Gee sorry I did not log back on fast enough. Some of us silly moderates have more to do on an 80 degree Sunday.
Why ask the question? To hopefully prompt some discussion and possibly learn something; maybe even promote the sharing of knowledge!!
The beauty of moderation is that it is not a single issue position but rather allows one the flexibility to take a position in which you truly believe whether or not supported by the extremists on either side. Are we better off alienating everyone who disagrees to any degree?
Is my way of thinking correct? I tend to think so, but I will at least consider cogent argument to the contrary, refute same when appropriate, ignore when necessary and fight when forced. Much like my hair...there is a lot of gray out there and debate beats the heck of advocating the death of all who disagree.

Moderates don't get coverage by the MSM because there's no money in it. "News" about moderates, or centrists, or realists, whatever the term is, doesn't generate viewers. Reports on far either way views get people to watch. Half to agree and half to disagree. But both halves see the commercials that provide the MSM its revenue.

Since moderates won't get coverage, viewers must make a choice between the two extreme views presented. Because the views presented are far either way, viewers are "all in" or "all out". And just like that, each side assigned any moderate to the opposing side.

Therefore both "sides" think moderate is a bad word. And, in the current political climate, because of the MSM and (anti)social media almost everyone feels a "side" must be adopted as an absolute. No room for discussion, my way or the highway, case closed.

I asked why he started the thread. I believe there is a big difference between what the Kristallnacht etc, however, and as Jew whose had family perish in those times, I think it was hugely irresponsible of Schwarzenegger to make that comparison. I think the difference is that Trump's warriors are far worse than Trump himself, which is an almost perfect distinction from that other time. I think there is a time for battling for position, and a time for sucking it up. I would say the same to an arch conservative in Maine who doesn't want to vote for Susan Collins. The left presents a much clearer danger to the country right now, and the Republicans need to keep winning elections anywhere they can. I can get part way there with you. I think Trump is basically a carnival barker, and full of shit. I believe there is a big difference between what the Kristallnacht etc, however, and as Jew whose had family perish in those times, I think it was hugely irresponsible of Schwarzenegger to make that comparison. I think the difference is that Trump's warriors are far worse than Trump himself, which is an almost perfect distinction from that other time. Trump is simply happy to have stupid, mendacious people along for the ride. Honestly, Nazi comparisons should be avoided at all times. They are stupid.

The second place I disagree is that Biden was a better choice. I think, policy wise, Trump was not bad, perhaps because of the constraints on him, perhaps not, but he did not actually do bad things. He is a bad person. To me, policy will almost always trump personality, but with Trump it is very close. After 1/6 I do not think I could vote for him again. I surely couldn't vote for a Democrat. Biden's policy moves so far have been atrocious.

The third place I disagree is that I don't see the value in Republicans committing political suicide by taking on each of his stupid outbursts. I think there is a time for battling for position, and a time for sucking it up. I would say the same to an arch conservative in Maine who doesn't want to vote for Susan Collins. The left presents a much clearer danger to the country right now, and the Republicans need to keep winning elections anywhere they can. Going back to the Nazi references, which earlier I said should be left behind, I think that, historically, that when you see books banned and burned, you have to know that you are looking at the people who should truly scare you.

I'm going to step out, I have no desire to watch this spiral down. I hope some found something worth considering in my posts even if it doesn't change many minds. I do hope those that think violence and intimidation are needed to enact change remember that everyone fighting a civil war thinks they are on the right side.
