I have been looking at the Winchester and Hornady ballistic charts and I'm unsure on a few things. Of course I know the importance of the bullet size and velocity, but isn't the energy(according to the chart) what's really important as far as stopping a target goes?

Re: Understanding Ballistics

Its all important. A bullets ability cut thru the air (ballistic coeficiency, or BC) relates to a bullets ability to retain its velocity. Energy is important, but at longer ranges, if the bullet cant maintain a sufficient velocity, that means big loss in energy delivered to the target.
