Which stock for short sausage fingers?

Hello all,

Long time lurker here. Trying to spec out my first LR bolt gun. My background is primarily with AR platform rifles. I'm limited to 400 yards but have recently discovered a 1000 yard range within a reasonable drive and so the hunt begins.

Problem: Over the years I've stuck with AR platforms because of the relatively short reach between grip and trigger. The typical rifle stock doesn't allow me to get into a straight back "L" for consistently accurate trigger pull. I can fake it by riding my thumb along the stock and griping the stock with the bottom three fingers but it's not comfortable. I can do it on the AR platform though. So that you have the data: the distance between my third knuckle joint and pad on the inside of index finger is 2" exactly.

What stock(s) do all of you other sausage-fingered dudes use and had success with or what has been your compromise or work around?

Thanks,

@BugInJim

Re: Which stock for short sausage fingers?

I have little girl hands, and I've found that the Manners T5, T2, and T3 fit little hands best. The T4 is a little big for my hand. Also the AICS fits me well, but after the T5, I'll never go AICS again...

Re: Which stock for short sausage fingers?

I have long fat fingers so Iam not much help but I would assume if an AR fits you well, maybe you could look at one of the stocks that use AR grips? There is a few to choose from, Iam not too up to date on them as I can't stand the look but might be perfect for you.

Each link has a different stock

The one above with a remington looks like the least amount of room between grip and trigger but like I said I haven't seen or used any of them.

And the only one I almost like the AI AX chasis

That is what a quick search turned up Iam sure there are more just not my cup of tea but they apear to be working for the ones that do like them.

Re: Which stock for short sausage fingers?

I have the same problem. Short fat fingers. I also use stocks with pistol grips that are pretty vertical. What I did was to build up the front of the pistol grip to get my trigger finger closer to the trigger. I just used cotton cleaning patches dipped in 60 min epoxy and built it up. After the epoxy set, I sanded the area that I built up and then shot it with duracoat. It worked well for me. Of course, I used relatively cheap stocks and I like to tinker. I doubt that I would have tried this with a Manners, AICS or McM.

Jayph,

You just blew my mind. I had no idea there were AR style bolt platforms out there. I've lead a sheltered life

Pulled up the AI site and by the looks of it the profile between the standard AE and AX are identical minus the thumbhole.

Thanks to all that responded. Definitely gives me a starting point.
