Barrett will not do cerakate jobs on your MRAD. I called and asked over the summer and they said no.

That's what they told me too, but @Riverlife87 said they re-cerakoted his in E-190.

Maybe he found the right person at Barrett or something.

Yeah - he got lucky is all hah.

I literally called and talked to 3 different employees on different occasions and all of them said no to cerakoting.

That being said, they were very helpful with any questions I or my gunsmith/cerakoter had in terms of how to disassemble and reassemble everything.

And it was already mentioned, but the commercial MRAD is identical to the Mk22 sans the markings and different factory cerakote. And the different barrel lengths. But that's it. It's the same gun.

Commercial factory cerakote is H or E-265.
Mk22 is E-190.

The guy at Barrett actually laughed when I asked what the difference was between the Mk22 and the commercial version. He laughed and said, "dude - it's just a different color - paint that shit E-190 and you're 95% there."

I can live without the Mk22 markings on the side. That saves you $5000.

By the way, I'm not knocking guys who own legit Mk22s, those are awesome collector's pieces.

EuroOptic is a great company. Bought my ASA Remington M24, 300NM barreled MK22 and a lot of other stuff from them over the years.

Sure is the CF version. It is indeed a THICK boy. I'm not quite sure what the profile is but it's actually pretty darned light given its size. It's the 24 inch variant.

I am also interested in POI shift. My MRAD is currently only shot prone with bipod, but looking into adding a 6.5 Creed barrel for use in local PRS matches. The MRAD will never be optimal for PRS, but if there is POI shift when going from bipod to a bag on a barricade or tripod, its no point.

Years ago when I first got into LR, I was told to load the bipod. I broke two Harris before I realize maybe I need to calm down with loading it. A few years later I went to a course and they didn’t teach loading. I asked why. They said that loading didn’t not translate well for going between prone and other positional stuff. Back then they knew there was POI shifts. They also claimed there wasn’t consistency between the different positions. I never tested it to see if what they said held any weight. I tried their way and then eventually switched to skis feet for all my prone stuff anyways. If they were loading the bipod like I used too when I first started, then I have no doubt they seen POI shifts.

The shift isn't from loading the bipod, as I understand the complaint, its from a ∆ in downward force simply from changing the location of the forward rest or a GC or anything else. For example say a bipod starts being used near End of the forearm vs the Middle of the forearm...voila zero shift.

The problem with PRS context... is the shooting bag.

Not only is it necessary for PRS, but It is pretty much always best to locate the bipod at the end of the forearm, and the GC near the middle of the riflfe, in front of the magwell (on the Centre of Gravity).

If that's true, as you swap positions eg between prone or modified prone and positional shots using a GC, you would have an honest to god zero shift in the middle of stages, ie a mechanical zero 'shift' or anomaly.

The proposed explanation was (possibly?) something to do with the forearm's mechanical qualities. As in guys were complaining about this withs semi-auto ARs and then saying the MRAD did the same thing (or whatever).

I have no idea if this is true, but that's the theory of the case If I understand it correctly. I'd also be glad to be corrected if its mistaken...

That’s interesting and annoying. If the shift does exist, then taking a bench rest and shooting with it at different forend lengths would expose it.

For the 308 barrel in the Mk22 I see a consistent .3 mil. I haven’t tested the 300NM but the 338NM barrel w/ Mk22 suppressor was .4 mil consistently. I have only fired a few rounds from civilian variant MRAD’s and typically saw the same .2-.3 mil shifts. Regardless of reseating the barrel and torque of the screws.

The longer and heavier the barrel the more shift I have seen, as with AR’s. MRAD’s aren’t typically fired from barricades but it was interesting to see. LMT AR’s have the same phenomenon even thought they are monolithic.

If you check the AR thread, they talk about loading the bipod also causing POI shifts

I believe that would be A419. I run a Sawtooth and like it quite a bit like all my Sawtooth products.

Thanks for the post. I’ve seen your data mostly relates to ARs but I’ve noticed a POI shift in my AT-X. I am curious what you’ve seen in other chassis guns? I assume the most immune platform would be a classic bedded bolt action receiver in a fiberglass stock but am curious what your experience has been.

I’ve seen POI shift changes just from using a different rear bag in the prone position. I’ve seen different POI shifts with ELR rifles just from different shoulder pressures in the buttstock.

