Washington state monthly matches at Upper Nisqually Sportsman's Club

Just a quick note, I messed up on the speed limit that was sent out in the email. The actual speed limit for the match is 3150fps to keep us inline with other local, regional and national matches.

I can bring it out, just need a reminder closer to the match so I don't forget.

BTW the COF looks awesome ! This match is going to kick ass for being challenging, can't wait for it.

Fedcop,
I don't have a magneto, but I do have a chrono you can use. PM, or email me if you want to meet and pick it up. I'll be happy to loan it to you.

Sweet, thanks guys! Eric, ill shoot you a reminder closer to Feb. This match is going to be pretty awesome...... my total score, not so much ;)

Yeah, that COF looks AWESOME(!) not to mention ambitious! Are we gonna need head-lamps or nightvision for this COF? I gotta think we'll run a little later on this one,... Not that it's a problem, I'm just sayin'... :)

Ry

We will be running two different stages side by side next month. We will run everyone through the 1st stage all at the same time and then we will be running stages 2&3 together, 4&5 and so on. Shooters will shoot one stage and then go get in line for the other stage. There will be quite a bit less free time I'm afraid, and the shooters will be kept pretty busy if this runs right. I think we should be done by 3pm.

Registration for the February match is full now. I have locked the sheet so that I am the only one who can edit it.

If you would like to be added to the wait list please let Unknown or myself know and I will add you.

If you have signed up and decide that you cannot make it to the match for any reason please let one of us know immediately. There are already people on the wait list who want to shoot.

If you have a reserved spot for the match and you do not show up without letting us know ahead of time you will not get a spot at the following months match.

Any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me.

Gents, is it worth discussing using the rifle racks to keep an uncased rifle with chamber flag stored between stages? I think KevinD knows what I'm talking about.

Last time I had to grab an RO to get escorted to the safety area, and that doesn't seem efficient. Unless the answer is for me to just bring a dang case.

We will be trying something new out where we won't be using rifle cases, just chamber flags. Everyone's rifles will be staged on the ground near the firing line off to the side with flags in.

Anyone happen to know what elevation the range is at? I'd like to get my dope figured out before I get there... All I can find on the Internets is the town of Nisqually seems to be 450-500 ft, but I have no idea if that's relevant to the range.

At 500 yards and under having exact elevation data will not matter too much, but it is a good practice to get into nonetheless.

I will have my Kestrel with me tomorrow if anyone wants to use it. I;ll aso have a PDA that has the Exbal program loaded into it.
We will post distances to all the targets at the range shack after we set up, and check distances with a laser.

I'm gonna bring my Kestral, Rangefinder, PDA (read: Android Phone with Applied Ballistics & Strelok), and MagnetoSpeed chronograph if anyone wants to use them to get a good dope,...

Here are the results from today's match at UNSC. Congrats to Mike for his win!

Thanks Kevin and Anton for putting the match together! I really like the new format. Being able to cycle in and out of stages in no particular order was great! Having the freedom to jump in early and get shots off immediately or dealing with an issue (pierced primer), and only then getting in line was really nice. Given how well today went, I think we could even run,... wait for it,... THREE lanes of fire at once (gasp). While I can see that it could be challenging to do ALL the time, I think the potential is there given the three lanes don't interfere with one another. In any case, great job you guys, it was probably the best COF yet,... and that's saying a lot,... See you in April!

Ryan

I totally agree. From a social aspect I like the new format as well: Going to the rack to get your rifle and lining up for the stages made it easier to mingle. I imagine this would also help new shooters get integrated.

I also enjoyed looking at all the rifles lined up and seeing what other folks were shooting.

During the post match get together at Brunos we discussed moving targets. Not sure if this has been discussed before, but can we integrate moving targets into the COF? We could get somebody (I'll volunteer) to walk in the 500 yard pits with a cardboard IPSC target stapled onto a wood pole.

The target would be raised at one end of the pits signalling the start of the session. When the target is lowered at the other end, the session is over. This will probably take 30 seconds or so.

The shooter can take up to 5 shots. The target can be scored (hit or no hit) and details communicated back to the RO and shooter. The holes get taped up and another session begins.

I can supply the targets and wood pole.

Thoughts?

I asked about using the pit at a board meeting last year. The board said no.

Yesterday was a BLAST! Yes thank you Kevin and Anton for your hard work on this. It is a great that we got 25 shooters through 9 stages in that short amount of time. I think 3 shooters going would be beneficial but at the same time it would take more ROs and man power may be an issue (I don't know). I REALLY liked the KYL with a twist we should run it as the first stage next time but also run in backwards (smallest to largest)... Thanks again.

I feel as if the rifle rack as a great use this match but I think we are about at its capacity. Scott PM me is you want to send payment/meet up for that powder.

On that note^^^^ It would be nice to not need an "Introduction" and just get to shooting.... (Not to sway away new shooters just having the same old group show up...)

I also liked the way the match went yesterday.

Kevin and I have both proposed movers, to no avail, but things may change with the club, so don't give up hope..we will continue having contact with the board of directors.

I don't mind getting the matches started early as I'm an early riser. For liability, we have to hold an orientation for first time shooters. The orientation reduces the club's (and our) liability immensely, and it allows us to spot shooters whose poor gunhandling warrants us watching them more closely in the match. The biggest thing people have a problem with is keeping the muzzle of loaded firearms from pointing over the impact berm.

Kevin and I will be talking about various ways to run courses as we move forward, but the way yesterday's match ran impressed both of us favorably. I'm sure we will have more courses like yesterday's match.

As the format for yesterday's match was Kevin's idea, I would like to publicly thank, and congratulate him for coming up with such a great match for everyone: I think it was a smashing success.

I personally thought that yesterdays match went super, lots of stages, there were 25 plus shooters, down time was minimal, stages were interesting and challenging. I think it will be hard to improve in yesterdays format, running two stages side by side seemed to work flawlessly. I'm not sure howany new shooters attended but the more new shooters we had participating can only benefit the sport here in the Northwest. Hopefully some of those who start shooting here, will take the plunge and start getting out to some of the longer range matches on the East side and challenge themselves even more.

This match format was great! It was nice to be able to check out other people's guns (that was one of my favorite parts of the eastside matches) and the lineup was great! Great match direction. Also, I'm hoping that my finishing place wasn't a glitch and that I can blame all of my poor finishes over the last few years on my old scope!

Quick blog post with a few photos.

Also, I know that everyone was snapping photos of the tens of thousands of dollars worth of rifles lined up. Here's one of mine.

That rack gives me a warm fuzzy feeling as it reminds me of the freedoms we have in this country that other parts of the world can only dream of.

I'm sure they recognize by now that we are a net benefit to the club and conduct ourselves in a very professional manner. I'll keep my fingers crossed that they will allow us to introduce movers.
