Tikka T3 Thread

Tac A1 in 6.5 Creedmoor. Absolutely live this setup and have about 1200rds down it currently. Few setbacks about the rifle but mainly just the freebore and slow barrel. Otherwise it’s sub 1/2” shooter and a fun setup to improve myself as a shooter behind. Plans this year are a 26” phat barrel spun up for it to improve performance a little bit.

So I'm debating on selling my Gen 1 Sendero in 7rm and buying a Tikka to build off of. Now my question, how many of you are having the Tikka action trued? My thoughts are instead of having the Sendero action trued, and new Proof Carbon chambered to 7SAUM and installed or selling and purchasing a custom action (Gunwerks GRB, Bighorn, Kelbys) I figured if the Tikka doesn't need trued, I could just get the Proof Carbon, and have it installed (7SAUM) and save on costs.

Truing action on a Tikka is not needed.

Is someone still shooting the original 6.5CM 24" barrel?

I often read it is to slow, what I can´t tell, speed is no problem with mine, but accuracy at speed is.

I´m having groups under .5 MOA with different 140gr. bullets and velocities around 2620 up to 2700 fps.
But with higher velocities my groups begin to open up.

Wanted to ask you, if someone made the same experience.
I´m guessing the barrel is to thin for those speeds, so that the vibrations grow and ruin precision.

What do you think?

What powder are you using ?
What bullets ?
What are the OAL and ogive lengths of the handloads ?
I have a 24” CTR in 6.5 CM and have good luck with RL16 so far.
H4350 was about 100 FPS slower than the RL16 loads in this barrel.

New AG composite stock for my MT rifle build, started as a tikka t3 superlite and added muzzle brake and now the stock, next is bolt shroud, bottom metal still dont know if I want to go eith aics magazines or not trying to keep it as light as possible, cerakote, scope, maybe even a prefit carbon barrel in a different caliber. So far I am loving it! Stock came in faater than expected thanks to OMR rifles, great customer service hands down the best experience I've ever had.

I have a CTR too.

Bullets are Laupua´s 139 Scenar, Hornady 140s FMJ-BT and ELD-Match, 147 ELD-Match.

Powders are European (I´m German) because American Powders are mostly hard to get here, different Vithavuori and Reload Swiss.
(Just as a sidenote: Like I said, speed is not the problem, the RS70 powder from Reload Swiss gains hilarious velocities in this cartridge.)

But to go away from the powders, I think the V0 is the important parameter, right?

So, at which velocities did you get your best accuracy?
?

I call that an OOOOOOPS. Thankfully you're OK. That could been a really bad day.

It's ok. At least your vehicle is intact.... unlike my range trip today.... I was driving, no wind, 36 degrees F (2c), gonna be a perfect day... called ahead, recording at the range phone said it was open....

Idiots parked in the road playing in the snow around a blind corner forced me to keep too far right to avoidthem, and subsequently, my passenger side mirror went bye bye thanks to a broken tree branch sticking out into the road.

Like a good citizen, I go back and pick up the pieces because I dont want anyone to pop a tire or anything on my debris.

I carry on to the range to shoot all this lovely ammo I made for my T3x Tac a1.... get to the range and...

Thinking about the stock/chassis for my tikka build. Manners stock builder doesn’t list tikka T3, I’m assuming they can inlet for the T3 (I have a T2A on my CTR) do I just need to call them? Leaning toward another T2A with elite shell and CDI LA bottom metal. Maybe a PRS-2 since it’s a tad lighter.

I want a Manners I think with CDI LA, but an MDT ESS would work too.

I really wish KRG would make a LA bravo!

I ordered the barrel blank yesterday from Bartlein. SS Medium Palma, LHGT 8.75-8, 1.130” breech diameter, finished at 26” at 0.836” (match the taper of a 30” med palma).

Jeff the owner of CDI passed away back in August and everything has been shut down as far as I know.
Unless you already have the CDI you might have a hard time finding it unless you get it used.

Thanks I hadn’t read that. Maybe the mountain tactical or the red snake is the way to go then. Standard tikka DBM inlet for them.

Five rounds of RUAG .223 Rem Swiss P 69 grain I picked up recently to try. Barrel is a heavy palma Bartlein 1:7 twist 5R spun up by Insite Arms out of Alberta. Was pretty chilled when I shot this string, so I'm pretty confident the stray shot is me and not the barrel+ammo.

