My god, the Roman Empire fell because they were gay??? And all these years I thought the fell due to the governments lack of control over their military, over extending their territories, becoming a dictator over assimilated cultures, corruption in the legislature, and failure to listen to the people. Glad you set us STRAIGHT here. I dont know what we would do without history lessons like this. </div></div>

Rome fell for a lot of reasons, not least of which was the fact they were at the top of the heap for over 6-10 centuries, depending on how you count the republic era and then the emperor(Dictator really) era that followed, then the Byzantine period that saw Rome fall into the shadow of Constantinople.
In short, libertine buggery did not the cause the fall of Rome.
As a non veteran, I have problems with how this whole DADT business came about and is now, ostensibly, "resolved".
It was just a month ago when the White House stated it categorically believed that this was not the time for such a sweeping change, yet there will be no veto of the lame duck bills approved by the house and senate.
Personally, I think the armed forces will manage this latest development in the fashion in which they have dealt with other social engineering foisted upon it by politicians. It will work out in spite of the politicians cynical motivations to appear benevolent.
