After the thread about painting stocks, I finally got down and did it myself. Been thinking of it for a long time, but had always been a bit cautious.

I am quite happy with the way it turned out. Just will have to clear it at a later date. Dont have many places to play with paint.

Anyone have insight swapping a 300wm bolt into a “sa” to build a 6.5prc? I know the bolt head is right, and fits fine in the other action , just wondering if I’m missing anything other than checking headspace.

I sold that whole package, including muzzle brake etc at 800€.
I did ask 900€, but that guy was good to bargain
So i bougt a Tikka picatinny rail and glued it to the action.
Now basically that is a ctr with 24" barrel, but with the 2-stage trigger.
That has great touch when unscrew the tension so light that you can, no need to spring change, well not yet anyways

Long action bolt stop and if your going to use the original plastic magazine you need a 300 WM/7MM to fit the PRC.
You can load 3 PRC in the mag and 1 in the chamber.

I am definitely new to painting things on rifles. This took me no time at all. I am happy with how it came out, much cheaper than the alternative stock upgrade.

Where I generally hunt is the badlands. So lots of colors around. Upper fields canola or wheat. Lower fields are grazing pasture.

Can be a few feet of snow, or no snow. Every year is different.

Even in the TAC A1 223rem rifle, it has bolt stop that allows bolt coming all the way back, that´s not cool.

I shot my buddies last year at a mini match we did in Carthage and wanted desperately to buy his barreled action from him. But he was selling it complete with the McRee only. If my PRF wouldn’t have broke and i had the 3000bdx on the way. I’d be jumping on a T3x varmint right now in 223. Pretty much mimic the feel of my tempest. Ultimately would love to have it in a prs2 but probably keep it a little cheaper and put it in a mcm A3 or grayboe. Put the k318i on it and run with it

No that range shut down. The guy who owned it is a doucher like beyond all reason. Honestly don't know who's backing him but he's relabeled three times now and does downright shitty work. Also lied about his service. I didn't even want my friend joining or associating with him.

It's on the november 14th post and they updated some pictures of the barricades and such.

Isn't it amazing? We're so trained to think that bullshit tolerances are acceptable. You'll notice that no one offers a Tikka "trueing" service.

It's pretty easy to find Tikkas for under $500, either new or like new. As long as the bolt head fits your intended caliber you're good to go. Still costs less than a "trued" Remington or Savage action and there's no need to ditch the trigger. You'll have the smoothest out-of-the-box bolt action available.

You might be able to sell off the barrel and other parts, but even if you don't, you're still miles ahead. It's very easy to sell Hunter, Forest or Laminate T3 stocks.

I put a take off 6.5 Creedmoor barrel on my 260 CTR and the headspace was perfect. Tikka is doing something right. I have 3 and one I bought when Euro-Optic was closing out their T3's. Less than $400 with shipping and transfer fees. It is going to be a match rifle.

My t3 is on its way to Carbon 6 right now for a 6.5prc barrel install. The most difficult part thus far was sourcing a magnum bolt which only took a week to find. I bought the rifle in 308 with an SHV 4-14 on it for a grand. It had been fired once. I wasn’t impressed with the 308 groupings, so the choice was easy.

Thats a new one on me also, always assumed it could be possible with Tikkas but have never tried. I've carried a spare bolt from another Tikka to matches for awhile just in case I need parts, I'm gonna throw that bolt in my match rifle and check some tolerances.

I have seen a picture and a video of someone shooting a .223 CTr and the outside of the magazine looked just like the 308/6.5 CTR mags. The insert like the accurate is probably right on the money.

I was in my local gun shop the other day, here in Australia, and they had a Tikka T3X CTR in 223 (1:12 twist) sitting there. I was in a rush but managed to snap some photos of the magazine.

According to the shop clerk the 223 CTR mag is the same exterior dimensions as the 308 etc CTR mag but with an insert.

From my not-great photo it looks like the max OAL in the 223 CTR mag is roughly 65mm to 66mm (2.56” to 2.60”) which is nice and long for those wanting to run heavy bullets or seat further out. ?

As I recall the gents from Australia (Hardy) do a shouldered pre-fit but I think all the other options are barrel nut ones. I don't think Tikkas are quite consistent enough to be certain that fitting won't be required and I don't think anyone wants to take on the liability.

I took my TAC A1 223rem with 1/8, could not thinking that 1/12 option at all, will shoot pritty mych heavy bullets only what i load for this gun.
GGG 55gr fmj NATO ammo only for training for my kid.

Well that's fascinating, I used the exact same barrel vice to remove a Tikka barrel and those leather pads were worthless. Seems like they decreased the friction rather than increasing it and the barrel would end up spinning. I asked Mechforce about it and they said the pads were more for delicate finishes and applications requiring less torque.

In the end 3 sheets of plain white paper in between the vice clamps worked like a champ. Barrel was held fast and the receiver came off without too much effort.

oh the original pads are toast lol. That pic was my other Tikka that has been upgraded by a smith. That barrel was a breeze to get off, the factory one...that's another story however. Still can't get it to budge and think I ruined it to be honest.

Ha! Ok, so our experiences are sadly consistent! My factory barrel wasn't too bad. I held it upright for a couple days with Kroil around the threads, although who knows if that helped. Then I clamped the barrel at a point were it didn't have much taper and then wedged a piece of 2x4 under the barrel shoulder to eliminate any flex when I turned the action wrench. I used a Wheeler #1, also with paper between it and the receiver flats. Seems to do the trick nicely. Maybe that might help you.

Yeah, my factory .223 hunter barrel is not coming off ever I don't think., mainly because I'll mess up the finish if I do it, and I don't want to pay a smith to pop it off because then I'll need to buy another barrel for it!
