Is anyone using IMR 4064 in a 6.5x47 Lapua? I’ve been using varget with a 123gr scenars with great results but I have a ton of 4064 laying around that I could use too. Hodgdon website shows nearly identical max loads and velocities between the two powders. Can they (varget and 4064) be reliably interchanged? Any other load dat for imr 4064 in a 6.5x47 also welcome, especially for 123gr bullets. Thanks guys!

I'd say try it! Be aware though, you may have to "tap down" the powder since the 4064 kernels are so large, when I loaded IMR4451 with 130's I definitely had to.

I use it in 6.5 CM, and since it is near similar, Varget and 4064 are identical in MV, slight edge goes to Varget for being tight groupings. I am using 139's though, no insane pressures either. Use it with confidence.

Running 123s with my 18" right now. First tried 4451 got up to 2650. Went to 41gr, probably could've pushed past that but didn't worry about it. Never thought it would be the powder to hit the mark i'm wanting (2750-2800). Trying 2000MR tomorrow went up to 43gr hopefully don't get pressure signs, though i hear it's not temp stable at all. I'll probably try RL17 before it's all said and done, at the moment the plan is to get some 8208. Apparently it's temp stable and produces good velocity.

The temperature sensitivity was what made me move away from 4000MR with 140 class bullets. It seemed really dirty too.

Yeah i was just trying something to temporarily give me some more speed. i got 2650 with 41.5gr of 4451, could probably push beyond that.

Noone local has any 8208 and i'm finding out that h1000 is dirty as hell for our SAUM. So i think i'm about to make an order.

7977 seemed pretty clean in my 243AI, I just started load development with it for my 300wm, and I am getting the same impressions. My experience with it is still pretty limited, I had a very good load for my 243AI but didnt shoot it much before I sold it. It was 3130fps with single digit SD. Shot some real nice groups at 600y.

So to update i had 20rds of scenars left. Haven’t shot the 2000mr yet it’s been really cold for MS. I forgot that i only went to 41.0 on 4451 and started loading for 41.5. Noticed i was compressing powder. I did that for 7 and backed down to 41.0.

Shot those 7 and i calmed down after two shots. Shots to the right are SAUM shots, we've been having trouble with the V6 conquest as of late. It shot a cloverleaf 5 shot group with an SD of 5.7. Average was 2656 suppressed with the hybrid out of an 18” barrel. When i got to 41.0 had some condensation buildup in the chamber but it also shot a 3 shot cloverleaf with a moderately good SD of 15. I blame the SD change simply on the fact that i was running into pressure.

Either I’ve got some grease/lube in the chamber or the can is heating up and causing condensation being that it’s 27F here.

Ive got 300 more scenars on the way and am trying to source some 8208. Will shoot those 2000mr tomorrow and see what i get.

What is your starting point for 8208 and Scenars? Have 8208 for 223/308/Grendel, but hadn’t considered for 47. Have a source for same if you’re having trouble locating.

I haven't gotten any yet, a friend of mine just told me it's temp stable and usually offers a serious velocity boost over conventional powders. Quickload evidently seemed to say 2730-2750 out of an 18" barrel with it with a max around 37gr. I'll likely run a 10rd latter test to see what numbers it gives me and look for a flat spot like i did with 4166 for my comp rifle. Truthfully the data centers reloads for the x47 seem ultra conservative. I'm guessing i end up around similar charge to varget 36gr-37grish. Here's a thread with some results. Evidently RL17 will get me where i want with a short barrel but it's not temp stable to my knowledge.

Shot 40.5-41.5 of 2000MR today with some good results. 40.5 yielded 2790ish with an SD of 3.0.

You'll have to excuse the fliers i don't shoot as regularly as i used to. I felt like the accuracy was there i just couldn't do my part. I stopped at 41.5 just felt i was probably pushing a lot of pressure. Was noticing a little more excessive cratering that usual and some flattening. No sticky bolt but still.