Finding the causal mechanism is going to be a nightmare for anyone who thinks they can find it.

Barrett has been cerakoting MRAD's E-190 for at least the last year. I've sent at least 4-5 people that route and have had them painted. I'm not sure who you spoke to but if you straight up ask, "Can I get my MRAD cerakoted?" They will do: Black, Grey, FDE, OD Green, and E-190. My rifle was painted OD Green. I had them paint my AML Black as well. It was 300.00 (plus 100.00 shipping round trip. They provide the label). The AML was 70.00 to paint black. They are looking to add OD Green back to the price list next year according to them. Their depot cleans the rifle up, inspects the bore, etc. They do a great job. Just throwing that out there.

Placement was at each ends of forend using arca. And if repeatable one could miss a .6mil/2moa~ target or barely clip it with that much POI shift.

That's actually how I noticed the issue with MRADs a few years ago but shooting .4/.5mil steel at 500-700m from various positions with the Mk22.

Currently the only issues I've seen in bolt are from Mk22/MRAD and AT-X. The AT-X also had issues with zero retention until bedded. Once needed it seemed to eliminate the POI shift however I don't have enough time on one to really say.

Technically neither as they’re not part of the mk22 kit, they’re just bolt-on parts purchased either by the individual or the unit. I would say there more 419 rails than Sawtooth but I’ve seen both in use.

I’ll start developing a 168 grain SMK in Lake City brass for 600 and under using N140. Then a 169 grain in Lapua with N140 for 1k yards.
Then I’m hoping I can develop a good load for the 338 Lapua with 285 Hornady ELDM in Lapua brass using Retumbo. I’m hoping I can simply right down adjustments to zero between the 308 barrel and 338 Lapua. Does it make a difference if the main (zero stop) zero is based on 308 or 338?
I’ll be using Redding Type S FL bushing dies for 308. I have a full length sizing die (no bushing) for 338 and a Redding Type S bushing neck sizing die. I’m using Forster micrometer seating dies for both.

To keep the end caps easily identified I’m using the 30 cal “flashcap” and the 9mm cap for 338 Lapua is a typical flat end cap. I was VERY happy with the suppression on 308.

These MRADs are hammers. One of the few rifles I trust to go through airline travel or other roughly handled transport and trust to still be holding zero at a match.

Lord knows I couldn’t count on my issue M24 and later the M2010 to do that with the same level of confidence.

Got a new MRAD and was looking it over before mounting a scope.

I found it neat how the surface finish is smooth enough that even with the black cerakote, it's reflective. You can see the white edge of the door reflected on the top rail. Being able to do that with a (somewhat) mass produced gun is cool.

I am using the SiCo Hybrid 46M on mine as well. I have 300 NM and 6.5 CM barrels. Also just got the NF ATACR 7-35 T3 in DE and Spuhr mount. Can’t wait to take it out to the range.

Finally found the post where someone mentioned the 7-35 ATACR. How do you like it? I’m considering purchasing one, but I’m not sure if I want to put it on my M82 or replace the ATACR 5-25 on my MRAD and put the 5-25 ATACR on the MRAD… it seems like more magnification on the accurate rifle makes more sense.

Not sure if this helps anyone make a dumb decision, but this was my napkin math a year or two ago. I went with a Mk22 single-barrel kit. Shook out to basically a $1,500 clone correct engraving on a $11,000 kit at the time, if you ignore the mil-spec details on the included scope and mount. Not sure what things look like today, but I haven't seen an MRAD under $6500 for a hot minute.

The only other things that come to mind are the Barrett M107, the limited run of Colt M203s, maybe the Remington Defense (ASA prefixed) M24s, and then some handguns? The Colt M4A1 collector rifle deserves a special nod in this respect, and FN and Sig has commercial products that are close, too. But exact?

This probably doesn't resonate far and wide, and the Mk22 may even have its own nuances, but I think it's pretty dang awesome that Barrett wins the contracts and makes those NSNs available to us plebs, too.

Available to Americans yes…but not where I live unfortunately I must go with the MRAD in FDE instead. Coming up next week and the total cost would be around $17,000 with all accessories couldn’t even get the P-VPS took me another month to finally find an ATACR with t3. I was born in the wrong country that’s for sure, I only buy American gear and can’t even do clones proper…
