As always, thanks Tom. My two boys had a "blast." Oldest got great data for his 223 out to 700, and the youngest gathered more data for Beth's 308 out to 1000.
It is great to see a range owner that is so active and willing to encourage youth.

It was a great pleasure to see everyone having such a good time this weekend.
Our NB shoot got cut a little short due to a serious down pour and I'm sorry the shooters couldn't proceed further through our course.
Our Fathers Day shoot was very nice. I enjoyed having everyone and especially the little guys who got to shoot and see some pretty serious hardware for the first time. I think they will remember it forever. I know I would.
It's great when you can take a 7 year kid and explain safety and gun handling and he actually understands it...then hits targets out to 400 yards on the first shot.
I enjoy helping folks but kids hold a special place in my heart and soul when it comes to teaching them how to shoot. I try to get on their level and make them feel comfortable yet keep a serious side there for safety and discipline when handling firearms.
Kids want to be taught and enjoy learning about shooting. We owe it to them to take the time and teach them. If any ONE of us can inspire or give a child something to look up to or pursue interest in our shooting sports you are hero in my book and theirs.
I'm looking forward to seeing the little guys again.
I hope TVP gave your kids something to talk about for a few days and left a positive impression on them as well as others.
Don't wait till next Fathers Day to bring them back out...they are always welcome anytime.
Our next get together will be a family one, especially for our wifes and better halfs so they can see where and why their husbands vanish every weekend to TVP. Should be a great time I'm sure!

TVP shooters,

We have a double short course on Saturday and a Head Hunter qualification on Sunday.
Short course gives the chance to get good dope on AR's and varmint rigs as well as mid range tactical rifles.
The HH on Sunday is a 20 target precision course of fire requiring only 20 rounds of ammo. We can take up to 20 shooters.
We have HH shirts and the NEW "Cleaner" shirt for those who earn the title.
We will be taking pre-registration for the next HH day and night shoot. We will announce the date for this shoot shortly.

It is a 20 target course of fire. You have ONLY one shot at each target.
There are four positions and five targets at each position.
This is a precision course of fire and shooters will find out just how tough it is to actually hit a head size target on a bad guy..shot for shot. It is a combination of fire teams and snipers and some have "taken" cover due to your fire. You will have 5 minutes per station to engage ALL 5 targets.
Some shots you will see the impact if you miss and some you surely wont. Don't loose your cool or you will not do well.
This is a SKILL game at its finest and only those who can hit all 20 targets shot for shot will earn the elite title of the "Head Hunter". You will be firing from a conceiled position and you will have to work a little to get the shot off accurately.

Well here is what was posted after the very first one I think they will run it again since its new!!! I am going to try and make it to this next one!!!


START=


1st shot Cold Bore Starter, for score was a 600 yard cold bore shot at a clay pigeon. 1 shot, No video sorry.

Stage#1 Headshots only were taken was out of a brushy tree filled hillside proned out looking at 6 Steel Head Targets set from, 342 yards out to 922 yards. Sorry no video taken.

Stage # 2 Unknown Distances,& Patrol Contact in the Valley. Shooters Pick a Battle Zero and engage all 6 Steel targets with only hold overs/unders in a very limited time! Here Big Dog Steel's Ryan Brandt is gettin it done in short order!

Stage # 3 Silent shot at Tower Guard and Machine Gun Bunker assault, Timed event with 8 Steel Targets. Steve and Eric, must low crawl to a.22 then take out the guard tower with a subsonic headshot, then the team engages Steel from 100 to 1,000 yards. Stage#4 Shoot and Move stage that began with Shooters seated with a down hill 100 yard shot at a tiny target, then shooters got up & moved quickly to a new position then located and engaged 3 more steel targets set from 200 to 540 yards! Sorry didnt get any video.

Stage # 6 Sniper/Counter Sniper. After traversing a small obstacle shooters had to locate then engage 4 Steel Targets that were spread from 925, 920, 358, & 475 Yards. Here team Turbo54 & Psmith get a solid hit at 920 yards, but then struggles a bit to find the shorter targets, then time runs out.

I think that the guys at TVP are going to change it up a little bit on the next sniper challenge. I'm pretty sure that some of the stages will be the same though. This shoot was one of the funnest shoots I have been to and i am really looking forward to the next one. If you have time to shoot it, you will not be disappointed.

For me personally I don't look at it that way.
For me its knowing I can/can't lay out on a hill, in the dark, looking one or two hills away at the head of someone that mistakenly turned on their flashlight. Feeling the wind on my face and taking an educated guess, squeezing the trigger and seeing the targets head whip back.
Know how to use your equipment in the dark and what changes need to be made, its a training event more than anything.
So for me its knowing if ever put in this position I can do whats needs to be done and at what range.

Plus someone has to take care of the suppressors, and light up the target.

I'll tell you that it is well worth every penny. Its an experience that most people dont get to do in their entire life time.
The Head Hunter course alone is an amazing COF, even though you only shoot 20 times, its great time and a great shoot, and the night shoot is even better and it tests your abilities even more then during the day.

P.S. if you become a member its even cheaper.

I think the suppressor rental is a great idea. When you think about it a lot of guys only shoot a few matches per year and when you figure out the cost of rental it's going to take several years of renting to actually make up the cost of a top-shelf can. TVP is a business and if Tom doesn't make money it goes away. Where else can you rent a can for a day of precision rifle shooting?

Training goes on at Thunder Valley almost every weekend its up to you to come out. People come out and shoot all the time very few "train" its up to you what you get out of your time at the range.

Its all in good fun.

TVP is a great place to shoot and hone your shooting skills as well as get really familiar with your equipment. Heck, we all make mistakes and its easy enough to turn the wrong direction on your windage when making a correction. That is why its important to get out and shoot. I would be there more but I would have angry customers there with out rifles while I'm shooting mine!!!

I like the Intimidator the best as I feel you can get the best training there. You get multiple shots to gather and verify data as well as work on your spotting skills. Pulling the trigger is the easy part, calling the wind and gathering field data is the hard part.

We have a RSO for Saturday 8-4 and Sunday 8:30-?
At 9:30 am a vote will be taken to shoot which ever COF the group decides on.
We planned on being closed but some shooters asked and the range will be looked over by two very well qualified RSO's.

Sorry for being out of the loop, Mother came up with a medical issue, and I have been tied up for about the last 2 months. Good news all is well now, and I should be able to get back in the mix soon.

Looks like I missed a lot of good shooting as usual, can't wait to get back and give the Head Hunter another shot.

Best of Luck to Tom, Wade, Mike, and any other TVP Shooters heading to the Mammoth Sniper Challenge this weekend. Wish I could make it down, but I have to do my Tactical Medic recert this weekend, just my stinking luck. If you guys need anything, just give me a yell and you can grab it on your way through Louisville if you head this way.
