If I’m an idiot then it should be easy for you to read my last post in this thread and let me know what I got wrong. What did I say that is not based in reality? Is what I said incorrect or does hearing the truth hurt your feelings?
They don't even need convictions to do it. Shit, it's as easy as:
1. Apply and get overseas job.
2. Pack big duffel and go to airport.
3. Work.
4. Meet hot women and bang them. Maybe even make other shit go bang too. (I suppose this takes a pair though)
5. Go home (or keep traveling the world) and party with zero tax liability. Bang hot women there too.
6. Repeat until you get married.
7. In case of divorce, return to Step 1 with added emphasis on Step 4 and 5, but remember to not marry them this time.
I made six figures as an expat for several years and paid absolutely zero taxes, be it income, SSI or Medicare taxes. You have to know what you're doing tax wise to not run afoul, but if you don't any decent expat accountant will tell you what you need to do. I was 100% legal, not even in gray area with my tax filing the entire time.
Hell, I still don't pay social security taxes working in the States now, plenty of that type of work across the country as well.
There's always the alternative of just not paying taxes, there's a shit ton of folks who do just that. Not my thing, but better than those being a whiny little bitch about it.

I watched my Dad struggle with the VA for years. Basic health care at around 75, and then bigger issues up until around his early 80's. At one point they kicked into overdrive and his VA benefits went way up. They have an odd way of doing things but took very good care of my Dad until he passed at 95. He had a patient advocate that helped him a lot. Probably why he did as well as he did.
The biggest lie I ever faced was when I enlisted as "infantry support", because even as a 17 year old; the thought of having to hump your shit everywhere sucked to me...and then I did two back-to-back deployments as an 'infantryman' between 2008 and 2010 due to a lack of manpower. Aside from having having to walk more for a couple years, I knew what I was getting myself into every step of the way.
Other than that, while I truly harbor no ill will against people who refused to serve for ideological reasons...I am unable to mentally or emotionally connect with them on any level. I view a conscientious objector as someone who celebrates all of June, but not the 4th of July.
People forget that our Nation is larger than they are, and that we are filled with people from all backgrounds. I had young men working for me from all walks of life. Some of them came from "great" backgrounds...and some of them wanted to be great, but had to escape home first. I had guys that were physically abused as kids, at least one that was sexually abused, some were foster kids, some had drug abusers for parents. Yet with all of the negativity in their upbringing, I'm yet to recall one of them ever speaking derogatory remarks about our country (at least in my presence). Yet I'm bombarded with seeing comments about those kids joining for lazy, or selfish reasons.
Regardless of whether one likes our policies or not (I frequently don't), I firmly believe in the fortitude required to keep us free enough to post stupid crap on gun forums etc... We might not keep it forever, but rolling over now because we don't like the 'bad people' that other idiots elect is only going to expedite our demise.

Like most guys, I did not start out planning on hobbling for the rest of my life and now that I am approaching 60 I can only dream of doing things that require taking a knee, crawling or walking any distance. My hunting plans are shot happening and hiking the Rockies is a non-starter.
As a matter of fact, making the equipment checks today at work totally sucked since my right knee is swollen up AGAIN and I cannot put a lot of weight on it. So I hobbled for about a mile and worked up a sweat doing a 30 minute job in an hour. My price to pay and all things being equal, I'd still sign on the dotted line and do it again.

My son routinely walks up to people in uniform or an old guy wearing a hat and thanks them for their service with an outstretched hand hoping to shake hands with an American Hero. If I/we are doing or saying something wrong please set us straight. When I/him say “thank you for your service” we mean it and we are hoping to make their day brighter. I don't think too badly of people who never served. I have mixed feelings about it. On some level I will never fully respect them as a man, familly I love and would die for included. It is just unfathomable to me to not want to fight. That is why there are mixed emotions.
Everyone has a different situation, life experiences, parental/mentors or lack of. That all shapes people into what they become. I can't really fault someone for never having someone push them or teach them about what it is to serve. People also mature differently so that fighting instinct if you have it may not manifest until later in life. So as much as I look at people different, I can't really shit on them for not serving.
Except when they start talking shit or making a bunch of excuses why they didn't or how they would have been so tough,ect. I know lots of great men who never served but lived honorable lives. The difference is they don't make excuses, they just took a different path in life. The truth is, if they decided to serve they would have been just as successful as they had the make up for it.
Men fight, its what we do. Some choose to sit on the sidelines and make money, chase other pursits or are just plain scared. Not everyone can be a winner. We only reduced the asshole population in those countries, if their borders weren't so porous we could have reduced it to the levels needed to provide them with a good/better start and/or if the ROE was better. As an example 04 May 2006 on a patrol a suicide bomber decided to blow himself up in Rusafa, Baghdad just above Palestine Street near a local court house in a market that sells children's clothing and toys, the handler and bomb makers is someone we wanted to catch. 18 killed at the scene, over 30 seriously wounded (no telling how many died later), I was just down the street on a patrol when it happened and we assisted with as much as we could. The people that orchestrated that are the assholes I am talking about. Just like the assholes that we caught that were indiscriminately shooting Sunni civilians and the ones that were indiscriminately shooting Shiite civilians that we placed our vehicles in between them and the fire(Baghdad was a huge city, we couldn't pinpoint where we were taking fire from, but we could tell what side it was coming from) so we could safely evacuate them off the elevated highway to safety. Or the assholes that tortured civilians and/or delivered parts of a family member to the Iraqi Army Colonel that I worked with. Just providing a little bit of perspective.
