I'll take Milk Jugs for (at) 1000, Alex.
Not my best day, but rather than just shoot steel, I had the thought to throw up a couple milk jugs @ 1000 and see how many shots it took to bust 'em. Winds were light, but not consistent. I was shooting 6.5 CM, Hornady 147 ELDM factory ammo. I took the first shot at the IPSC to test my wind call. Very light wind from left-to-right, with 0.4 mil Left dialed, the impact (second from top) was 0.1 mil High and 0.15 mil Left. I moved over to the right jug, held just a bit right and low, fired one shot and terminated it. Alright! Moved to the second jug on the left and fired - missed. Fired a second time - saw water fly from the neck of the jug, but it didn't bust. Fired the third attempt and missed. Wind had definitely shifted a bit from 10:00 to more of a tailwind. I dialed back to 0.2 mil Left and took another sighter on the IPSC, that's the top impact, high-center. Moved back to that second jug again, holding low-center, fired one shot and terminated it. So, not counting the sighters, I fired 5 rounds between the two jugs, and scored three hits (one was a high hit on the neck, when I saw the water fly). Not too bad, I guess.
However, there was a third jug, but because the hay is getting tall, I could barely see it through the grass. I took three pokes at it, but couldn't connect. I'm not sure if the bullet was able to drop in over the grass in the line of sight, or if it was going through it and getting deflected, so I gave up on it. The other two low-left impacts on the IPSC target were taken later on in the afternoon when the wind had changed again. Not awesome shooting, but a fun afternoon anyway.
