Maggie’s What's Your View II

LOL. I knew this would please many here. Keep them coming you filthy animals!

Treating with black dye and blue dye to keep the color aesthetically pleasing, water temperatures lower for the summer, and to limit sunlight penetration to hamper aquatic weed growth. Additionally, a product called Cutting Plus to help keep undesirable bacteria and algae at bay.

I treat it 2 to 3 times per year.

We're gonna have to check with Veer, but I'm pretty certain there's a word for this type of behavior we wouldn't normally use. :p Tie Dying your Pond. You sure you don't have a Ganja plant or 12 out already? lmao

The wind is tricky around that pond. I have been out there on the boat and had to blowing against me going both directions.
Today, the wind appeared to steady and strong from the North, so I saw it as an opportunity to use it to help spread the sprayed mixture from one side quickly and evenly. About halfway through. the wind shifted 180 degrees and blew the shit right back in my face. Pretty sure it was the Fucking Russians!

So now we are a few hours later, all cleaned up, and the treatment (except what got on me) has spread evenly across the pond.

And I noticed I was being watched as I took the picture. She's hooked on that clover plot.

Been taking advantage of a few nice afternoons and getting out to fish a bit with some buddies

IMG_1547.JPG

A great day on the Little Calumet River about 6 blocks from my apartment. We saw a bunch of deer, raccoons, snakes, and other critters.

IMG_1544.JPG

We ended up landing 12lbs of catfish. I lost 2 at the bank trying to get them out of the water, they'd have put us over 20lbs on the day. At one point we'd run out of bait so my lady drove us some more bait and beer out to the dead end road and resupplied us. She's a keeper.

IMG_1545.JPG

Cleaning catfish on a rooftop was a bit different, but no huge obstacle for a redneck. I managed to get 4.5 lbs of beautiful meat, a bit above average yield for cats.

Fried them up up last night with some hush puppies and we sat on the roof and enjoyed the fruit of our labors.

There's a great day Bogey. Looks like ya had a great time. Haven't had catfish for a long time. Mouth be like watering. ;)

Now that is a GREAT day Bogey! Just sat down in the A/C to check in on the Hide. My son and I fished this morning. A little slow, but it was steady. The little fella' outfished his dad!

I figured someone would give me shit 'cause he's holding it like a girl :). He's got a tournament tomorrow and didn't want his right hand tore up by a treble. Here's another one from today holding a largemouth correctly...

Great pics Mr T. And damn good looking young man. You're obviously raising him right IMHO, whatever that's worth. I'm certain you're very proud of him. Is this on the property?

On our property? I WISH! It's Lake McBride State Park. About 20 miles southwest of us. It's a "sportsmen" lake, no wake, 10 HP limit, etc... Species include crappie, walleye, cat, blue gill, and large mouth.

Thanks for the explanation, and I'm sorry it's not your water. But at least ya get to use it. That's a great selection of fish for one damn lake ain't it? I'll have to look it up on Google Maps and see it's size, then roam around your back 40. ;)

I didn't even spell it correctly-Lake MacBride is how is listed. 812 acres

Beautiful place. Really beautiful. Fricking Huuuge too. That's a good piece of water. No wunder it's so diverse. Bet ya could catch fish and shoot deer outta the boat at the same time. Then of course probably some ducks n goose's.

Thanks for the compliments guys. We'd been doing a lot of catch and release bass fishing lately and I was in the mood to fish for meat. My lower back has all but totally locked me up: dragging my right leg and feeling like I've got a mechanic's chisel smashing my right testicle against my pubic bone with every step. I just couldn't fish standing up for a full day so we did some lazy fishing.

