Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Currently 37.8 Varget-safe to start at 35 and work up. Only use 105+123 in the 6.5x47-139,s+ in the 6.5X55.Depends what you had the throut cut for. Varget works great-tried H4350-wasn,t happy. Also tried RL15-worked well-but the weather is still cool.barry

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

34.8 g Varget with 130 g Berger VLDs is extemely accurate in my 6.5 x 47L. My last time at the range I shit three 5 shit groups at 100 yards under 0.33" with the load above seated to just touch the lands. The weather has been a little crappy to take my chrony out but I hope to the next trip out with the 6.5 L

Hope this helps,

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Like I said if the weather is better I will get my chrony out, then I will be able to tell you the velocity.

As to the barrel length it is a weather independent 28-inch.

Thanks

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Ther are several of us using Varget with 130 Bergers barrels in the 25-28 inch range and 2900-2950 is doable like stated above start with 35grs and work up we all ended up at 37-37.8

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

I just got back from the range. I'm getting better velocities with Varget vs. RL 15, with less pressure. Rem 700/ 25" Rock 1:8. All single digit SD's. 4,000 feet asl.

Berger 130g/Wolf Mag Primers

1. 37.0g - 2748fps
2. 37.3g - 2840
3. 37.6g - 2869
4. 37.9g - 2900 (moderate pressure primer starting to flatten)

Lapua 123g/Wolf Mag Primer
1. 37.5 - 2931 fps
2. 37.8 - 2948
3. 38.0 - 2969
4. 38.2 - 2985 (moderate pressure primer starting to flatten)

I'm gonna run some of these loads with CCI 450's to check the difference.

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

Thanks for the loads they wrk great, not to be a dick but in sitting on 31.2kg of varget & a lifetime suplly of 210m's.
It pays to buy evrything you can while you can.

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

For those of us in America, 31.2kg is 68.8lbs

Re: Varget in 6.5x47 Lapua?

I run 37.0 grains of Varget behind 123 Scenars and Wolf SRM primers. My chronograph shows that I am achieving 2950 FPS out of a 26 inch Brux 8.5 twist barrel. The rifle is a hammer, I am not.

I was lucky to find 8 lb jugs of Varget at Wideners a few months ago, so I stocked up.
