Planers are downstream from the "Chip n Saw" and the saws that cut to semi-rough dimensions. They first go through the Chip n Saws (some know them as "double length infeeds") which is where they take the de-barked logs, scan them, computer optimize the cuts and run them horizontally through a system of chippers and bandmills to square up the logs and cut to rough dimensions. Then, they go through another set of saws that cut to semi-rough dimensions, then onto the planers for final dimensioning. All of those saws create chips. With technology, the feed speeds are carefully calculated/adjusted to optimize chip size. Pulp/paper mills pay a premium for consistent sized chips. There really isn't any waste that comes from lumber mills anymore, everything gets used/is worth money.

I heard a grain bit blow once from 8 blocks away, inside the house.
We lived in a small town with a couple big grain elevators.
One bin about 1/2 full of corn popped one night. Blew the train beside it way off the tracks.
The bin was 120 foot diameter with about 40 foot vertical walls and then a significant sloped top.
We went and used the cement base to skate and ride bikes after it was cleaned up and before the new one was put in.

Wait till you hit 50, whippersnapper........the wheels start falling off a lot more frequently. You’ll end up looking forward to nice restful stays in the hospital, complete with demerol hits.
That's truth right there. I'm having a bad night. One day I feel like I want to put off my neck surgery. Nights like tonight, the sooner the better. Can't even stand to wear my hat tonight, and here I am hobbling around a fargin belt filter press trying to train my new crew.
Don't think I mentioned that this week. Got back from the keys, my fellow Lead operator, started texting me about AR pistol building, which was...."unusual behavior".
I asked him what was really going on. He told me to check my company email. At that point it became clear what he was up to. Everyone knows the quickest way to get cussed the F out, is to contact me about "work" when I am officially on vacation.
Long story short they played musical chairs with my 5 person crew while I was gone. I now have 4, one so green he's shitting yellow, and the one person I needed rid of, I still have!
I threw a Butch from Pulp Fiction "fuck fit". I told my boss if she was still my problem in February, she would be someone else's problem, it's nearly June. This is the first time in my life, I haven't carried through my threat.
Tomorrow is my first staff meeting since the 24th of April. I know staff changes are coming, but I'm going to let my boss know he still isn't off the hook. He fucking "asked" her if she wanted to move to day shift. You don't ask an employee that has been wrote up, and resides on permanent probation, a single fucking thing you TELL them.
I'm hurting, I'm stressed. I'm pissed. I'm tired.
The morning meeting is gonna be sporty if I don't get some damn good answers to some pointed questions.
I hate being stretched over a barrel because I'm in a compromising position.
Hey Gramps, you know we dont really use Demerol “hits” any more except for post-op shivering and you wouldnt be with it enough to enjoy it.

Hah! That’s exactly what happened to me (P/O shivering). And yes, it was quite enjoyable. It’s a good thing it’s virtually impossible for one to get their hands on it......

Years back I busted my leg back country skiing. Over 3 miles from the car. On the way out (skiing) took a couple old expired 5mg Oxycodone tabs from a ski injury (smashed face) 2-3 yrs prior, figuring it might hurt a lot and between that and not being able to call for help until at car that it would be a while until I got to the hospital (took 6-7 hrs).
My world was spinning so bad it wasnt worth it.
Pain before wasnt fun but I could deal with it.
Took no more after that. Just motrin and beers.
ETA: had to wait at the car for help to drive to ER because I had a manual transmission and the fx was in my boot. I did not think I could get the boot off myself without displacing the fracture a lot.
Fun stuff! ?

I agree with you when it comes to Oxy, Hydro and Dilaudid.......Not enough upside and plenty of downside.
Went around the pond with the fly rod yesterday afternoon. I lost count. 20 or more. No really big ones, but I was just swinging a little bream popper too. A lot of fun!

Yeah.....that staff meeting was a doozy. My boss used a buzzword that he had been warned numerous times, was grating on my last nerve. He had the audacity to suggest I "put my foot" in miss Trouble's back......

I advised him that I had already put her head in the "Lion's mouth" 3 times, and HE(my boss) had NOT had my back. The last time HR had literally said "what are we doing here? Why aren't we firing her?" He crawfished then as well.
Didn't hardly sleep at all today. I'm still seething. I think I'll wait on him in the morning and Duke it out with him(not physically, but I'm sure I could take him). I ain't done speaking my mind, and a phone call is NOT how I handle situations like this.

Beware of fighting and losing the good fight to a dirtbag. Principles mean very little in business anymore. I'd ask if your principles are worth more than your job, but I already know your answer. That's good.

My boss didn't like firing people and asked me to do it for him.
I told him I would do it since he was such a chicken shit (my actual words to him).
I also told him if I fired that guy, I would have hiring/firing rights.
In seven months I got rid of five people he hired.
Only one guy I hired went down the road. Not because of his work ethic or quality, just due to him extending a leave of absence for over an extra 30 days without contacting us.
If you have permission to send her down the road, exercise your rights and don't consult him. Just keep good documentation of the issues you've had with her.

I stopped by HR on my way out this AM. I needed to check on these medical bills to make sure they were legit( oh yeah...they are, thanks Obama).
In an "oh by the way manner" I asked our benefits rep: "So to retire, I gotta submit my papers 3 months in advance?"
"You have 30 years in the state system?"
"Yep."
"You can call me tomorrow morning and tell me you retire today, and you'll get your check in about a month."

I’m gone literally 26 hours (gotta pay the bills ya know) and in my absence the Grackles called all their deadbeat relatives and said come on over. I get home this afternoon at 1500 and within 30 minutes this is my take from the kitchen window and deck slider. Good barricade type practice.

When I get both knees replaced soon, I might feel like 50 again. 65 tomorrow and really starting to feel it.
Don’t put it off Mate. They don’t heal themselves and they just hurt worse over time. That’s the way it was with my hips anyway......
(OBTW, fake the “shivers” in post op. They’ll have a nice treat of “vitamin D” for you. Absolutely dreamy).
Not me putting it off mate, the surgeon who has repaired them several times advised waiting but I feel the time has come. Will make another appointment soon.
