Coming up on 72 hours in the ED now and not responding to any treatment / medication, I think she is serious about checking out this time, she has not responded to or recognised us since the day before this episode. All support except pain relief to be withdrawn in a couple of hours. 2 1/2" ice ball floating in Wild Turkey tastes good at the moment.

Hang in there amigo. All you can do is be there for them to see them on to the next adventure where pain is no more.

Words are inadequate. Best to you. Strength to the wife. Peace to MiL. And second what Rthur said.

Awww, Barn, so sorry to hear that. If it must happen, hopefully it is as pain free as possible. Sorry you and Pam are going through this.

We have my MIL at home with us. 84 and in pretty good condition. Mind of a third grader though. The wife and I pick up and wash a lot of extra dirty dishes. Our favorite is always having to replace empty toilet paper rolls. The wife and I have learned to never go into one of our bathrooms without checking ahead of time to make sure there is a fresh/full roll somewhere within arms length :)

Take care Bud, you guys are in our prayers.

Started work on a smokehouse with a buddy of mine. We have a cook coming up that's going to require 2-300 pork butts.
Mother Nature tried to rain us out, so we just framed it up in his shop. The blocks will be dry-stacked in the beginning with an eye towards being able to break it down and trailer it to a location for friends' events.

It'll be 4x8' (exterior) and a bit over 7' at the high side of the shed roof. We're discussing direct (diffused) interior heat with a water pan along with an exterior fire box for cold smoking. What we come up with on that will determine exactly how many racks and their spacing. The goal is 200 butts in a cook, but BBQ math isn't exact and will be determined by how she actually behaves.

Our trial run will probably be a couple of whole hogs

So far we have zero dollars into it, using reclaimed materials and ripping down our own studs. We're cooking ribs today on the offset we built, and I'll be chipping mortar off of our salvaged blocks. Our podnuh with the used "tin" should be stoping by also.

It's gonna take several cooks to get it "right", but we'll have plenty of help disposing of the experiments

Take it easy my friend. The Mrs as well. I have been on both sides of this, with 3 of my grandparents, and many many times doing hospice work.
It is the greatest pain-free and diginified care a person can get at the end.
The nurse aids, nurses and docs who do that work tend to have hearts the size of Jupiter and will care for her wonderfully.

Prayers for all of you. The next place will be free of all the troubles we have here.

Thanks man, we'll see. I've had fleeting ideas in the past of doing a small smoke house for curing sausage and so forth but this thing is in a whole other league. I'll have a pretty good idea of whether or not I want to do a small one for myself once we've done some cooks on this thing

im going to be making one here after i finish up on the reloading room/ office...
its going to match the produce market, being log cabin siding like.
i cant waite for you guys to get it going, i will copy...

you do hospice work???
prayers to YOU, stud. good work

Oneshot,
I used to. Started college at 19 as a CNA doing a lot of hospice.
Did a lot a cardiac a neuro nurse, though it wasnt the only thing I did. Definently took most of those patients when I could because of the gift I was blessed with to do it.
Then I did adult and pediatric trauma for about a decade.

Still do, just in a less hands on roll, until the the worst of the worst rolls in.

I will take all prayers. I cope well and dont have PTS, always grateful for that.

Keep on hangin' on, Barney. This will pass, but that doesn't make the now any easier.

I got a message from our man @Veer_G asking if I was battened down for the storm.

I let him know that like any good southerner, I was heading to the bar.

Just don't drink any of that shit in the bottle in the center, beneath the light/behind the chain and you'll be fine :ROFLMAO:

And on a serious note, I wish ya'll well down there on this one. Stay dry Boyz.

Give ole Veer our regards and tell him not to waste this time. We expect that new home to be in good order and a full report upon his return.

I don't know what he supposedly did to get spanked. Was this like a B&E on Mile High or did he hack Frank's server?

In the mean time, my target drone lost contact with my phone again and 4 months later it sent this photo to my cloud server.

Just kidding, that's Saturn's mysterious hexagon.

Thanks for the support guys, Pam was with her at the end about four hours ago, I was at work and missed the end by ten minutes. Once we get through the next couple of weeks will get back to planning our trip, may even be able to buy some of you a beer or Bourbon. I will be having some tonight.
Life, like all good things must come to an end. Keep your spirits high.

Very sorry for the loss. The mat says, "WELCOME" here.

Sorry for your loss amigo. Cold Kilt Lifter and we’ll do it on tap cuz it’s best that way if ya happen to make her down to AZ. God bless Barney, give the misses a squeeze and let her know I wish her the same.

I have been told that LA, Vegas and San Francisco are none negotiable. Seeing as how we would fly in to LA I am thinking LA, Vegas, side trip back to AZ, Salt Lake City, Seattle area, Portland, Sacramento / San Francisco, back to LA. Would 3 -4 weeks be too rushed to cover that area by road?

That is do-able in 3-4 weeks. You'd need to make time between some of those destinations, but the scenery makes for great driving. When are you going?

Was supposed to leave here a couple of weeks ago to be over there for our wedding anniversary, timing is now open except for work commitments in January and the next couple of weeks . We always stay flexible when we travel, book accommodation as we need it rather than be locked in to an itinerary.

Cool. Late September into October is a great time for AZ, NV and UT. You certainly can see some cold fronts blow through but it's equally likely to see sunny and warm. Except Seattle, it rains there quite a bit. And you'll be too busy dealing with the loonies in San Fran to notice the weather. It's great you're making a swing through some of the desert country. Utah is mega diverse.

Now I really need to take a road trip!

Sorry for your loss Barn, prayers for her, you and Pam. Time helps the pain, but it never fully goes away.

You two should take your time.....is 2 weeks enough to get everything done and make the trip work ?

Damn buddy, outside of a stop or two on that itinerary you're going to be largely amongst the whacko leftists we bitch about here. Just don't judge "Americans" by the loons you encounter on the left coast.

I have an Aussie friend who's over for about 6 months seeing family in Canada and then traveling the States. His plan is to hit as many NASCAR races as possible on his way down to Texas. I gave him a similar warning about the Northeast.
