The "New" Barrett MRAD Thread!!!!!!

New addition to the family.....

MRAD in 6.5 CR. Kahles 6x24 on a Spuhr mount. Only complaint is I wish I had found one in FDE, but basic black works just fine. Gonna take it out for a spin tomorrow.

I have an MRAD with EJ prefix. Does that mean it has a large breech and I need a large breech to small breech conversion kit on these barrels currently on sale in the Barrett site? Also, these “new” barrels aren’t listed on their 2022 price list catalog. Are these older barrels?

*** Edited*** From my contact at barret... he says these barrels don't have the updated bolt head that the ej's have. The newer bolts have a shelf cut in them due to the bolt pin being captive. Early model aj's were larger breech. AJ001200 and below will need the L to S breech conversion. AJ models with a small breech are compatible, CJ are compatible, Early AJ and EJ will need the conversion.

Anyone else seen that Timney released a trigger? Wonder how it is compared to the factory, kinda wish Trigger Tech would follow suit.

I don't see much value in it over the factory trigger - looks like the same adjustments the factory trigger has. Depending on what you're trying to do, you can clean up the factory trigger pretty nicely with a little effort. Now if they allowed for the 1st stage to be removed (without just removing the spring and letting it flop around) - that would be of value. In theory you could do that to the factory trigger, but it would require a bit more work.

Anyone running weights on their MRAD? I started thinking about it, but all the weights I find are large rectangle designs that are going to look silly and ruin the profile.
My MRAD with custom barrel, atlas super cal, Schmidt and Bender 5-45 and TBAC 338 can weighed in at 21.7lbs it didn't need anymore weight.

I've had a prototype model for a while now and it is a very nice upgrade.

I've got the MDT MLOK weights on mine. Works just fine and doesn't look too bad.

After waiting almost a year (some 90 days!!!) for my Barrett suppressor, finally got around to casing the whole thing. As most cases are way too small for the gun and the bipod I have fitted, I used a surplus Stinger case... bought several from Sportsmans Guide a few years! Good deal!

Fits up very nicely! And rugged as hell, but not very stealthy. So 'Boomer' is secure and ready for a Feb Road trip to Oklahoma. Among others.

Cleaning the 'foam' out of the stinger case SUCKED by the way. Talk about some over-built gummint glued-in-hard-as-a-rock foam. I used mattress memory foam. Worked great! But would not cut well with the electric carving knife, so used a sharp filet/butcher knife and it cut beautifully!

FItted the first layer in three pieces. Then the top layer was done with a single piece, as was the lid.

It's well-protected and the scope and grip (high and low points) are padded well-away from the aluminum case.

Spotting scope, SH knife, 30 rounds of ammo incl. 2 mags... and suppressor fit very nicely in the Stinger case. One leg is making contact with the aluminum and I plan on gluing a piece of felt in to keep the bipod from scuffing.

Yes, this is the "boomer'd" MRAD because I love the wood PSG-1 grip and adapted one designed for an AR. It's a sweet grip! Much nicer than the original. And, yes, I boomer'd an MRAD. Shut up slackers.

Happy New Year!!! Another 2022 project finished just in the nick of time for 2023 to arrive.

And congrats to all my fellow new MRAD owners! It is an awesome platform!

I have an FDE MRAD in 300 Norma on the way as well as a NF 7-35 Mil-XT. Will add more calibers most likely - perhaps proof, we shall see.

I am looking at connecting the scope and rifle together with an M-Brace 1.5” high 20 moa - looking for suggestions on the mounting system if you MRAD dudes have a better idea.

thanks

Tell us more about that bench top. Looks slick
Yeah local range put them on almost all of the 100yrd benches, and raised them up about 3-4 inches but they are slippery. I personally don't like them but this is one of the few that has a working camera so I deal with it. I thnk it was supposed to be like bed lining but obviously didn't come out that way.

I'm running the Spuhr 20 MOA on my MRAD with my NF 7-35 ATACR. However, the clamp piece cracked which was a little unsettling. Mile high sent me a replacement but have lost a little confidence in that mount. Everything was torqued to exact specs with a fix-it-stick driver so I wouldn't expect to crack after 150 rounds of use.

The military went with the Nightforce mount for the MRAD so I just ordered one with the raptor shelf for my 41XC build. It will be a dedicated rifle with Defiance Rebel action and Bartlein ModBB 34" barrel(no taper) on a Cadex chassis.

Yikes yeah I would expect more out of that name brand. I've heard of a few others cracking too. I have probably 600-1k between 6.5CM and 300PRC on my M-Brace and the only issue I've had is one of the pins started poking out. Pushed it back flush and it's fine.

So I actually ended up ordering a 30 moa m-brace. the scope came in today and the rifle should roll in Monday. I played with the ATACR today and I have 35 mils total. Hopefully I will have enough to have a 100 yd zero with the 10 mil rail and 30 moa mount

after reading this perhaps I should send the m-brace back and stick with a 20 moa NF

My Razor has 36 Miles of adjustment you should be fine. I'm also zeroed at 100 yards

So here is a question I've never been able to find an answer to: How does the FN Ballista's bolt compare to that of the Barrett MRAD (for 338)?

I remember seeing a Shotshow youtube clip where Barrett himself was discussing and taking apart a 338 MRAD, and he mentioned specifically that the bolt was designed from the ground up to handle 338 LM (as opposed to some other setup's, which started with a 308 or 300 WM action and then retuned it for 338). Now, I'm not sure if he was referring any specific competitor (like FN's ballista) or it was just a marketing gimmick, but it did spark my interest in learning how the FN and Barrett platforms compare to one another.

I admit up front, that i have preference for all things FN, but Barrett's reputation as a company and the MRAD specifically has gotten my attention (especially since it seems to sell for a price slightly below the Ballista).
Ok I know this is going to make the crybaby’s cry but I have both the mk22 and the ballista and planning to do a video on YouTube conparing them but I think the ballista has some stupid design features and in my opinion the Barrett is the winner in every aspect.. MK22 308/300nm/338nm and soon 300prc my ballista is 308/338LM y’all let me know if the video would be of interest

I want to see all content related to the MK22. It is on my very short list of new rifles I want in my safe.
