Maggie’s What's Your View II

She's in the "advanced dirt road class", he is in the novice class, but coming along nicely...

I really love seeing Fathers like you Mr Nichols. You know what you're doing is going to be not only a confidence builder for those kids, but is giving them life skills and stories that will live on forever.
Great stuff and thanks for raising "WINNERS".

Oh damn, even better. I immediately thought it was your superstar daughter. I didnt realize your son was getting to that age already. When my dad was teaching me we'd usually combine it with a shooting or fishing trip. He'd let me drive us way back into the middle of nowhere and we'd get out and have lunch and play "pick your target" with the 22s or drown some worms out in some remote pond.

That was the last period of my life where my dad and I truly got each other and were comfortable around each other. Other than his flying out for my Boot Camp graduation and seeing pride in his eyes, those are the last really wonderful memories I've got of our relationship. Many years later we'd occasionally ask the other if they remembered those days in the woods and try to rekindle that deep honest kinship we used to have but we couldn't ever get back to those wonderful days of father and son.

Sorry, that train of thought kind of got away from me. Those pictures just stirred a lot of wonderful old memories with my Pops.

Sunset over the range this evening in Hooterville...

Oh boy, what are you building?

Building? Huh?

(I'm having shits n' giggles fun with a pile of CCA-treated lumber.)

Hmm, something lost in translation? Building, making, manufacturing, assembling. Or maybe your dismantling something. If that is the case, normally something is reconstructed in its place.

Was just curious of the project at hand. I hate painting, tile work.

Call me "Deckard," and what my little replicant wants, she gets.

My view Friday night. Bolt on tractor that had been there since the eighties. Kroil, heat, 200 psi, beer and some cursing did the trick.

Nice! Did ya leave the kroil on for a day or so or able to get to it in just a couple hrs? Love that stuff. But hate the task you had. You're almost obligated to either fuck up the bolt head or just snap it off then resort to that tap set gathering dust somewhere. Now where the hell is that thing? :p

Applied kroil several times to all bolts that I thought I would need to remove while waiting for a part to arrive. Kroil+Time can achieve a lot. Most spun off after a little heat. Any that resisted were turned cherry-red. It's amazing how much beer can be consumed when you've got nothing else to do while holding a torch.

Edit: Cutoff wheel was not needed, so I count that as a win.

Very cool. Hope ya gotta decent view to snipe yotes n trash panda's trying to invade the nest. ;)

Yep. I took this pic from the dining room window, so it shouldn't be a problem. They're about 15 yards from the shore and the water, if we EVER get rain again, will be about 4 feet deep there, which should help. If I had me a good straight blade spinning lure I'd probably catch a decent bass lurking under that platform. I'll have to check around and see if a friend could help me with that.

Shit, we're at just under 80" so far for the year and had a flood Sunday that had to have been a foot of rain that the NWS officially recorded at 4". I laughed out loud when I saw that number. We were getting at least an inch per hour for most of the day; every river and creek had overflowed; and Hwy 90 which is the precursor to I-10 had to be closed because it was underwater, and they said 4 inches. With that record keeping we've got to be over 100" for the year.

Maybe my President can build a water pipeline (using American steel) and we can export it to places in need.

'Noreaster coming in... not good this time of year. Talking 3" of rain in the next few hours. This is the view during broad daylight... looking towards the East here at Schloss Nitrocellulose. Talking about 50 - 60 MPH winds, too.

This is not looking good.

Just had the tractor out putting water bars in the driveway... Well, on the bright side, we have not had rain in 6 weeks. The pond is a bit low.

Cheers,

Sirhr

Yep, you're gonna get hammered. We just got done with an epic few days of high winds and rain from hell ourselves. Yesterday and today are banner blue bird days. Go figure. Damn near 70 out now. Absolutely beautiful out. We flooded for two days and the river hasn't really dropped yet. Lots of water coming down from the hills.

Hot and dry have delayed our color changes this year, but we're easing into it a bit now.
Only one half-hearted frost so far, so the wildflowers still think it's Summer.
Got a couple of cold fronts inbound this week that will do their best to prove them wrong.

It’s headed your way fellas. You guys are usually 36-48 hours behind us. The REAL cold front came in yesterday afternoon at 1600 LCL. Today, winds out of the WNW at 15 gusts to 30 mph. High in the 40’s today. Love it!

Is a “water bar” something to deflect the water off to the grassy areas to prevent erosion?

Our road trip is coming to an end, will load some pics when I get back to my laptop in the next couple of days, too hard from the phone. Travelled direct from Adelaide to Canberra, had three days of Air Force reunion then continued direct to the East coast, could have got some real good pics on that leg but I had my hands full driving through the mountains and the wife was too busy hanging on. Hit the coast and turned right, navigating like we did in choppers.

A semi-reasonable facsimile of my commute today. 6 hours on the road to and from VA Beach to setup a new office for a typically more local client who insists on having me do his work.
My actual view of the tunnel was more like a parking lot.
Fuck living like that! Happy to be home.... but, admittedly, the money was nice.

Is that a standard 300 BO recipe? Been a little bit since i reloaded for 357, 44 but if i remember N110 is a magnum pistol powder (along with H110, W296). Just asking. The 50 Beowulf uses "pistol" powder.

It is. I use n110 for subs and lil gun supers. 110's at 2400 and 208's at 1000. Possibilities are endless on the caliber. Great whitetail round.

Well, we all do what we have to do. It makes us appreciate “home” that much more. My particular life at work and then back in Hooterville sometimes messes with your head a bit when it only spans a couple of hours of travel. My goal over the last 30 years has been home. Enjoy the fruits of your labor...home.

Here are some pics from our road trip, main reason for the trip was to attend an Air Force reunion http://5sqn.com.au/main.html and also catch up with some of the wife's relatives.
