Anyone know a good smith that could re-work my remington 700 x-mark trigger. I want to keep this gun stock with no aftermarket triggers.

My smith told me no one is reworking X mark triggers to the best of his knowledge. He fixed me up with a Timney 510.

Why spend the money to fix an xmark.
When all is said and done, you still have an xmark.
Buy a timney or rifle basix, it will increase the value of the rifle.
FWIW, I have used both the original xmark and the xmark pro, when tuned to about 3 to 3.5 lbs, they are very serviceable.
Adjusting either is easy.

I guess that's the variation in their manufacturing because I have heard some people that love them. Mine would not adjust below 5.5 lbs... it was 9.5- 10.5lb out of the box!

pro has a set screw through the trigger so you can adjust it wirhout removing the action from the stock

You guys make me feel really lucky. My xmark trigger is great. Adjusted down nice and light and has a crisp break, absolutely no creep. Guess I just lucked out.

Chull- do yourself a favor and just put in a timney or rifle basix. Both are solid reliable triggers. You start dicking around with the XMark, there's no telling what could happen. If smith's don't work on them, that should tell you something.

Not sure where you got that. But I have a GAP rifle with a x mark pro adjusted to 2.5 and it's pretty bad ass for the cost of adjustment (I had adjusted it down to about 3.7-) (not a jewel, but that is also an additional 200 bills). I had them build me a barreled action on a 700 sa and they dialed in the stock trigger as part of it. Not sure if they do it separately.

With proper work any decent trigger, including the x-mark pro can be made good IMHO. However, if a tuned 40x or X-mark is not part of a custom rifle package, you would do well to chuck the factory trigger and buy a Rifle Basix, Timney etc. Jewel's are amazing, even for the money but best on F-class or bench guns due to tolerances, again IMHO. YMMV.

My favorite is an old style rem that was reworked, polished and had the springs replaced.

My newer gen XMark couldnt be adjusted because the wrench stripped the heads on the two of the three adjustment screws. They wouldnt budge cause they were glued I suspect. So if you try and adjust the Xmark, be prepared for that (maybe heat will melt it, I dunno, some gunsmiths do).

X-Marks can work fine, or they can be trash. It depends.
I have two that work fine and one that would not hold an adjustment below 4 lbs.

The ONLY screw you are supposed to adjust on the Xmark is the pull weight. They pretty much tell you as much.
The screws for overtravel and sear adjsutment have a thick sealant on them to prevent adjusting them. The pull weight has a light thradlocker that can be removed with acetone.
Do not go below 3lbs. Once you get that low, they can become very inconsistent.
I only changed mine because I like the wider, grooved shoe of the original 700 trigger

I run jewell triggers, had never shot a x mark that was set up nice. Then two weeks ago my buddy let me shoot his rifle with a X mark tuned down to about 3.5 lbs maybe 3 lbs. . The shoe of the trigger was wider then my jewell but felt great and made it very easy to squeeze the trigger straight back with no rubbing on the housing. I was extremely surprised at how great the xmark felt and now know they can be set up to be good triggers.

What do you consider nice & light? I gave my X Mark away, then bought a Jewell. Hate X mark triggers.
