Maggie’s What's Your View II

Late afternoon we felt it was fitting to shoot some of our stuff that rests 3 deep in the safe. I chose my M1A that has always been crazy accurate (have to admit that I was nervous/skeptical as my eyes have "changed" a lot over the past few years). Miss Lori wanted to shoot her M1 Carbine (Inland Headlamp-the real deal). So, here is our view later in the day...

My first 3 at 100 with various bags for a rest from the bench. It enjoys a certain lot # of BH 168 gr Match. It was a long walk down to check the target as I really struggled with the open sights. Lucky... IMG_3688.JPG

Miss Lori and her M1 Carbine...

That's a helluva great day right there tnichols. For some reason I can't see the pics of the missus with her carbine, but I've always had a love for the M1A. I sorely regret not buying one when I had the means. This damn place derailed me with "fancy" rifles that cost a lot more but don't have near the timeless elegance of the M1A or the Garand.

I hate this shit!

This shit is OK. I won't say who, but a perv on this site requested a foot shot. Yes, those are jammies I'm wearing..

Corn. Sidedressed yesterday. I put enough N on it that it should take off. You may notice a sunflower here and there. Handed my littlest a cup of flower seed and told him to plant wherever he wanted.

Beans. Had to replant them cause a whole bean eating village decided to raid them. I razed the village. No quarter given.

Melons. Planted peas yesterday to the right of the melons. Left plenty of room for the melons to spread.

Ground hogs.

It is thistle. I have a lot of spraying that I need to make time for. I'll either have to get some Grazon P+D or cut the critters off some ground that I plan to plant in the fall. Critters grazing on Grazon Next will spread the chems to other ground when pooping.

Glad you wiped out the whistle pigs! That is the draw back of Grazon, Forefront R&P, etc... Don't know how thick you got 'em, or how many acres, but you could just spot spray them with a 2-4D based product. Just don't let those melons and beans get a whiff of it.

Someone's been busy as fuck. Wholly shit, and yes, I mean wholly shit. Great shots btw. I laughed harder than I should have, I mean, you know, at whomever that sick fucker is you're talking about. We got some real questionable folks running round these here parts I tell ya.

Not many big ones, but a second crop of that stuff is coming up everywhere plus a little dogfennel. I'll have to watch the wind and use the right tips/psi because it's adjacent to the garden.

Sentinel, is that a transfer station?

Sorry 1J04, but, isn't that kinda' normal for you folks? We've been rain free for about 4-5 days now. Give me a minute, and I'll be bitchin' that we NEED rain :)

lmao Ya, we had our 2 days of Summer last week and now, well, we're moving into Winter.

I think it is a Transfer Station. And still more traffic than I'd like to see. :p

This itty bitty Blacktail was hanging out in my kids yard. Such a young Buck that's gonna have a great set of Antlers. Damn nice eyeguards going also. He's gonna have it all when he grows up, if he grows up.

Small bird perished in a jet/bird collision late this afternoon. Bird was not wearing his seatbelt. I named him posthumously "Skidmark". RIP

Reminds me of the time I put a full-grown cormorant though the prop of the 120 climbing through 1800 AGL over hilly International Paper Co. pine forest as far as you could see (i.e. NOWHERE to go). It felt like someone slammed the cowl with a baseball bat. There were a few of us flying together, so I got a visual inspection for major damage from another plane. They didn't see anything hanging off the plane, so we pressed on for home. After landing I taxied up to a friend's hangar where everyone had gathered and they were all pointing at the side of the plane (uh-oh). When I got out and looked, the whole right side of the plane was sprayed with blood and gore, along with the right wheel pant. It completely puree'd him but didn't damage the plane at all. We tracked the prop for any run-out and didn't find a bit.

I bet my ride home was a bit more anxious than yours, though!

^^^ The glory of propellers. They usually dice and slice most stuff that passes through, and that's a good thing. Easier to wash than replace windscreens, leading edges, etc... Over 25 years, I've claimed a fair amount of our feathered friends, all without incident, so far.

I can imagine. The only other one I've hit was as a passenger in an open cockpit Starduster Too on final, but that was just a sparrow (or similar) and it hit a flying wire (THOOONG!!) and was vaporized - a non-event. A fellow pilot at my airport nearly bought the farm however, when a buzzard caved in the leading edge of the flying stabilizer of his Arrow. He was about 2000 AGL and lost 1000 before he recovered. He couldn't control it under 100 kts, so his approach was HOT, and he slammed it onto the deck. Another buddy of mine was watching the landing, not knowing of the problem, and said it looked like an F-14 coming aboard.

Summer has arrived (I for one personaly enjoy winter). 90 degrees F here today. The corn is "popping" and everything is green and lush. I'm down to 2 LR targets now as the crops and farming activity dictates I pull my "winter" steel. Furthest now is 695 yards (yawn) with a 260. Mowing and weed control are in full swing and wears my skinny ass out. My view this evening...

That's beautiful, again, and some more........... Looks like a damn golf course. Very nice job and view.

Next piece of steel is going in the new spot top left. I know, I know it's only 624 but they're not done yet. :p Crap in front has got to come down. Gotta have someone finish wood for me to.
Things are changing. Some opening up again, some closing back up. Hell, it wasn't that long ago you could do a tad over a mile. Meh.
Now C'mon Chicken. Hangry.

600+ will keep you honest in the wind, especially with a short action. Great view!

"Big Shit Eating Grin" There is no doubt about that. I shoot Magnums. Not exclusively, but most of my shooting for the past 22 yrs has been easily 85% Magnums. 500 fps and change is a shit load to this guy. The difference is obviously huge and still screws me up when it blows at that range. I'm not all that. Not even close, But get'n better with it. ;) And thx buddy. Hopefully snipe an animal up there this year in my boxer's out the bathroom window.

After how many months of $#@*ing Monsoons and cold... tomorrow is supposed to be nice, clear and dry! And the red sky tonite... seems to indicate that is true.

The view from the deck at Schloss Nitrocellulose!

Cheers.

Sirhr

You win my friend, for now. ;) If kicking back right then and there with a cold glass of something doesn't put a huge grin on your face nothing will. Outstanding shot Sir. Thank you.

LOL. I knew this would please many here. Keep them coming you filthy animals!

Treating with black dye and blue dye to keep the color aesthetically pleasing, water temperatures lower for the summer, and to limit sunlight penetration to hamper aquatic weed growth. Additionally, a product called Cutting Plus to help keep undesirable bacteria and algae at bay.

I treat it 2 to 3 times per year.
