any in yet. Anytime is what they said but of course they have been saying that for months now so who knows.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

last update was August 29th.
reticle was being sent off for further evaluation.

It would be nice to at least get an update monthly.

Wouldn't it?

Just to know that things are progressing.
Since they promoted selling a scope, then on April 26, 2012 started selling it at a discount. It is surprising that the a reticle issue did not crop up until August.
So now 5 month after offering a special price they have not even been able to give any kind of indication of a time frame.
I would really have thought that for all the advertising I see on this web site (all the time) they would be a communicator to their customer.

I jumped in at 10k, so I know I will be waiting. Got the 5x20 I just assumed I would get to shoot the 1-6 in 2012. That I would have figured was not too much to ask.

Still waiting patiently, just not holding my breath.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I was holding my breath, but I stared to die sooooo...... So my wife was like "what's the matter with you lately, dear?", I had to tell her "baby, I think I've got, um, I think I ehh, OH YEAH me thinks I got's drain bamage".

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Sent a PM to SWFA kindly asking for an update on the 1-6s. The time frame for the reticle problems arising compared to the offer for sale time is both suspicious and bad.

I'm thinking that they simply get a rock bottom, barn burner type of price by being absolutely last in line. Every single client of their manufacturing house get's priority over SWFA.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

So why is everyone returning their scopes? What was wrong with the rma'd scopes?

I sent 2 5x20's back in a row and walked away. Bought an NF 3x15 and so happy with it.

Mine had a misalignment between the windage indicator marks and the detent. Thus the detent always stopped about halfway through two adjacent settings. The replacement unit is much better but still not perfect. It is good enough that confusion as to which number you are at is likely not possible. I suppose that is good enough but I did expect better.

What was wrong with yours?

I have decided on the new US Optics 1-8 coming out this month.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

My new 5-20 has a piece of debris of some sort inside. It is around 10 o'clock when you are looking through the scope and it goes out of the field of view as the power is cranked up as if it was part of the ffp reticle. I'll be reaching out to SWFA for repair / replacement.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Also, did I miss somewhere that SWFA changed the illumination on the 5-20? The one I got yesterday illuminates the entire reticle instead of just the center dot.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I just canceled my order for the 1-6 as I can not wait anylonger

what is the rumored price on the 1-8? I would love one of those!

?!?! Then you must be the first to get that setup.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I just got my 5-20 and the entire reticle is illuminated as well. I'm very happy with it so far eve thought I obviously havent used it on a gun yet. The hardest part was figuring out how to put the battery in and use the settings for brightness.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

How interesting that they changed the reticle illumination. Seems I must have got the older style as only the center of my scope illuminates.

Looks like killer scope. If the dual focal plane works as promised this will be great. However, to be fair, it appears the arrival of this scope has been plagued by significant delay from the time USO promised it. As others have noted here in this discussion, this is the absolute norm...

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'd really like to see more on this possibility of Entire reticle illumination. Any official word ?

Can one of you guys take a pic ? Only reason I chose not to go Illuminated is I dont like the "dot" .

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Looks like bleed. Poor quality/workmanship. If the whole reticle was lit, it would be as bright as your dot in the center.

Then again, this may be how they intended. I have not looked through a illuminated 5-20.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I'll have to look it more closely when I get some more time, and compare it side by side to my Nightforce. The center dot does look more bright, but I was having a hard getting it in focus with my phone.

I just had a chance to look at it quickly with some natural light and it is just the center dot that is lit. Sorry for the confusion from my previous post.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Since it is not intended for a night vision device, when you are looking only in darkness, you will likely get bleed/reflection. But with any light the only thing you should see is the dot.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

That's reticle bleed... mine does that at the higher powers... which i'd never use. In low light the illumination is set much lower and I get little blooming.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

My entire reticle on my original 5-20 was illuminated and the entire reticle on this warranty replacement is as well.

SWFA have discussed the relatively dim illumination in prior posts/threads. It is somewhat by intent. The purpose of this illumination is for having a visible/usable reticle in dim or dark shooting, NOT for making the scope function as a daylight bright red dot. If the illumination was cranked much higher there would be way too much distracting bleed (there already is a bit of bleed on max brightness in very dark conditions). However, under dim or dark conditions the reticle is plenty bright enough for its intended purpose.

If you want anything close to a daylight bright reticle I would question your use of this particular scope in the first place - it's very obviously a long range scope, not a run-and-gun type red dot. Thus if for some reason you believe you must have a daylight bright reticle I would steer you strongly away from the 5-20.

Of course the brightness of the 1-6 will be very different and although not as bright as an Aimpoint, I think it will be plenty sufficient even in bright day time conditions.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I called the other day and asked about the 5-20 Illuminated I have on order and they said they had no delivery date on the next batch of scopes. Doesn't sound like it will be anytime soon.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

<span style="font-weight: bold">Come on SWFA, time for another small update</span> on both 5-20s and 1-6s. You should really check and respond to your pm's here. You can probably set your account to send you an email when you get pms or when folks reply to threads you have subscribed to.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

I ordered a 5-20 on Sept 23. It's not the one with the illuminated reticle. Knowing what had been going on with SWFA, I emailed them to get more information about a turn time. The person I have been dealing with in customer service is VERY friendly and helpful. I know she can't give me exact dates on anything, but she was nice enough to tell me where I am in line for the scope. I started off as number 76 in line for the 5-20 with no illumination. As of Oct 5 I was number 30 in line. She told me they just had a shipment come in. Based on everything else I've read in different places, it sounds like my scope will be in one of the next 2 deliveries. Seems to be moving relatively quick.

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

^Interesting. Not only did they line up a reasonable large group, perhaps 100 or hundreds to commit in advance, they can't even get scopes delivered by their supplier in batches more than 50 scopes. Even beyond the first shipment there are no firm schedules that anyone will commit to (5-20). It's probably the 3rd shift making these particular scopes on break time...

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

If we ordered the bundle deal of the 1-6x and 5-20x for the sale price and we cancel the 1-6x portion, do we end up paying full price for the 5-20x??

Re: SWFA-SS Tax Day Group Buy: 1-6, 5-20, and more!

Just finished testing out my replacement SWFA 5-20x... the first one i got def had focusing issues. Happy to say, this one they sent me is primo!

I compared it back and forth with my Nightforce F1 and at 15 power... I had a difficult time discerning much of a difference looking at text at a 100 yards. The range I went today was limited but I will test it with longer distances in the near future alongside a Premier Heritage 3-15 as well.

The SWFA scope really is pretty awesome for what you pay. I'm thoroughly impressed.

Ok so if I'm understanding you correctly, you ordered a 5-20 last month? SWFA is telling you that they only have essentially 30 more back orders to fill to catch up to the 23rd of sept? I placed my order on June 20th, and a friend of mine placed one on June 21st. No scopes received. Were there just not as many orders as I thought ? Or have people actually been receiving 5-20 Non-Illuminated scopes ?? I remember early on before the dry spell seeing that a couple guys had received non-illuminateds but nothing recently.

If anyone has received a Non-illuminated scope recently, can they post the order date please ?

Thanks

yes. i asked them that and they confirmed it. i have already received (and sold) my 5-20. they billed me full price. essentially we bought a full price 5-20 and then a deeply discounted 1-6. they will not split the cost between the two.

Makes me think they knew for sure the 1-6x was going to be a long wait, and setup the deal in a way that if people jumped ship on the commitment for the 1-6x they still sold a 5-20x for full price.

Hmm, i can't imagine anyone jumping ship when they only have $286 left to pay for a $1,000 scope?