I'm gonna guess that this may not have been helping my back issues:

IMG_1541.JPG

That rack in the background was completely empty when I started. I don't have a log splitter, so I've been having to use a borrowed 16" Poulan lawn and garden chainsaw to rip those big rounds down into manageable quarters. Many of y'all know how damn miserable trying to cut down the grain with a chainsaw can be, even with a proper chainsaw. I'm splitting every single log with a shitty Chinese axe from Menards. No wedge/sledge, just pure axe splitting. To make matters worse, I've been fishing on the nice days and using the days where it was too hot to fish to split wood. So it's been the 90+ days with no breeze, out on a blacktop parking lot working at the wood pile.

IMG_1548.JPG

I got it finished yesterday. A solid face chord/ rick, plus some, all done by hand. My lady has been wanting to learn some redneck skills, so she came down and gave me a break when I needed it. The giggles and smile of accomplishment when a woman successfully splits a log are worth the time it takes to teach them. For those of y'all that are anal about these things, yes: there are some big pieces on the right side. Those were pieces that were simply too hard and knotty to split. We use this wood for fire pits and backyard fires, so a few extra-large pieces come in handy anyway.

Damn nice job Bogey. All the way around. Sorry you're having to deal with the pain, but look at you man. Toughing it out amd getting it done.

Love it Bogey! But, don't be afraid to let hydraulics be your friend. As the years pile on, it just helps achieve the desired result without the pain. In regards to your Lady, good for her embracing the "country" lifestyle (splittin' wood, cuttin' bait, etc...) she IS a keeper.

That's awesome Tucker! He already has a big head from being on the Hide! I was a bit reluctant to post his picture here, but figured it was safe with you fellas. Thanks again!!

This was a pure case of having more time than money. I needed to replace a face chord of wood I'd used up and these Cook county bandits wanted too much for me to buy it. My lady scored those cut rounds from a tree crew on her way back from getting us coffee one morning. I took one look and knew I couldn't split them manually with an axe. Just to be sure I tried it and proved to my shoulder what a bad idea it was. No one I know up here has a hydraulic splitter, so I checked rental rates. A day's rental on a splitter cost more than a load of wood delivered. That left me with a few tons of wood sitting in our parking lot that had to dealt with. I knew from experience what a bitch it was going to be chainsawing them into manageable wedges, but that was my final option. Once I'd been thru all that BS, finishing them off with an axe was the easy part. Getting to see my lady split some of those big tough-as-nails quarters on her first swings was almost worth the pain and misery of getting to that point.

Re your bird sniping off the deck: looks like y'all have no love for Starlings in Iowa either, huh?

I hate Starlings. These two must have been new to the neighborhood. I hit 'em hard every spring and hadn't seen any for several weeks. I think it's funny when you dump the first one and the other flies right in to check out his buddy. Big mistake.

It's a kick in the ass. But calling Crows is even more fun. As long as you dump the scout they'll keep sending one to see what's up at the caller and where Jimmy, Betty, and the rest of the scouts went. My personal record, while not even near bragging rights level, is 6 in one spot. That's dumping 2 outta the flock at the call, then they go roost and yell and scream while I turn up the caller, and 4 scouts that you can watch coming from 1/2 to 3/4's of a mile away. Too much fun. Crow in Distress and Crow and Owl works very very well up here.

That does sound like fun. Rare to see a crow around here. Turkey buzzards we got...(they're protected). Crows, not so much.

i missed a lot in here since yesterday, tucker for the win, great magazine cover...
mike, where the hell did you go to the movies and sit in a chair like that around here???
good job on the wood bogey, keep a eye on it, bitches will steal it
that is a hell of a sunset T...good job on those black birds

They have opened two new theaters over here in the last 6 months.
The closest is at I-75 and Gibsonton Rd.
The other is 301 and Bloomingdale real close to (lack of) Progress Blvd.
That's the one we went to because Stephanie's BF works there.
Honestly, I didn't think I would make it past the opening credits, but I did.

They call them "luxury loungers" around here. I will probably never sit in a normal movie theater seat again. A couple theaters are 100% loungers, while a few others have taken out a couple rows of seat right in the middle and replaced them with those. Costs a couple bucks more but worth it for sure.
