Maggie’s What's Your View II

Is that beautiful or what? And look at that water !! I'm really beginning to miss it down there. What a great day, minus the speckled trout. I've never fished that far North Mike. What's the average depth around there?

The average depth of Tampa Bay is around 12.5 feet.
The shipping channel shows a max of right at 49'

The spot where the photos were taken is 6.5' and is a couple feet deeper than the rest of that flat.
The wreck/reef is in 21' at high tide. It shows 7.5' on top of the wreck.
Low tide is usually 1-1.5' shallower.

Get this, the water temp in the open areas is 90-91.6 degrees. I didn't even bother to look when we hit the creek on the return trip.
Bait balls are everywhere right now and it's an awesome show when the predatory fish show up.

good job stud, watch the lightning with these storms the way they have been popping up...
are you going scalloping this year?

Been thinking about it, but I'll have to get my buddy Jim to take his boat too.
Mine is only rated for three, even though it's 17.5 long.
Have you been this year?

Yesterday was gorgeous until it hit 95*. No wind to speak of until about 3pm, so it got really hot.

You probably noticed the line of clouds forming after noon. They stayed good and white the entire time we were on the water.
Once it got really hot, we pulled up stakes and took a ride up the river to Rick's.

It would have been a great day to do some long range shooting at Manatee.
No wind, and lots of mirage...

Im on a pilgrimage visiting my MawMaw. She turned 95 yesterday (on the 4th). During conversation she mentioned a huge gun store that had just opened a few blocks from her house. I go investigate and what do I find.

I figured that that since they were nice enough to send me a daily email, the least I could do was stop in and say howdy.

More pics later after my visit, but I'm having a BLAST on this trip.

HAPPY 95th MawMaw !!! Hope she's in great health Bogey. That's awesome.

And then you find Utopia. You lucky Bastard. :p

Thanks buddy. I think I'll end up doing a thread in The Pit on this trip, but it's been one of the best of my life (and I've traveled a LOT)

Y'all may remember me mentioning "my" girls: my nieces from my half-sister. Here we are in front of the store. My lady was laughing her ass off because I was grinning like a jackass eating briars. When she took that pic I was telling them that this was like an Elvis fan stumbling across Graceland.

July 4th and the Cute Little Red Haired Girl

We'd done fireworks Saturday night, and I thought I had nothing to do and nowhere to be Tuesday. The weather was threatening, and that was excuse enough to not get out there and start anything I couldn't finish.

Then I got a text, from Katie.

Katie is a talented local musician and songwriter, and that's for starters.

She also works (or did) at the Christian school that I do computer work for. She teaches pre-school, music, and specializes with special needs children. She literally changed the lives of some friends who have an Autistic son. She broke down walls with the boy and got him to open up through music. She wrote a song about and performed it at a fundraiser concert for a local Autism support group.
She also teaches music in after school programs associated with a local dance school. The kid is 24.

She is a beacon of hope for what we typically think of her generation, the dreaded millennials.

Earlier this year I learned that Katie is leaving the community that loves her endlessly, and will be moving to Nashville, to take a shot a dream.

A buddy of mine said he was in Nashville, and the dishwasher next to him was a better guitar player than Hendrix.
But hey, kids and their dreams. I'm not so old that I can't remember how it felt. I hope I never get that old.

So back to the text.

Katie is frantically packing and preparing to move to Nashville Friday. Her car's in the shop because a local deer decided she shouldn't go. And now her laptop is acting stupid. Can I please help? (with profound apologies for bothering me on a holiday).

What am I supposed to say?

So we make plans, Mrs. T and I, to not spend the day relaxing, and to drive to our hometown (not far), visit the folks, and get Katie's laptop.

We had a nice lunch at Applebees, made our visits, and picked up the laptop, then headed home.

It was a simple fix. Overheating due to red hair and dust bunnies in the ventilation system of what's an inherently warm running model to begin with. So a little bit of cleanup and some tweaks and updates to get the most performance possible from the older and underpowered system, and it was ready for Nashville.

I took her laptop back to her this morning before I started my workday.

Had it closed up when I handed it to her.

She asked how much she owed me. I said, "Go and be you. They're gonna love you as much as we do"., and I gave her a hug and said goodbye. Told her if she needed anything to just call.

Oops.... I may have left something inside that closed lid.

Tucker I know it is long distance but anything I can do to advise or help with car repairs I would be happy to do. Many mechanics here probably, but FYI been my chosen career for 31 years.

Good luck on your trip Bogey. My hope for you is that you get to go back to stay sooner than later. Enjoy your family!

Beautiful scenery as usual man! Good stuff. We're all very fortunate, each in our own ways.

2A, That's a very generous offer. She had the car in a body shop yesterday AM, and they were rushing it for her to still be able to leave by Friday.
1J, She did some work with Riley when he was younger, but the Autistic kid was more recent.

I was at the school one day not too long ago, working in the Administrator's office, when one of the teachers came by with the Autistic boy. I usually try to act like I'm not there when working, so I was largely ignoring them when he suddenly broke away from the teacher and ran over to where I was and hugged me like I was a long lost friend. I hugged him back and said, "Hey buddy. How are you doing?"
The admin and teacher were floored by his actions. The admin told me after they left that he NEVER does that, with anyone. She had no explanation.
I had been around that kid, now 7 years old, when he was maybe 3?
I'd had no interaction to speak of with him since then. I don't know if he remembered me or was interested in computers or what. I think Autism is like having the radio stuck between two stations.

