WTF! My brother in law said his co-worker, that makes 11 bucks an hour is getting back over $7K in tax refund. He is 36, has 8 children, and can claim 3 for EIC. Still, this doesn't calculate unless someone is allowing him to deduct the $20/week per child in support...if he pays that much.

So...what the fuck gives. My wife and I, with one child and a home, claim zero throughout the year, take every deduction I can squeeze out with an AGI of $99K, can't catch a fucking break.

I'm so tired of giving my money away to those that "buy" their sisters 4th/5th/6th kids' ssn's for their claim. I'm so tired of giving up 10-12K per year to fund a broken social system that rewards only those that seek to achieve nothing, other than keeping their "benefits".

Rant over. Sorry, I feel like kicking the shit out of a bum.

This year, I claim EXEMPT.

at least the guy has a job there are people here who dont work all year go into hr block and walk out with 10000 dollar plus checks. Buddy of mine made a shit ton last year cashing checks and charging them 15%

Actually, taxation has always been dubbed this by economists. It posses me off to the point I am not donating shit, or contributing shit to anyone or anything this year. I could use a fat refund to put in my sons college fund. Guess I'm doing it for some one elses instead.

is something that is ok for a certain amount of time.
But, I feel the same the way you feel. It would be nice
to have a nice Tax check. Hell, I mite be able to fly my
kids here from TX for my summer visit and see them every
year instead every 2 yrs. But it is what it is.

i know how you feel dude! i got my return check 2 years ago and they refunded me .5 cents!!

my neighbors son who worked at McDonalds over the summer filed and got a 350$ refund!!!

this year I am hoping to get a nicer return lol

Exempt but will take my own tax out, use it for IRA contributions and some in interest bearing account. Better than letting government have a free loan every pay check.

Thinking about really stretching deductions this year.

I feel the pain. We have no kids and seem to pay in lots each year. My sister works part time, has two foster kids, her husband hasn't worked more then 14 days in the last two years but yet they could buy a one year old suburban with cash. Sometimes I wonder what I'm doing wrong, but at least I know I'm not cheating.

Hes single pays in a shit ton and gets nothing back figured it is the only way he can get some of it back. Really did not make that much as he had to pay taxes on all the money he did make from cashing checks just to start the cycle all over agin.

What?!? Claiming 'exempt' only allows you to hold onto your money until April 15th instead of letting Uncle Sam hold onto it. Either way you end paying the same amount.

That's a meaningless comparison. A refund simply means that you overpaid over the course of the tax year it's not that you got less or that kid got more, it's just that you were right on the mark and he wasn't.

Being able to buy a new car with cash doesn't mean that they have more/earn more money than you.

P.S. doing your taxes and getting money from the gov't isn't cheating.

yep happens alot around here, got some friends that work @ the local car dealership and bank you should hear the refunds some people get (10-15K) that have NEVER had a FULL time job, makes you pissed as hell!!!

Crazy. The top tenth of a percent of workers pay 20% of taxes collected, while the bottom 50% pay no taxes at all (and still complain they don't get enough from the government).

Since I spent the first few months of '09 in Iraq again I got a pretty decent refund last year. This year I was in central and south America as well as Haiti for a little bit. Although I collected imminent danger pay, I wasn't exempt from paying taxes on it. The result: I made roughly $13,000 more this year than last, and on my taxes and it ended with my refund being half of the previous year's refund.

I was told I should have stayed under the $40K mark for EIC. Guess I'll be raising my hand once again for the next go-round.

Just so you guys know (if you don't already) kids are going to be worth less next year by half as well ($500 vice $1K per). That will probably get some of the breeders up in arms as well. If it weren't for my two kids I wouldn't have had much of a refund either.

i'm hearin ya. we are only getting 1,400.00.

although i can claim both my mortgage intrest and stuff, it still doesn't go over the standard deduction. me, wife, 1 kid.

i thought one of the changes in the last presidential election was to the tax code so that folks that are in the same boat get some credit for the interest they pay for a mortgage.

It is an end-run welfare program!! I have employees that refuse to work more than 25 hrs a week, earn 12-15k annually and receive an 8k refund! Wait, refund? How can it be a refund if a person paid in $800 to the fed, yet receives a "refund" of 8k? Shouldn't it be called something else?

