Go to feed store and ask about *Electrifying your fence and gate" with a livestock electric fencing wire with posted signs warning of electrified livestock fence don't touch" that you can disconnect/connect "the electricity" from a switch plug from inside your home. It's not enough to kill you, unless you have a pace-maker, but otherwise it hurts/very uncomfortable with contact.

Side story...about trespassers.

(I'm a light sleeper) 3 trespassers entered my remote property at 1am. As they sat in their car next to my house on a early Thursday morning. Likely contemplating what to do next. They didn't expect me or my 12 Ga. As I broke out the driver' window with the muzzle and got all their attention as a jacked a round into the chamber and pointed it at the drivers face. They screamed, "Please don't shoot us! We're Sorry!....Told them, "if they did they'd all be dead, tell your friends." they drove off in a hurry. No cops came and none came out a speak with me, no further issues experienced with those or any other trespassers. Op you might not live in a place where you can do what I did. But I can't afford 1 mile worth of electrical fencing wire either. So I have a 12 GA. and a 1911A1 for those special times.

I wish you all the best

Can record to a SD card in the camera - night vision via infrared leds. Get the intruder on video and see if you can figure out who it is. Then the fun begins.

You can set the camera to give you an alarm via your Smart Phone when it detects motion - you can hear audio from the camera and speak thru it as well all from your phone.

I don't think you realize how much prison time you would have had if those people would have reported what you did.

To the OP, are those old grenade fuses?
If someone wanted to be pricks they could cause all kinds of problems for you.

You really should buy a really good trail cam and wait

:D you guys do not disappoint

Thanks for all the great ideas.

Dogs, not happening, I have one dog already, she barks at all the wrong times, so far she has not barked at whomever is vandalizing my property, but the UPS guy and neighbors all get barked at non-stop, but I do not want any more dogs

I have tried motion lights and driveway alarms, the problem is neighborhood cats (I hear Foul Mike now, !@^#%#%$^% CATS!) set them off and wake me up at all hours of the night, every fucking damn night, so those didn't last long, took them down

Trip wires can be placed in perfect places that only humans will trip (not cats)

TACC - I do have a mouse problem (down the cliff) that is why the fucking cats are always here, so mousetraps sound like a great plan ;)

Game Cam is a strong possibility, thanks boilerUP - will check out StealthCam G45NG, I need very clear nightime images from 25 feet away

clcustom1911 - Self defense plants! Awesome! That will be a good spring planting if this shit does not stop.

2aBaCa - paintball mine under consideration

OldSalty - I am ok with horns, will look into trip wiring something like that, I need the noise to wake me up and I can sleep through a lot.

I am concerned a little about whomever this is suing me if they get hurt, this is why I ordered the 12 gauge pepper spray setup, I figured that isn't going to harm anyone permanently. Just like the 209 shot shell primers didn't hurt anyone. All of anything I do will be placed INSIDE my 6 foot tall fence.

I think that is what they are, drilled out to accept 209 shot shell primers, how could someone cause a problem?
Those devices are all over youtube and preper sites as a great way to alert yourself to trespassers
They are ankle high and set behind wooden posts, can't shoot or harm or project anything at anyone, they just go bang

I googled, Texas sounds like they have it right!

I am in Alabama, BUT, I am in a county in Alabama that makes it clear I can only shoot people that enter my home, not just people on my property
There are rural areas of Alabama that allow you to use deadly force on anyone trespassing on your property, no warning required

Let's try this.
You ordered a dozen of these, on Friday you only used half of them

You came back into your shop, was tired so you tossed them on your work bench thinking about putting them away later.

Saturday morning your neighbor came over to borrow some hardware and while moving things around you put a box of plumbing stuff on your bench.

A week or two goes by and you have a knock on your door,it's the sheriff's department.

They are there to inquire about the bobbeytraps someone seen while they were looking for the lost animal.

While talking to the deputy he notices hand grenade fuses, plumbing parts and several pounds of gun powder sitting there on your bench because it's also your reloading station.

It is right about now you are going to start thinking about an attorney because the deputy in his mind sees destructive devices and your life just went to shit.

I almost and I mean almost had this happen to me with some airsoft stuff.

Just because you don't have intent or understand what you have because a bunch of random household goods are present doesn't mean anything, it's what they think

I follow you, and yes it sucks we live in a world like this today (THANKS OBAMA) I do understand constructive intent and how it can play out.

So all 4 of these 'noise maker toys' I bought off ebay are deployed in the field at this point with trip wires and 209 shot shell primers installed and tested

I don' t reload, no gun powder laying around

I am not a plumber as water NEVER STOPS and I don't want to mess with it, I do electronics and electricity no problem. My 'bench' looks more like exploded computers than anything else. I also work on motorcycles/cars, so tons of hand tools and various car parts on the bench.

My neighbor is cool, he is playing look out for me as he knows the entire story and is worried for my daughter. He thought my booby traps were cool (he is a retired accountant). He tried to confront a suspicious car that drove slow down our street last Friday, but the guy sped off when he saw the neighbor. I got it on camera and am fairly certain it was the ex boyfriends roommate. Video saved

Again, just because you bought something off Ebay doesn't mean it's ok to use how you are using it.

