that is a really great and obvious point. were did we get stuff in 30s,40s,50s,60s,70s? just thinking about lg quantity raw materials rubber was the only one in decades past,prob others. but the point is we really were able to do most things we needed here. foreign trade was done for all kinds of things but we didn't suffer these huge trade imbalances that hurt the economy over all. we went from dead in the water to producing the biggest military in history in the 40s without buying everything from China. the original source of gov $ was tariffs. so,using them isn't gonna destroy the economy. gov income doesn't need to be what it is. the waste by gov is where most of our $s go.

The vast amount of lead mining in the US is done in Idaho. The problem is that most of those mines are not running anywhere near at full production. They can supply a shitton of lead, antimony, and silver if needed.
There is no tariff great enough to get American shooters to stop buying holosun.
We don't use mined lead for ammo. At least not directly. Approximately 99.9% of bullet lead is from recycled materials.
Chasing down mines and and all that is honestly irrelevant to anything regarding ammunition.
I assure you this is only a half truth....at best. Pretty sure hard cast lead bullets existed before we outsourced. And besides that, I'm not sure lead core jacketed bullets require harder lead... might be more optimal to mix on different percentages of other metals like antimony to control the expansion if it's desired in the first place but I'm fairly sure FMJ and OTM bullets don't require it. Correct me if I'm wrong... besides that, I'm all for making trade with our allies rather than commies that hate us.
The last lead refinery that took ore to ingots was killed off by the EPA a few years ago. Pretty dumb thing to do IMO EPA....

However, the lower the risk the less the reward. We already financially support Canada, if 25%+25% tariff are implemented, Canada will suffer way more than us, and it will only be a matter of time before they take an off ramp. Texas probably has more GDP than Canada.
My guess is so we can have access to resources and a trade on the cheap.
Maybe even a complete annexing. Either way, it’s not out fault. Canada politics chose to be an American welfare. That’s between them and their politicians.

cost of ammo over last 5 or so years has noticeably impinged on my shooting volume. i suspect that even on here,where high income is somewhat common,i am not alone. i expect that to get worse. i would think that gun sales of less common calibers is gonna get affected as well. less common calibers really gonna be bad. saw some 300 sav in LGS @ $40/box for win white box that had some age on it. hand loading seems to be going the same way. know several guys that hunt but maybe shoot 50r/yr otherwise so they aren't as likely to be affected IMHO as those who shoot weekly+ and a lot.

Canada is likely in the process of finding out how reliant they are on the US, and how they basically have no position to negotiate from.
They already enjoy a huge trade surplus with us on goods, but we have critical services balance in our favor. I suspect most of that is petroleum refinement. Canadian oil wouldn’t be exportable without US refineries.

Canadian Green/Pinko politicians working on-behalf of Russia have knee-capped themselves by restricting more development of refineries, so they rely on the US to get their product to market, like most oil producers.
Imagine these same weak politicians now left trying to deal with an aggressive US Presidency who merely demands more fair play.
They literally don’t have a leg to stand on.
Canada is heavily invested in manufacturing subcomponents for critical systems as well, which could be shifted to the UK, Japan, Norway, Switzerland, Finland, etc. since these components are already being manufactured in multiple countries.
It isn’t just the energy sector that is at risk here for Canada. They have to play ball and we get to dictate the terms to them, with no real negotiation needed.
It’s simply a matter of, “Here are the reasonable terms, sign here."

Japan was in a similar situation in Trump’s first term. The US negotiators simply sat while the Japanese politely asked for their humble requests, then stuck to the Trump terms and the Japanese were happy to sign before any other nations did.