Re-distribution of wealth. Try this out. I used to work for the State of Texas, implementing the TANF/FoodStamp programs. We have a thing called CHIPS (Child Health Program), aka, free health care for indigent children. Well, on the brochure, its states, "We do not report immigration/nationalization status to the INS/ICE", etc.. In other words, it's okay to be here illegally, and suck off the teet of the working American. I can go on and on, as it exists with all Welfare programs.

I can go on about how my "clients" would brag about borrowing their sisters 4th 5th 6th etc.., childrens' SSN's so they could claim them on their taxes for an EIC reward. Now, what happens when they don't claim them on the following or the 3rd year? Any red flags with the IRS? Hell no, of course not.

Along the lines with the other posts. Me, wife and one child may or may not get a refund (haven't last 4 years) but will pay 20k-ish state and fed taxes. Wife has a looser friend (friends for 20+ years or they would never talk) who doesn't do SHIT, she and her husband are getting 9k back. They have been bankrupt once and getting close to a second. Bank took their car and auctioned it off, they still own 4k on it (bank auctioned it and they are responsible for the difference which is 4k). They have bills out the ass, house is a shit hole (only about 7 years old). And you know what they are doing with the refund, yep you guessed it takeing the 3 kids to Disney Land. OOOOOHHHH did I mention this will be the 12th Disney trip in 7 years.

Yep, my point. My house will be paid of in 12 or less years (I am 39). They just don't care. My wifes' friend has never worked a day in her married life. They day before she got married she quit her minimum wage job (15ish years ago) and said she would never ever work again. If they can't make it on his lowly job then tough shit. Even during the first bankruptcy she totally refused to go get a job. I understand needing to take care of the kids but she could have done a night job or a job while they where in school. everyone told her this, SOOOOOOOO you know what she did. Yep you guessed it pulled the kids out of school and now home schools them so she can't get a job. Never mind that she is all but a high school drop out. I ask her all the time how in the hell is she going to teach them algebra, geometry, etc. She has 3 kids now and would like a 4th. Just so you know I am sure they will want to be on the gravy train with mom and dad when the time comes.

None of this is made up.

I believer it man, I used to see it everyday at work. That's why I quit that shit and moved on. I really feel sorry for those kids, unless, she is going through a private home school curriculum. If not, then the ISD she is in is simply getting to count her children as "success", get reimbursed by the FEDS, and not have to worry about them.

What's good is that, the EIC max is 3, so her 4th won't generate any more of a refund. However, it will provided more in Foodstamps/SNAP assistance and increase the rolls of Medicaid. Which, is the cancer of our economy.

The goal is to not get a refund. Don't let the vultures have your money to earn interest on. You should be getting that interest money (or buying ammo).

We need a flat consumption based tax system with no end of the year vote buying kickbacks.

Check your numbers. The top 0.1% pays 18.5% of all the taxes. The top 1% pays 38% of the taxes

As an active duty E-5, I paid in about 4500 bucks, but got 8600 out... Now, I don't think that's right, but I'm not about to write a check to the IRS on moral grounds.. I guess when I get out of the Army and start earning real money I'll start feeling your pain. Till then January is toy time for daddy!

I finally got officially divorced last year and couldn't wait to file as a single man again. So with a smile on my face I checked that box...
Mind you, my ex was an educated woman and making a little over half what I make per year. Our divorce agreement was that she walk with some money in her pocket and her student loan debt. Meanwhile I get both our houses, which means both our mortgages...
so here I am with practically the same financial obligations I had when I was married but with about 1/3 less income. Yet when I went from filing married to filing single my tax withheld practically doubled!!!
All I gotta say about that is FUCK YOU UNCLE SAM!

There is a lot about the tax system that bothers me... but lately I've been dwelling on one thing- the tax credit for kids. WHY?

-Isn't it your choice to have kids? Why get a credit for it then?
-Do we really need to encourage population growth?
-I get it, they aren't cheap to have... but I LOVE my rifles and they are expensive; I have them in lieu of kids. Where's my credit?

Giving a credit for having children just does not make one bit of sense to me- it's a personal choice and shouldn't change the amount you have to pay in. Especially considering a good number of those kids are being cared for on the tax payer's dime. So I pay for your kids while you pay nothing BECAUSE of your kids. How the hell does that make sense?
