Thanks for the compliments guys. We'd been doing a lot of catch and release bass fishing lately and I was in the mood to fish for meat. My lower back has all but totally locked me up: dragging my right leg and feeling like I've got a mechanic's chisel smashing my right testicle against my pubic bone with every step. I just couldn't fish standing up for a full day so we did some lazy fishing.
I'm gonna guess that this may not have been helping my back issues:
That rack in the background was completely empty when I started. I don't have a log splitter, so I've been having to use a borrowed 16" Poulan lawn and garden chainsaw to rip those big rounds down into manageable quarters. Many of y'all know how damn miserable trying to cut down the grain with a chainsaw can be, even with a proper chainsaw. I'm splitting every single log with a shitty Chinese axe from Menards. No wedge/sledge, just pure axe splitting. To make matters worse, I've been fishing on the nice days and using the days where it was too hot to fish to split wood. So it's been the 90+ days with no breeze, out on a blacktop parking lot working at the wood pile.
I got it finished yesterday. A solid face chord/ rick, plus some, all done by hand. My lady has been wanting to learn some redneck skills, so she came down and gave me a break when I needed it. The giggles and smile of accomplishment when a woman successfully splits a log are worth the time it takes to teach them. For those of y'all that are anal about these things, yes: there are some big pieces on the right side. Those were pieces that were simply too hard and knotty to split. We use this wood for fire pits and backyard fires, so a few extra-large pieces come in handy anyway.
