Maggie’s What's Your View II

I have been working on some new computers about all day. Then a neighbor came over to help me load a picnic table I'm donating to a school tomorrow.
I wasn't really hunting, but I always look out the windows when the sun starts going down. I'd just finished a cold one and made my way to the kitchen to dispose of the empty when I noticed something I haven't been seeing outside.
I've had deer out there every day, but no shooter bucks.
This was a shooter buck.
So I shot him.
He was facing me nearly straight on with his head down.
I didn't get the ideal shot, so he went about 70 yards before piling up.
168 smk went in just left between the shoulders and blew a massive hole out through the first three ribs on the left side.

Beautiful Buck you lucky bastard! Tell me you were wearing your leather house slippers with the fur inside them. TELL ME!

Took care of a little Christmas business today.

I had a picnic table that I donated to a school for special needs kids.
The school is in the same nearby town as my buddy's distillery.
I had contracted him to make a couple of turkey calls for some energetic little country boys from a good family out in Oregon.

Yeah, he makes moonshine and turkey calls. Damned good at both too!
He used to be a game warden, but he was too kind hearted and would let people who made honest mistakes go too often.

Robert had been up since 5 AM, starting his day getting some of the mountain boys who had come down the hill to bear hunt with the hounds straight on where and where not to go in the unfamiliar woods.

Then he smoked some shoulders and chickens and put gether 55 plates as a catering run to a construction crew who's building the new solar farm just outside of town.
I caught up with when he was leaving to take the food. he told me to go inside and hang out and have some barbecue, and he'd be back to finish up them calls in a little bit. So that's what I did.

He was 8 hours into his day at lunchtime and was nowhere near caught up, but he sat down and personalized these calls and wrote notes to the boys to make it all extra special. Then he messed with the calls to make sure they had a sweet spot or two.

The moonshining is in his blood. He grew up with it the way some of us grew up with baseball or shooting. It's just part of his family history.
He also makes a damned good barbecue. I'd eaten most of that before I decided to get a picture of it. Then I ate the rest of it. Then I got seconds.

Some of this will be familiar if you watch "Moonshiners" on Discovery.
I believe his episode was called The Return of Tickle.

Just another damned good man.

Getting nasty up here in these parts. Mooses hangout got shut down for good and my old place on the Grays River is hammered with flooding.

The Stilly is s'posed to crest tonight about 10:30 PM, +14.5 feet. Forecasting up to 6" of rain tomorrow. Longtime residents know to just stay home, we'll be fine. Got my Bartlein blank today, will spend the day in the garage tomorrow. It'll all work out fine.

I hope like hell they do and win. The Cook I told you about earlier on the text said they woke to find their hallway flooded. Guess why? Because the culvert in front of their place was plugged!
I hope they win too. I know the road crew supervisor, nice guy but I think a monkey could do a better job.
The guys I work with at the state are always trapping beavers and cleaning the culverts so the highways do give way.

Beavers in the drains ? For real ?

Hadn't ever considered that.

Oh ya. Plug'm all the time.

Same problem in Alabama. County residents get pissy when a 12 gauge goes off, solving the problem, oh no, not allowed. Have to bring in trapper and a couple bleeding hearts have tripped the traps so the poor animals arent hurt. So, trackhoe has to visit.. for the outside part, it's a bitch clearing the culvert under the road in the summer due to the big water worms.
Glad that's not my job, but I might have been seen with buckshot and ..... in the area....
Damn beaver....

the cold one is always my dang feet!

A few years back a friend gave me a pair of Arctic Shield (<---the brand name) boot covers. Sitting in a tree stand in single digits with a sub zero wind chill and my feet were hurting. I put the boot covers on and in a short time my feet were warm again. They are not for walking around but work great in a stand.

I don't have any financial interest in the company.

Santa has been very, very good to me today... :)

@1J04

Jimmy, I’m absolutely Gobsmacked.......

i received everything today, I’m grateful beyond words. Everything is beautiful. My intent is to get out onto the Stilly for Steelhead and be wearing my Salmon colored tocque every time. I’m taking it on vacation and you’ll be seeing more cameos of my modelling prowess when we’re in the mountains over there ?

Thank you and PLEASE Thank your beautiful Wife for me (actually, Mrs threadcutter too and me......she stole the green one from me). I had her come out to the man cave and snap this pic. We both had tears running down our cheeks, we’re so grateful at your gesture. We will treasure this always.

(BTW, is there something in particular I’m s’posed to do with the potato ? I’m Irish, so yes, generally, I do know what to do with them......) ?

Damn! I'm sorry I'm so late seeing this! You didn't mention you'd done this earlier when we were texting. Ya big softy! LMFAO my youngest and his gf were here when I was packing it up. They were laughing their asses off when I was tossing anything and everything in there with the two caps.

I remember ramen, potato, protein bar, few ginger chews, some Japanese rice crackers w/nuts and a ordered by a felons Hot Pickle. You name it. ?

Looks good on you. If anyone can pull off salmon, it's you! ?

Alright my friend, means the world to us that it had a positive impact, as intended. Now on to the real. Please don't say "potato" around your potato. His name is Bob, but we nicknamed him Smirnoff. He don't find it as funny as we do, so Bob is probably best.

Bob was the runt of the litter, so he easily fits in your pocket without taking up much space. Loves to travel. But then what potato doesn't? Why do they all runaway from Idaho? Something to ponder.....

Anyhow, if your company participates in the Father Potato work day program, for gratin's sake, bring Bob along and show him off. He'd love it.

Careful with the Hot Pickle from Commissary/Stores, Bob's a tad jealous. ?

That's not how I imagined the Highway to Hell to look.

I had a great mother inlaw. She passed away a couple years ago and I miss her.
So I can't fully understand all the anti MIL stuff.

LOL. Not the highway to Hell. I too have a great MIL. She loves me to death and will do anything for me. Before we come to visit, she calls me and asked me what I want to eat. She doesn’t ask my wife. ? Had a great FIL too. Unfortunately he passed in June. I’ve been blessed with great in-laws.
