Maggie’s What's Your View II

PS. Those boxes are valuable as is for people who collect WW2 .45's.

Cheers,

Sirhr

I knew you'd know. So that makes me pretty smart also, right? :geek::unsure:

Appreciate the info my friend !! And yes, I'm finding out as I peruse "Collector Ammo" info that I just may have one hell of a treasure trove. Got a little bit of research to do. So far I can't find the pink boxes, but I did find some Frankford Arsenal that looks similar.

Well now, it appears this is from 1917 during WW1 and going for around $125 a Box. And yes, all of mine are full. :p That's pretty awesome.........

No. 1 WORLD WAR ONE WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMSCOMPANY US ARMY ISSUE .45 CALIBER ACP AMMUNITION PACKETS – FULL PACKETS - CARTRIDGES HEADSTAMPED 1917: Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company at the point the United States entered World War One, these packets were produced under contract to meet the anticipated need for ammunition by our soldiers in Europe. Winchester produced packets are very desirable and are one of the more difficult packets to find.

Examples of these .45 ACP cartridge packets from World War One survive in very low numbers today and have all but disappeared from the collectors' market.

These three packets have identical labels with the same loading data, indicating they all came out of the same production run. One packet is open to the point that the cartridge headstamp can be seen - "W 17" - indicating the cartridges were manufactured by the Winchester Company in 1917. As the other packets have the identical label data, it is safe to assume all three packets contains the same "W 17" headstamped cartridges.

No. 1A WWI WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS COMPANY US ARMY ISSUE .45 CALIBER ACP AMMUNITION PACKET – FULL UNOPENED PACKET: This full unopened packet retains a very good, legible label, “20 Pistol Ball Cartridges, CAL. .45 MODEL OF 1911”. There is some very minor wear to one spot on the bottom edge of the label, but it does not affect the printing in any way. The packet is full form and both of the cloth pull tabs are present and intact. There is some minor storage soiling on the bottom panel of the packet, but the rest of the packet is clean. Containing "W 17" headstamped cartridges, this is a scarce packet in excellent condition to add to your display. (0129) $125

No. 1B WWI WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS COMPANY US ARMY ISSUE .45 CALIBER ACP AMMUNITION PACKET – FULL UNOPENED PACKET: This full unopened packet retains a very good, legible label, “20 Pistol Ball Cartridges, CAL. .45 MODEL OF 1911”. There is no wear to label, but the top panel on the left end has been lifted slightly, probably by a previous owner who wanted to view the cartridges. This minor separation does not affect the label or the integrity of the packet in any way. The packet is full form, both of the cloth pull tabs are present and intact, and the packet is very clean. Containing "W 17" headstamped cartridges, this is a scarce packet in excellent condition to add to your display. (0130) $125

No. 1C WWI WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS COMPANY US ARMY ISSUE .45 CALIBER ACP AMMUNITION PACKET – FULL PACKET: This full unopened packet retains a very good, legible label, “20 Pistol Ball Cartridges, CAL. .45 MODEL OF 1911”. This packet has not been opened, but the top panel on the right end has been lifted for approximately half the length of the packet, probably by a previous owner who wanted to view the cartridges. There is some minor wear to the label on the far right end, but none of the printing on the label is affected in any way. The packet is full form and both of the cloth pull tabs are present and intact. The top panel has some storage soiling but the rest of the packet is clean and fully intact. I think that was the first Heinlein novel I read. Then I read everything else....

BTW: All you whipper-snappers need to read the Startship Troopers novella... VERY good... and somewhat timely. (The movies were crap.)
I have, so far as I can tell, his complete works. Gotta love used book stores.

Fair was fun but this stuff is way more fun.
This is a yearly shoot that a couple buddy’s put on. Hand full of class 3 weapons dealer here with some fun toys.
The 1919 was converted to 308. With the stubby barrel that thing is crazy loud.

My view was kinda sad yesterday. I tore down my kids tree house. I’ve had it for almost 20 years. My kids have spent many days playing in it, by themselves, and with friends. My daughter, whose now 18, would still go up there occasionally, for a little alone time. But she leaves Monday to go to college. ?

Yesterday was made a little better, because Mudbugs Hockey preseason started yesterday afternoon, with a scrimmage game, and a couple preseason games next weekend.

View around here should improve in a few hours when the hot tub is delivered and installed. Got the tv mounted, just need to make a platform now to get the bar fridge to a place I can reach. Might also need to add some outdoor heating and furniture to the area, overnight temps have been getting close to freezing here lately but should start to rise again soon. Pics in a few hours.....

Unpacked and cleaned up a couple old Fly Rods. I remember fishing Trout on some Streams with Dad in Northern CA around some old Gold Mines.

