Night Vision Traveling outside the USA with NV Equipment

Live in the USA, but going to Zimbabwe in March--my PH tells me many of his hunters bring NV equipment to hunt the nocturnal varmints there---Does anyone know the exact do and don'ts with respect to traveling with NV/Thermals from the USA to say Zim?

One of the Contributors here told me the State Dept limits Gen 3 NV and 30HZ thermals--but wasn't sure about the rest.

Contact DOS and find out if it is ITAR restricted or ask one of the NV distributors here. If it is Gen 3 you can bet it is restricted.

If it is and you get caught, you loose it and could be in further trouble.

Hogrider is correct to contact DOS as well to be absolutely certain on your NV devices.

Gen 3 and thermal 30hz are strictly ITAR restricted. Any Gen 2 standard 29LP below (Technically NON-ITAR), must have your Tube Data Sheet with you as well.

If you get caught with restricted NV devices, ignorance unfortunately is not an excuse and currently the courts come down hard on folks nowadays.

Be very careful on what you take with OCONUS travels, some customs folks rather react instead of having knowledge. Have the knowledge for them in the form of all the proper paperwork. Hope this helps.
