Maggie’s What's Your View II

I haven’t been able to see my kids much since the split but managed to get a week with them so when she wants to paint my nails she gets to paint my nails.

Now that is one beautiful smile on a beautiful young lady. Ya done good, Dad. Nice nails.

Dad tip: Don't ever, Ever show her how to hold up your eyebrows with scotch tape! I have the photos to prove the resulting carnage to your face.

She is my little girl so if she wanted to Scotch tape my eyebrows I would probably let her, I would stab 1J with a rusty butter knife for less. The shit my kids get away with.

@Dirty D - been there. Many times. And lipstick. And bows in my hair. All kinds of stuff. Dads with good relationships with daughters is a good thing. A damn good thing.

@MosesTheTank - there was a guy buried in an inbounds slide in the chutes (1 I think) last week. Have a couple friends who live there. Patrollers and doctors and such.
If the snow is deep enough and you’re a good skier, look for someone to take you into Fish Creek.
The big drops into deep powder and those of legends. And the loose trees are like being at Mike Wiegle’s in Canada.....

go big, take chances!!

Never fault a man for wearing long britches. Probably means he’s an ambitious type and is getting work done. I suffer in the heat and humidity of Iowa summers, so I wear shorts to keep from coming unbuckled. The minute jeans/overalls became comfortable from a temperature standpoint, I’m happy as a pig in shit.

Was up at 0000 on 12/28, couldn't sleep. Got on up and started predating for my day.
Had told my 85yr old momma she was not gonna drive 268 miles to her oldest brother's 90th. Volunteered to chauffeur her to the party and back.
Left at 0700, just rolled back in at straight up 0200.

First stop before visiting some aunt's and cousins was Nahunta pork center.
10lbs semi dried mild natural cased sausage
3 lbs cracklings(not skins, cracklings. If you call skins cracklings, you don't know hog from buffalo)
8lbs natural cased smoked sausage
4 lbs souse

On to the party at 1830hrs. All seven of momma's surviving siblings were there. Likely saw a few for the last time this side of the grave.
Am beat, dog tired...John Koffee tired.
It was worth it.

I thought you were from the south. Ain’t never once heard a guy call them cracklings. Now cracklins, those I know ?

I believe he uses a kinetic splitter. DR maybe.

I use a machine called super split.
I so highly recommend it. There is no way a mere mortal can out pace the machine.
Don't get the DR, a local guy here did, to save some money and it was down in a month.
Hopefully this year I will manufacture a box wedge splitter w conveyor and log lift.
Log lift will cut down on my saw time
And conveyor will eliminate the hands on portion of the piling of wood.

The snow started about 5:30 am today, these photos are about 30 minutes ago. Right now we've added around 8-9" to the current pack, forecast looks to be 12" and up, depending on the location.

School across the street.

The drift out by backdoor has grown 3'. NW wind wraps over the roof and drops snow right out the door in the bunny feedlot. Eastern 1/3 of the state is mostly shut down, either no travel advised or closed roads.

Sounds like things are going to settle down tomorrow mid-day. Snowblower is gassed up, ready to go. Life on the Great Plains.

Took a couple of beers and burritos out to go watch the sunset with Rebecca.
It was 79* and just perfect outside.

Sitting in the back of the truck on a small rise overlooking the Alafia river.
Sun on its way down.

A few minutes after sundown on the drive home.

And just a little hog damage along the river.

I need to give that landowner a call.

Sunset is beautiful. Sit out there again, enjoy the sunset, then thump those pigs with thermal or NV!

Is that corn stalks baled? Using it for feed?
Yes. They are ground up in a large tub grinder and mixed with corn silage and rolled high moisture corn along with a protein supplement to complete the ration for feedlot cattle. They have little nutritional value but provide the roughage to scratch the rumen. They bale about 4500 of them every fall as they are a fairly large feeder.
