Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

Tom,
Just went and switched presses with Bro.
Gonna be kinda hard to work, as Smilin Bob has nothing on me right now! (They call me tripod!)

As we get closer to the shoot, I will try to refresh basic safety rules.

#1 All bolts out until in position and on first target.
This means please have them out when you get there.

Spotter/scorekeeper calls shooters ready.
Bolts removed imediatly after firing, before getting up.
It is up to us to ensure this continues to be a safe sport.
If anyone has questions about safety, just ask.

Anyone can holler Cease Fire, if they see something.

Safety is first, fun is second.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

If someone has pictures from each position overlooking all the targets send them to me. Ill photoshop them with target #'s and distances and print them out on 15x22 photo paper and get them laminated for each station. I cant afford to sponsor a target, so this can be my contribution to the range this year. I can even make stands for each of them if I have time before the 3rd.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

I personally like the course just the way it is.Maybe put some bigger targets beside the regular targets, that will be worth less points. That way you can make the course as easy or hard as you want.Just a suggestion.

12x12 is just too big at close.

Just my 2. </div></div>

I thought the same thing, but don't forget some of the targets are shot at from multiple positions. I'll bet they still get missed every now and then.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

Trust me, I will have my subway and will probably be eating everytime you look at me just like all the other matches.

I think it was Glenn last year that caught me off guard and got the pic with the surprised look on my face while I was stuffing a sub down my throat.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

The shorter distances will not be easy to hit...trust me.
Just because they are 12"x12" means nothing on this course.
There will be different so called situations on this course.
Keep in mind...alot of the 500 yard or so range targets get missed alot...
Also this course is for new shooters WITH smaller rifles cartridges....that's the point of closer distances.

MOA size---- Animal vitals are the same size weather they're 100 yards or 1500 yards from you. We can't change that... it's not a luxury we have to make them bigger so we can hit them easier. So...if the plates are 12"x12" from say 75 yards to 500 yards....you going to tell me you can hit it everyshot? HOw big is the 10 ring on a whitetail 3d target? Hmmm now see what I'm saying? Don't lose focus on what this course is for.
If your using a tree or hay bail or rock or log, standing, sitting, kneeling just like in a real world situation when hunting...your not going to hit the 12"x12" plate easily the first shot....or the second. For those who think it's easy to do it...the course will be set up in Febuary.

THIS IS A SEPERATE COURSE ON THE PROPERTY. DIFFERENT POSITIONS/STAGES. SMALLER CARTRIDGES AS WELL AS BIG GUNS. IF YOUR A HUNTER..THIS IS THE COURSE FOR YOU. Or how bout we make it unknown distance no lasers? Hmmm...lots of misses for 3 shots then at 12"x12". Not trying to be a smart ass guys but shooting the KNOWN distance "Intimidator" has spoiled some of you. The best is yet to come....trust me. I will make a better shooter out of you if you let me. This what I enjoy.

Hint....start making shooting sticks. One, two or three leg.
I'd choose the three leg. Or a nice tri-pod strapped to your pack.

One last thing....The "Intimidator" is a known distance course made up of 16 targets 8"x18" and 12" dia. targets (160 points possible) and no one has come close to aceing it yet. We need to get shirts made..."I aced the Intimidator" so when it happens we can hand one out. And a trophy custom made...any ideas? I'm thinking a laser engraved piece of stainless with TVP logo on it saying that.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

Hey Tom-

Will this new course include the use of shotguns, pistols and muzzleloaders?Or rifles only?

Merry Christmas

van

PS-Since I was telling you of my goals last week-Could you have that shirt made up in XL?Just a couple of my goals this upcoming year.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

I'll be the first to miss!
When I shot the IBO I learned things aren't always what they appear.
My buddies wanted to set up a target using a ranger door and chair to shoot from just for me.
If you have an electronic file of the logo let me know.
I can see if it will work with one of my cam programs.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

Merry Christmas also everyone

(12 x 12 discussion)....Exactly Tom, dont forget guys, 12x12 is the same surface area as 8x18, that doesnt mean they will be easier to hit...if anything they could be harder if youre elevation dope isnt where it needs to be.

