Non-Locking Elevation (NLE) Turret Retrofit

"Competition shooters across the country have been steadily requesting a modification to our elevation turret that would disable the locking function. They want a non-locking elevation turret specifically so there is less movement or disruption to their shooting position while competing under time. Our engineering team has now fully tested out a retrofit and are able to provide this Non-Locking Elevation (NLE) turret modification service for our customers and dealers! For customers that currently have a ZCO product and that want this retrofit done to their elevation turret, they can simply send their scope in for this modification along with a check for $150 made payable to HPS LLC. Our staff will do a comprehensive inspection and cleaning of the entire scope along with the NLE retrofit. The cost includes return shipping within the continental United States. Customers outside of the U.S. we respectfully request they contact our customer service number at 208-435-4000 for a price quote including return shipping. As with any repair service, customers should remove any accessories, include a note requesting the service to be performed along with their full contact information and return shipping address."

CS Tactical will also be a stocking dealer of NLE ZCO's and/or can special order them for our customers.

Foundation vs MDT acc…I understand the hype now 😁

Today I took out 2 of my rifles for some baracade pratice to try and decide which I will take to a match in a couple weeks. One is chambered in 22creed and sits in a foundation and the other is a 6creed in a MDT acc chassis. In addition, both impact737 actions, both impact by Stuteville pre-fit barrels, both bix’n’andy tac pro sport triggers, both area 419 hellfire brakes, both nightforce ultralight rings, both Razor gen2 glass. Going with the 22 creed! So light recoiling and is a laser beam! Photo and video below 🤘

Flash-Over Incident Using Hornady Hand Primer

Hi folks,

Had a small scare the other day whilst reloading that might be a helpful reminder to people to keep safe and follow your procedures not being sloppy. Primer popped when being seated and flashed over into try causing other primers to detonate.

This happened using a Hornady Hand Primer

My set-up post incident

Close-up of hand primer – not sure where rest of pieces are.

And this is the resulting cuts to hand – fortunately they seem superficial. Blast also blew my glasses off my face and they landed ~6 feet away.

Fortunately I was wearing latex gloves so some protection.

Be careful folks and wear your eye protection.

(Just in case people are interested, didn’t notice anything different from usual. Cases were PPU factory on ~4th firing. Primers were Federal Large Pistol. Cases had been sonic cleaned and primer pockets checked prior to priming and I’d primed ~50 that session. This process has served me fine for ~3 years of loading)

Best wishes,

Scrummy

Interesting find on Facebook, optics edition

Scrolling through the ol Facebook when I come across this post. I have quoted it in its entirety below:

Just curious if anyone here ever exercises the turrets on a new scope or on a scope with tracking issues? I’ve read of several folks on the accurateshooter forum that swear by it. Also got the info below off of 24hrcampfire.

"I recommend that you condition both turrets and then repeat a box test at the range. Conditioning is done in the following way:

Find the mechanical center of both turrets. That's the midpoint of the total adjustment range.

Start with the elevation turret.

Rotate the turret clockwise to the limit, then counterclockwise to the opposite limit. Repeat nine more times. Return the turret to the mechanical center.

Then repeat the same process with the windage turret.

Then repeat the previous cycle (elevation turret ten times, windage turret ten times) nine more times. Then you will have exercised both turrets 100 times.

I've used this conditioning process to cure scope tracking problems. If the scope has turret knobs, I always condition the turrets when the scope is new. I perform the same process for the power ring - it solves POA drift problems with the zoom mechanism in the erector tube.

The conditioning process takes a while and can create fatigue in your hand. I wear a leather glove and perform the process in groups of 20-30 cycles, then rest for a few hours.

I read about this process in an article in precision shooting. I tried it and found it to work.
"

Has anyone ever heard of “conditioning” turrets? Sounds easier to just run irons if this is the case.

This is not how math works, is it?

I was in the process of building a dedicated LMT MWS upper for 6.5 cm. I balked at the cost of BCGs and then ended up seeing Titan Defense had the 6.5 CM DMR in stock. Somehow, when I started thinking about the parts I wouldn’t need to buy, the NIB parts I could sell, and the premium for not needing to wait I convinced myself that it made sense.

I was never good at math.
