Who makes a decent "drop in " type stock?

I know I can search through countless threads but I just wanted the short and skinny pretty quick.
I am looking at spending no more than $500 and it has to have an adjustable cheek piece and adjustable buttpad for pull.
I was looking at Stockys but I figured there was much better out there somewhere.

Welcome to the Hide.

Lots of different choices out there... but some more information would help.

What action? Barrel contour? Caliber? Intended use (ie plinking and varmint or serious target shooting?) Top feeder or detachable magazine?

Oh and the search function is your friend... searching countless threads keeps you from getting heckled for asking questions that come up all the time...

uh duh yea sorry it's an out of the box Remington 700 SPS with the stock heavy barrel and yes I know how to search but that's why I just asked for the short and skinny instead of reading through tons of drabble.

At that price range, definitely Bell & Carlson.

Looks like you really narrowed your options down by keeping it at or under $500.

B&C are nice, but make sure it is what you really want because if you have to replace it you will be out additional money.

Any of this precision stuff is so dependant on the individual that there are no guarentees a $2k chassis would be any better for you. Try before you buy if at all possible!

McMillan A+, Manners A+, H-S Precision A-, B&C B+
I own all four and this is how I rate them. But as far as your budget you are left with B&C unless you can find one of the others used. B&C can have quality control issues sometimes. My last one had the front sling swivel mounted off center.

Also for the 700... don't discard the Choate "Ultimate Sniper" stock designed by Plaster.

There is a love-hate relationship with those things here on the 'Hide. But I have had one for a 700 Varmint for a bunch of years and it transformed the rifle vs. the wood stock.

It's heavy. Has some goofy ergonomics (you like it or don't... period.) And the stippling on it is rough (sand it.) But it does work. And it is reasonably priced.

Would I put it in a league with some of the real chassis systems or highest-end drop in's? No. But it is serviceable and if you do like it, you won't be disappointed with the performance. From a functional standpoint, it's first-rate.

I have used two B&C Medalist stocks. For a M700 SPS-Varmint, I used a B&C Medalist A5 and for a SPS SS SA, I used a B&C Medalist sporter. While both were drop in, some need some relief to fully free float the barrel and, because factory specs have manufacturing tolerances, glass bedding will improve the fit for many and make none worse.

I put my SPS Varmint in a B&C Medalist and it really just fell in. There is a little fitting to be done but nothing you couldn't handle. Just like Flatbush Harry I am really pleased with mine and will be getting it glass bedded soon.

If you are looking to spend that much then you also need to look at Manners stocks with the mini chassis system.

As has been said many times here on SH... buy once, cry once. Even if you have to wait a bit longer before acquiring...

You won't regret the AICS, Manners, KRG or any of the full-up chassis setups.

i think i'd worry more about getting a stock that fits me first and chassis/mini chassis vs. typical composite/glass stock and bedding next.
