Maggie’s What's Your View II

Found out today why Pam bought me the AK 47 gel blaster for Christmas. She has had me sitting under the back veranda all afternoon protecting her apricot tree from birds, even bringing me food and Bourbon. Just having a break while the battery recharges, about 2000 rounds down range this afternoon. 8mm gel balls at 250 fps do not seem to harm the birds but they do leave in a hurry. Peak period coming up shortly as we approach sunset. Hope there is enough Bourbon left......

Little Christmas hog blastin last night. These things are really getting to be everywhere down here.

View today is my dang office.

kiddo is at home spending a couple days alone with her grandparents. Which she was super excited for.

She had the day planned out early. Nerf gun war. Laser tag war. Snacks (including grandmas fudge). Play Life (new Christmas present), use new pogo stick, more snacks, more Nerf wars.

She really wanted some grammy and grandad time with me gone for part of the day.

First, @Mooseknuckles that just made me smile so darn big. Just freakin perfect. That Joy (and exhaustion) will keep going. Love it!!

@oneshot86 - dude, best cover the size. I seen pictures of you and you dont have feet boys size 5-8.......? We would like to see a video of a youngster roller skating on that stuff though.

at the rest of you, great stuff, have a good one. I still have dishes to finish and a bit of a premium vino to finish.

Due to funky parent/kid schedules I am people free in the AM. Plan to be on top of a mountain in the foothills on the west side of town to watch the sunrise.
Im far from perfect (aint we all) and my faith is a huge part of my life. A beautiful sunrise has a lot of meaning to me about the new day and our new beginning that started with his birth. A cup of jet black coffee on a mountain top is a good way for me to reflect and enjoy that best gift.

take care and Merry Christmas gents.

we cut the expansion joints and i cleaned that shit up, i need to hit ace hardware, across the street, and get me a sqeegy and ill have the water off of it and its skate time. we have music and im trying to find a disco ball, pics coming soon.

carol had to go get some shit from the store so im stuck at the market counter, im biting at the bit.

no shorts for me.

i wear jeans unless im fuckin or swiming

Swim here. This water is cold enough to make you forget about color.
Cold one out there today. -43f up above the river at the lodge, got to be -50 or more down on the river. It’s awfully pretty though.

My helper decided it was too cold to be out any longer and headed for the barn without me.

Lots of tracks. Hope that is all fun and less work.

Well, I guess we know who the smart one is. :giggle:

true story.?

babysitting wood stoves and generators today. Looks like more office work for me. There isn’t much point in trying to do much when it’s like this. The propane quit flowing last night. We’ve certainly had plenty of colder weather in the past but haven’t seen this since last winter and then we didn’t get much of it.

You might have a small air leak. ?

Last truly could weather for me was 2014 in South Dakota.
Traveled there with Rebecca while we were dating.

-16* when we landed at Rapid City Regional.
No noticeable wind though.
Pretty much stayed that way the entire week we were there.
It's 76* here so we're more than 110* warmer than your place.
Ouch.

Yeah, that door gets used pretty hard being the main man door in the shop. The glass is double pane, but the weather stripping is getting a little “used”. at these temps frost always builds on anything that conducts cold well through the walls. Door hinges, door knobs, window hardware, any sort of long nails or screws, ect are particularly susceptible.

the door is trying, thats for sure, man thats cold.
a 110 degree difference, damn...

Back in the late 80s when I was stationed at Ellsworth AFB, SD, I went on leave down here to Tampa.

Woke up one morning and it was 85* at 0700.
Turned the tv on and it mentioned the temps in the Dakotas.
Rapid City was experiencing -65*.

I couldn't help myself and I called our shop to confirm the temperature. Boss said it was true, so I told him the temps I was experiencing, did the math for him, and said that I was gonna swap the coffee for iced tea and go hop in the pool.

For some reason, he called me an asshole as I was hanging up. ??

And I thought it got cold around here. Coldest I've ever endured was -40 with a 40 mph wind. The furnace never shut off for several days.

Anyway to get a little heat on the LP tank, get the gas moving again?

I have ways of getting it running if I need to. Insulated box with a 100w light bulb in it works well, but I generally don’t keep a generator running 24/7 unless I need to, which would be required to run the bulb. Incandescent light bulbs and battery banks don’t play well together.. the propane is no big deal unless we’re going to have guests which is rare this time of year especially when the temps are where they are.

-40 with those winds is no joke. That’ll kill you in a hurry if you out in it without proper gear, which most folks driving vehicles rarel have with them. Coldest I’ve ever been out in for a prolonged period of time where I knew the temp was -67f. The novelty wears off in a hurry. Went out on a S&R and it luckily turned out to be a rescue and not a recovery.

Serious cold.

What stove are you using? Gets old moving wood. If I didn't like running saws, I'd quit.

the lodge itself is 4,300 sqft. I heat the entire place with two stoves. The main stove in the basement is a ”King” model Blaze King and the supplemental stove in the great room is a Hearthstone “Phoenix”. The Blaze King isn’t beautiful like the Hearthstone, but it’s a real performer and takes care of the place down to about -25f. It’ll keep up with colder temps, but I’m running it really hard and actually use more wood than I do if I light the second stove. I go through about 6-7 cords a year to heat this place which is pretty good Considering the buildings size and number of windows.

We topped out at 69 today. No wind. I should've shot, but I got a little yard work done, cleaned up some food plots, and wet a line. Not a single bite and I don't even care.
Just a gorgeous day for late December in Virginia!View attachment 7211319

geez! That sounds nice! We had clouds roll in, a nice 5-10mph breeze kick up, and the temps have jumped to about -31f. I thought that was feeling nice and warm, but I sort of like yours better right now.