There's nothing better than having an 'impact' on peoples lives. And I really mean that, in a positive way. Sometimes we don't even really know to what depth we touch someone when we're just being a normal human being having a normal interaction and being ourselves doing 'the right thing'. We could start a whole new thread on something like this I'm sure. Ya know how that one "Ah Shit" moment can negate 1,000 "Atta Boys"? Well, sometimes in this negative environment we trudge through day to day, an encounter like yours is one of those "Atta Boys" that negates some of the negativity we live in.

Feel good story of the Day. Thanks for sharing with us Tucker.......

And of course, some more beautiful pics Gentlemen. TY

And now, if I may be so "Vain", I'd like to share some photos......... ;)

Nothing special, but as I was arriving at the house after work Tuesday I was greeted by some Blacktail's out in the open field. We don't see that very often for 2 reasons. 1 because they HATE the open fields. 2 uhm, I forget......

Then this morning caught 2 Bucks trying to get across the road from the River back to the Timber. Everyone's been seeing a lot of Bucks this year running around even though our Deer numbers are down. Looks promising.

And for oneshot, got the Mobile Dimensional out and ready to move across the street from my place to take care of the growing cold deck of assorted saw logs. Had to get it off the pad area anyhow where the Pole Building is going up.

Great trip, BB. Someone gave me one of those Yeti coozies for Christmas two years ago, and it really works better than any I've ever seen or tried - incredible. Yours is powder coated, or something? Mine is in natural-finish, brushed stainless.

Been there, done that. Been playing since I was 12. Went straight to Nash Vegas right out of Vet School. Your buddy is spot on. The people who "make it" aren't the "best" by a long shot. For every one of the stars you can name, there's a dishwasher somewhere there that has more talent and skill. Back then the record companies still controlled everything. The ones that made it were the ones that the record company execs saw as the most MARKETABLE, not the "best". Today, with social media and high-quality recording gear affordable for home use, things have changed and it is all about self-promotion (but still, marketability is the deciding factor). I had a little success, and accomplished some things that I'm still proud of up there, but in the end I saw it was not going to be quick or easy, and I had a newly-minted degree and career waiting.

What you did for that girl was awesome!

I saw this yesterday afternoon at the end of my session, and on the way downrange to re-paint the targets. Not particularly "stunning," or anything, but I thought it was unusual

No, I'd say it "IS" particularly stunning, but then again I'm easily entertained. :p What an unusual formation sans weapons detonation. Mr. Nichols could probably explain this fairly well but all I know is it's awesome looking. I'll bet over the next few minutes it got pretty impressive. Great shot.

Heck, I ain't no weather man :). I would say it's caused by the sun setting behind that cumulous build, casting it's shadow up into that high thin cirrus. It is unique and cool!

Beautiful country out there 1J04. SO much different than Hooterville.

Thanks buddy, it is beautiful. And WET, DAM WET !! But it's also green. ;) And some really beautiful terrain. This looks a tad like around your place down here in the Valley, but that's not Corn. And ya gotta cover up the Hills with your hand. :p Other than that, looks kinda close. It's actually why I took the pic. lmao

JcqFVah.jpg

As a kid growing up here, the old timers wanted their corn "knee high by the 4th of July". I painted my last target right around the July 1 give or take, and it was 6'+. It's about 2 weeks behind where we were last year at this time. Enough of this corn monkey business, back to "What's Your View II"

I hate power lines getting in the middle of something pretty.

VZlXjVr.jpg

Awesome! I wasn't able to get a position that would capture the full spectacle without having the power line in it. Thanks!

On the other hand, those very power lines are beautiful come dove season, as they run right through where we plant our dove field (which is where I was when I took the pic).

Well, you couldn't be any worse than the "weather liars" we get briefings from!

I agree with your analysis, but there is also another layer of cumulus with a "hole" in it between the sun and the one in the foreground, so the sunlight is actually back-lighting the one in the foreground through an "aperture" in the one behind it, which is creating the burst effect. I'm sure that has something to do with it, but I still haven't quite figured out how a sunburst casts a "shadow" on the cirrus above it. By the way, that "cumulus" turned cumulonimbus about 5 or 10 minutes later.

Yep. It seems Tucker is even more OCD than I am, and removed them for me. Looks like he might have enhanced the color just a bit, too, which makes it look more like it did in person.

First I've seen of that.
Fuckbucket will get some correspondence.

Look further down in the Bear Pit, there's a thread on it. Photobucket has gone to a paid-service for doing 3rd party hosting so that you can post your pics from there onto another site. Don't worry, though. It's only 400.00 a year for that service now!! Unfortunately, your strongly-worded letter will go unread by human eyes as mine did.

The great news is that, now we're back from the Scout debacle, we can once again post pics direct from your computer. It's easier, quicker, and you don't even need the Bucket. I didn't even realize that until this happened and tnichols walked me through it. The "paper clip" Attachment icon on the top right of the posting window will get you an option that pops up below where you type to either Upload Attachment direct from you computer, or Upload from URL like PB.

Good to know.
Fixed the above.