Still running my Tikka in an MDT HS3 while I wait for my ACC to get back from being milled for my lefty action.

Hi,

How long are y’all able to load 30-06 in these? Can Reading reports of ~3.400” COAL but was wanting to confirm with the addicts before I consider an action for a build.

Thinking a 225 ELDM would be my projectile of choice.

Last question, does anyone here know if I can swap barrels like reubenski does with his TL3? See thread below:

Thinking I need a .308, .223, and I want a 30-06 barrel.

Look into hells canyon armory mags, Mike came up with a good design for longer COAL that can work with factory bottom metal.

Got my 6.5CM CTR mounted up in the KRG that showed up today (Man Bun Engaged!!). Looking forward to sending some lead downrange with the new setup, this weekend!

You got the Arkan optics on top of the rig.
Has it been what they are talking about?

I honestly like it. My turrets are crisp and precise, zero stop is phenomenal, parallax knob is smooth, mag ring is snug, but not overly tight, eyebox is HUGE, glass is clear and sharp. FFP reticle is busy, but I've got zero issues zoning out the bits I don't need. It's big like a Razor II, but nowhere near as heavy. My only complaint it the rings are a bit high. That being said, I'm still using the stock Tikka 0-MOA rail, so a 30-MOA Pic Rail might be spot on. I feel like it's a steal for the price! I went into the purchase expecting a $600 scope and was pleasantly surprised.

how does it compare to a PST genII or Razor or leupold?

CDI has closed their doors, the owner passed away. Look at Redsnake or Mountain Tactical for LA bottom metal. What caliber are you going to?

***Edit** I should have read a little more before I responded.

I believe he has one similar on a Tikka action. I am having my smith spin up another 22 BR and a 6.5 Creedmoor barrel with 3/4" flats near the muzzle so I can swap them in the stock/chassis with a crows foot on a torque wrench.

@reubenski could probably correct me if I am wrong.

You would need to buy another bolt for the 223. I really like having my Varmint as a complete rifle. Going to spin up a 1-7" 223 AI for it and cut the factory barrel down to 20" for hunting suppressed.

I think it's better than the PST gen2 (which is what I was originally going to purchase) I believe the glass is sharper, the eyebox is bigger, and I didn't need/want the IR, so I felt like that was an unnecessary cost/feature on the PST. It's not a Razor Gen 2, and the glass isn't in the same catagory, but it is close! A leupold comparison is a tough cookie for me. I'm from Portland originally, and was raised to support local, especially when the company has such an amazing heritage/history of top level products. I was raised on Leupold scopes, and their top tier scopes are still the level I believe most optics companies strive to match, but they have NOTHING under $2500 that has similar features. It's like comparing apples and bananas in my mind

Regarding trueing data, when you guys true your velocity how much have you added or removed in your calculator to line up data?

I'm on the 2nd barrel for my Tikka and luckily my factory barrel lined up spot on with Ballistic AE. Unfortunately I'm finding a discrepancy with my new barrel past 450 yards. At the last match, an RO worked with me to get me on target at 700 yards after the stage was over. I needed to add 44fps to the calculator to make everything line up.

This^^^. A friend got the 140 ELDM to almost 2800 with Rl16 and Peterson SRP brass.

My current hunting handload with RL16 pushes a 140 Nosler Ballistic Tip at 2815 out of my 24" barrel.
It's loaded 0.020" off the lands in a Tikka factory barrel which has the bullet base inside the neck.
It'll shot 5 into one hole with a SD under 10 FPS so it's a great hunting round.

Now if I can make the time to go test the Sierra 142's in this rifle with RL16...

Nice, I think the more I review your video the more I see benefit in running a system like yours on a long action. I can then go from a magnum, standard, and to a small bolt face/barrel in minutes without AI ergonomics. Very slick.

The prices of the T3 Lites (action harvesting) have me pretty interested as opposed to going custom.

Hey all,

How difficult or rather pricey would it be to buy a .223 bolt, doesn't matter to me if it's used so long as it works. I found a good deal on a 6.5CM T3X but want to either rebarrel in .223 or 224V. I know the 224V uses a different bolt face than the .223 but I could have the .223 opened up.

Figured I would ask here as this is where all the tikka junkies hang out haha...