The one with the Reel is Metal. The Reel winds up and the you have a retrieve button and a drag. Still has a leader tied to the line my Dad tied. Rest his soul. Reels aren't worth more than maybe $15 Bucks, but means the world to me. Great memories hiking in with him and fishing and exploring the mines in the 60's. Dad would take off and Pan Gold with orders not to catch the Red Dogs/Salamander 's. ? He hated having to take'm off for me cause I'd end up killing the damn things. DON'T KILL THE RED DOGS SON! ?

The other is made from Bamboo, I think. Not really certain. Beautiful piece and it was in the Metal Tube with Brass ends and a beautiful maroon felt/cloth sack. Shoulda gotta pic. Maybe when I get home.

Gonna display them in the Reloading Room.?

Amen brother!

Keep your Dad's things visible and in your heart.

I have my Grandpa's old Marlin/Winchester 97 hanging on the wall. I also have Dad's long bow hung up and a pic of dad over my loading bench.

They bring back great memories.

Exactly Mike. I'm at that stage where I know NOBODY will appreciate a lot of what I grew up with more than I, and I love looking at it, so out it comes........

I've got some pretty cool stuff handed down from my Grandfathers, Mom and Dads, that I doubt will be coming out for display. Some of them aren't $15 Dollars. :ROFLMAO:

It's been a long winter and summer, lot's going on in our lives. After 3 days of crappy wet weather the day dawned bright and sunny. About 7:00 PM decided to take the AI .308 out and shoot some distance. The first stop was the 1050 yard gravel pile but there was a herd of beeves just a little to close for comfort. Headed a mile NW to the Grain Bin rocks, 717 and 907 yards. Got all set up....

... an realized I'd forgotten the tool bag of shooting bags. Old school sand in a sock tonite, still works just fine. Started with 717 rock, 5.4 mils up no wind. High and left, down .4 and R .5, solid hits for 8 rds. Moved to the 907 rock, up 8.3 added .2 right wind, spot on.

P8280489.JPG

On the left side under the tree is the 717 rock, on the right just to the right of the second to last tree is 907. What you don't see is a the 6 -8" rocks that litter the berm. Spent 20 rounds dancing around them, even dislodging a few. All this is 5 minutes from my front door.
Happiness is a pile of empty brass.....

The last week has been a tough one. On Wednesday the 21st our youngest daughter called, her husband had been admitted to Sanford hospital palliative care. His two year struggle with brain cancer was coming to a end. We went and, along with his family members and good friends sat with the two of them until he passed at 10:50 PM the 24th. Service is this Friday, hopefully the healing can begin, for our girl it's going to be a long road.

On a much better and brighter note, this Friday The Child Bride will start the second, and last, course of preventative chemo to treat a strain of non-hodgkin's lymphoma called Burkitts. We are hoping and praying by the middle of next month we will hear the "remission" word. It's been a long 8 month journey to get to this point but our future does look better.

One last comment before I ramble off for a Bud and a book. Men, if you love them, tell them and tell them often. Hugs are free and should be dispensed as often as possible. Life can be sudden and frightening, each day is a gift.

Fine'.

Wow brother. Thats a a lot of hard times going on at once.

We will pray for all of you. For health and healing.

Great statement. Tell em you love em every day, several times.
Momma hears it first thing and last thing everyday, as do the kids.

Take care sir

Thank you sir, we are taking care. I've not talked about this online at all, my stoic German/Scot bloodline likes to keep things inside until there's a resolution.

One thing I forgot to mention, if you look closely at photo #2, at the bottom of that low spot in the stubble one will see small black specks. These were some Canadian honkers that were feeding. They were still there when I left. Shot right over them.

@sandwarrior Snakes as promised.

Son killed this one on his way to go fishing yesterday afternoon. 1.25oz of #5 did a number on him. No head, no fangs to worry about. A really pretty snake, but had to go...
snake 1.jpg

He took a phone and not a radio. I couldn't get him on the phone (service sucks here), so headed to check on him. On the way back I see this big bitch about 75 yrds from the one he killed. 230gr golddots are not as dramatic as a 12ga, but works good enough.

snake 2.jpg

Son likes to keep the rattlers. He did flinch a little when the blade touched muscle and the snake started jerking (head was pinned down...). He was a little pissed I wouldn't let skin the pretty one out. If it weren't a school night I would have.

Damn rattlers!

Damn rattlers!
Should have tossed him in the fridge. They skin just fine when they’re cold

Don't have my son this weekend.
Got up at 8. Shot a box out of the 22 ate breakfast. Went fishing at the pond no luck. Walked the 80 picking up anything they hit when cutting hay. Sprayed the brush on the pond dam. Sprayed the weeds in the yard. 4.5 4 gallon backpack sprayers.
Hand dug a 18in by 4 to 12in deep ditch 25 yards long along the drive way to help with run off. Lunch at 4.
Shoot my dads AR. 100 180 and 275 yards.