Did anybody come up with any pictures from positions 2,3, and 4? I feel like Breeze will have them if he pops back in here since he had that nice one from pos 1

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

Twas the day after Christmas, and all in the land.
The Guy's were all playing with new toys in their hands.

Others just looked around, and said where is it at.

Moral of the story.
The ground conditions come into play too.
We can all take pics and share.

I'm in! It looks like I'll be towing Josh and Sheldon along. I'm looking forward to it 'cause I may shoot the 223. We should have half of Ohio there from the way things are shaping up here. See you there.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

RODENT-

Really the .223? Through the whole course? I seriously thought about doing it myself.

Or---If your son is wanting to shoot also...I will loan him my rifle. LET ME KNOW.I'm sure I will have it with me.Just need to know how much ammo to bring.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3

Thanks van, I'll see what he wants to do. I will let you know early in the week. You're too kind brother.

Firemarshall,
I hear ya! I finally get to sit down to write a flight manual supplement and I discover I have the OUTDOOR HD channel. I hate being a procrastinator.

No till fields, not valleys.

Thanks Santa.

Weren't you going to use that stock for a patern to make one out of aluminum? Pretty cool.

From the looks of this thread it doesn't look like anyone is staying home!! Thats good to see so much interest, but Tom might have to start taking reservations

. Might as well plan on being there until dark or so.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Yeah, I have the forend already designed for it.
Action will be bedded in alum block.
Butt and grip will probably be AR style.
Just tryin to figure out what is not needed on the outside, and still look good.

Looks like we got the cold and snow!

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

are spectators welcome?
I am very interested in this type of competition, and would like to watch a match, before I enter one. I would like to get some kind of idea how they work and what equipment I might need.

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

I'm interested to see how many people walk out the door sunday morning and then turn around and climb back in bed. It looks like it is going to be in the 20s and snowing. Should make for a fun match. It will be nice to get data on a day like that. I haven't shot in weather that cold as most of my data is from Texas.

Regarding the drive up, are there roads that get cleared earlier than others. I know that driving up from Columbus I ussually take 93 up to Tom's. It seems like a fairly narrow winding road in the summer much less covered in snow. Would you recommend a different road that may be more clear if it continues to snow?

It looks like I could take 70 to 77 then get off at 541 and stay on bigger roads. Would that be advised?

Thanks,

Josh

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Josh,
93 is a good choice...most likly the shortest way.... It's a main route to Zanesville for alot of folks from our area so it should be clear. I hope! 70-77-541 is much longer....541 would be the same as 93 for snow plowing importance. I'd say take 93. Besides, from the sound of it there might be a caravan your following anyway! Tow strap anyone?

Thought...maybe some of you could meet at Bob Evans in Zanesville and eat breakfast...maybe carpool?

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Does anybody have a Swarovski LRF? Thinking of getting one and would like to look through one try one out? Or anyone have any recommendations on a good LRF? I have the Leupold RX-IV right now and want something better!

Re: Thunder Valley Precision (TVP) Steel Shoot 1-3-10

Frozen ground and snow covered course.
Just what we hoped for!
RT 60 wouldn't be too bad either, if it was one of your options.
(North or South)
Targets and stations may be cleared with just a little wind.
Let's not wish for that.

Well, it sounds like you want to SPEND some money, but if you want to SAVE some money go with the Bush elite 1500. It may not have the best glass out there, but it works consistently to 1500yds and beyond. I ranged a tree at Toms at 1398 last time I was there, and non-reflective are not supposed to range that far.

I was considering the Elite also but never looked through one if you dont mind Sun maybe I could check it out. I just want something better than my Leupold.
