Maggie’s What's Your View II

Frustrating. Haven't had a Trash Panda issue for years, but have endured some scum sucking pos constantly tossing Beer Boxes and Beer Cans right around the place. They weren't peppering my yard with their shit, but in the ditch and along the road just before my place and after it. Never seen who was doing it but had a good idea. Pretty certain I was right because the idiots just up the road from me when they moved the amount of crap along the road fell off. They probably found it humorous to see me walking down the road with a large garbage bag picking up all their shit. What an eye sore and just an asshat move to do that crap.

Ok, nothing spectacular, but just a beautiful morning here in the PNW. Not sure if it's a minus tide or global warming, but the Oyster Beds in the Willapa Bay are showing in a big way. Tokeland in the background.

5 mins North of the Oyster Beds this is looking over the Willapa River that dumps into the Bay where the Beds are. The fog is hanging on the River only for about a 4 mile stretch. Weird when that happens. Looks nice from off the water but when you know it's a beautiful day just to the left, right, and above you and can't see crap from being surrounded in fog is a bummer. Especially when there's a ton of fishing boats on the water with people not familiar with the area Salmon fishing and cutting people off. It's combat fishing at it's worst.

It just is. If you can take the rain it's a great place. When it's nice, it's really nice. Rest of the time, meh. We take what we get. ;)

Similar to here. If you can stand the heat, humidity, bugs, wind, bitter cold, blizzards, tornadoes, freezing rain, did I mention wind, hail, etc...it ain't bad ;)

I hear ya Mr. Nichols. We take what we get, bitch about most of it, and literally weather it till those 4 good days of the year. :p

This evening being one. Not a lot of color in the sky, but the contrast looks nice nonetheless. ;)

And just for clarity, the bottom pic is looking left (west) of the top pic. Not 15 seconds apart.

What a scorcher on the Lower Columbia today. Got back a bit ago from Astoria from the 1st official PT on the shoulder. Not a pleasant experience, but I can already see the benefit of it. It's right at 90 and suppose to be 100 tomorrow. Crap! Thought I'd put some more Bridge and Water pics for ya. Again, nothing special but works for me. ;) Water's like glass. That won't last long either.

Saddle Mountain in the background looking at Astoria from the Washington side near Dismal Nitch aka the old Columbia River Quarantine Station. Pretty soon you'll barely be able to see the water for the Boats............. Come on Salmon Season, again.

I'll take Milk Jugs for (at) 1000, Alex.

Not my best day, but rather than just shoot steel, I had the thought to throw up a couple milk jugs @ 1000 and see how many shots it took to bust 'em. Winds were light, but not consistent. I was shooting 6.5 CM, Hornady 147 ELDM factory ammo. I took the first shot at the IPSC to test my wind call. Very light wind from left-to-right, with 0.4 mil Left dialed, the impact (second from top) was 0.1 mil High and 0.15 mil Left. I moved over to the right jug, held just a bit right and low, fired one shot and terminated it. Alright! Moved to the second jug on the left and fired - missed. Fired a second time - saw water fly from the neck of the jug, but it didn't bust. Fired the third attempt and missed. Wind had definitely shifted a bit from 10:00 to more of a tailwind. I dialed back to 0.2 mil Left and took another sighter on the IPSC, that's the top impact, high-center. Moved back to that second jug again, holding low-center, fired one shot and terminated it. So, not counting the sighters, I fired 5 rounds between the two jugs, and scored three hits (one was a high hit on the neck, when I saw the water fly). Not too bad, I guess.

However, there was a third jug, but because the hay is getting tall, I could barely see it through the grass. I took three pokes at it, but couldn't connect. I'm not sure if the bullet was able to drop in over the grass in the line of sight, or if it was going through it and getting deflected, so I gave up on it. The other two low-left impacts on the IPSC target were taken later on in the afternoon when the wind had changed again. Not awesome shooting, but a fun afternoon anyway.

Very cool and not bad at all. Not a gimme by any means. Box blind to the back right?

The pics just don't do it justice, but on the way home yesterday this was just an amazing view. Watching the Sea influence coming over the Naselle Ridge like dry ice and pouring down the draws between ridges was awesome. Looked so surreal. Wish I woulda just pulled over and video'd it for a bit. Won't be seeing that again soon I'm sure. Thermals and temperature was just right.

It was literally just pouring over the top of the ridge like a waterfall and filling up the draws. So damn cool.

It takes forever for my phone to synch photos with my pad, so these are from Saturday.

My lady and and I headed out for some late afternoon time in the woods and a little fishing. I caught a fun little bass on topwater, but not much action on the day for me. On the way out of the woods we walked up on a doe chewing her cud, completely unconcerned about us. I literally had to walk up to her and tell her to move. It was silly, having a face off with a deer refusing to let me pass on the trail. She eventually stepped a pace or two off the trail to let me pass, but I could've grabbed her if I were so inclined.

IMG_1597.JPG

I got a LOT closer than that picture, but by then I didn't want to be staring at my phone like an idiot if she took exception to my intrusion.

I met a nice old gent on the way out who shared some local fishing tips, which is always nice.

Then I get home from a wonderful evening to be reminded of why I'm leaving this fucking place:

IMG_1598.JPG

A few minutes before I got home, 2 gangbangers decided to trade shots directly in front of my apartment. The POlice were still screaming up as I was pulling in to park. Had it not been for the stubborn deer and nice old gent, we'd have been pulling up as the shoot out was happening.

That's cray cray Bogey. I expect to see her follow up pics in the Nom Nom Nom. I don't know how anyone can live in a place like that. Well, yes I do, I jut choose to not have ANYTHING to do with it. Incredible. I guess I just hate people.

I just got the last details sorted and I'll be moving back to AL in the second half of July. I'll say that I've made met some great folks up here, but between 4yrs in Afgh and 3 in Chicago my southern ass has been gone way too long.

In fact, if it doesn't violate forum etiquette, I may post a "I need a job" thread in The Pit.

DO IT !! You know as well as I do you will not want to want for long. This place is infamous for hooking people up. And you know that. Best of luck to ya Brother. Freedom Flight awaits.

Thanks buddy, it'll be a lot more interesting than a "Freedom Flight". I've got a convoy of midwesterners hauling my shit down south with me in exchange for some great seafood and BBQ. Two of them want to shop for houses in my neighborhood. I told them they're more than welcome to be my neighbors as soon as they register as Republicans.

Not a lush as Tucker's pond but the climate is a bit different here in Australia, a mates property about an hours drive away. The dam is stocked with Rainbow Trout and Yabbies. Also get to shoot a few Foxes.

Man that's purty.

I'd have to completely adjust my cook times for crawfish that big, but it's a challenge I'd definitely enjoy. Several of my Aussie friends have tried to explain how your "prawns" and "crayfish" differ from the American understanding of those animals. I think that's the first good picture I've seen showing some of the differences.

I'm in the last week of softball/baseball hell (games EVERY night except Sunday) so I've been crazy busy. Had just a minute to share this, so here goes. Saw something brown in the fence line Sunday adjacent to our pistol range. Walked down there to find this. Only 70 yards from the house. Fortunately, it got up later in the evening and walked back into the timber where it belongs.