Your use could be considered a bobbeytrap.
It's harmless I get it.

So you're into electronics?

Cloths pin, strips of metal, a piece of plastic and you could set up something to send you a warning to your house.

I know driveway alarms come to mind.

Other than your wife think she heard one go off once; what is making you think you have someone prowling around?

Regardless, I'm going to give you a bit of a tip - don't change anything in regards to making it 'harder' for whoever it is trying to break in/rape you/whatever unless you go all in on it. Otherwise, keep track of when they like to come and how they are approaching/surveiling from and what you can put together that they are doing. Again, do not hinder them doing so by putting up small inconvienices to them letting them know you may/may not be catching on.

Instead, gather as much intel as to when/what/where and then let them do their usual thing with their guard being less and less with every 'successful' trip, only this time, there you are.

Never talk to the police
Never let them in your house without a warrant

Neighbors like that aren’t very bright.

Without knowing WHAT is tripping the wire you are a bit too hyper-vigilant....and I know what being hyper-vigilant is all about.

Unless I used a game camera, but the picture quality of the game cams I have seen seem to suck

Throw away that Sears catalog. Get online to do your research. The models out since at least 2015 are damn clear in night mode. Clear enough that you will know it's man or beast.

when we were kids we set up trip wires for the baby sitter who would hop our fence (we really didnt understand what we were doing, but all we would watch was black and white WWII on TV).
she was a very nice girl and did not deserve any of it.
we took thorny branches and set up a good trap.
long story short she got chewed up pretty bad we we got what we deserved from my patents.
trip wires and sharp stuff on the ground in the dark are a match made in heaven, few partially buried boards with nails sticking up just enough to cause issue not penetrate to vitals will stop anyone.
and its not just one row.
a few rows so it never ends.
cheap, removable

We used to have problems with poachers on the back side of our farm. We tried the game camera, they would just steal the camera then. We switched to all cell phone cameras. The pic gets sent to your cell phone like a text message. Even if they steal the camera you still have the pic. After that they started using hoodies to hide their face. After many different things this is what we ended up doing. It may sound a little harsh but it worked. Use a 1X4 or 1X6 and either some nails or wood screws sticking up. Cover the boards with leaves, grass or something to camouflage it and place them where they are coming across the fence or onto you property. That way they can be picked up when the kids or dog is playing. That is the only thing we found to keep the ass hats out. After they step on nails a couple times they wont come back.

Not sure where you live but I have a row of large agaves with particularly nasty cholla cactus behind that in key spots with a couple jerusalem thorns for good measure. They dont call agaves 'Spanish Daggers' for nothing. Unless you hack down thew vegetation you arent getting through. Double bonus I have less grass to water and attractive xeriscaping.

I had posted in another thread that I can't find now about buying some of these

Got them rigged to take 209 shot shell primers and they work great

The problem is, someone tripped one last night (maybe at wee hours of the morning) and my wife thinks she had heard it, but I didn't hear it
either way I didn't go rushing outside to see what happened, but I did determine today that 100% someone went into my backyard and tripped the wire I had connected to this device (was not an animal)

I have about 3/4 acre yard, (semi-private, end of street, my property ends at a 40 foot drop), there is no reason for anyone to be walking around anywhere near my house, no reason other than being up to no good.
Although the shot shell primer is loud (and pretty sure it scared off the person that tripped it) it is not loud enough

and now whomever is prowling around knows they tripped something, so my guess is the prowling will not stop (been going on for 2 years now, long story) but the person doing it might be more careful now.

I am looking for the next idea, staying legal and reasonable (can't put a 6 x 6 with spikes swinging down on them even though I want to) but I might be willing to skate the edge of that depending on the idea.

Going to replace the 209 primer setup with 12 gauge pepper spray shell, and put it in a slightly different location (even more hidden)

but what other trickery might I be able to install?
I haven't read all of the responses, yet I recommend motion activated cameras like Blink XT2.
Once you find out who they are call the police and get trespassing charges against them.

There is no reason someone should be walking around your property at night.

Or you could buy an 80lb dog who could walk around your property at night if fenced in?

Cameras
Fences
Good lighting
Dogs
Know your neighbors
This list goes on

All I have to add to this is that if there is a possibility that a trespasser could be injured while on your property, you better have a very good home owner's policy. And, if either negligence or malice can be proved, you might need a very good lawyer...

Which cell phone cameras were these. Just curious as I have some property I am specifically looking to monitor to keep relatives off of it who think they can do whatever they want.

1. Build a fence on the back property line. It doesn't have to be built well, as you will need to tear it down soon.

2. Invite Code Inspector out to see your new fence. NOTE: You did NOT get a permit before building the fence.

3. Demolish fence upon orders from the Code Inspector, because you did not get a permit.

4. Leave some of the boards laying around the property line - because, you know - it takes awhile to demolish the fence.

5. Ensure the boards left laying around have adequate nails/screws sticking through them - and pointing up.

See? No "intent". No "booby traps". No "lawyers" needed. Added bonus - all this was done as ordered by a government official (The Code Inspector).

WARNING!
This probably won't work in the real world - and I am most certainly not an attorney.

One did go off the other night, I have the spent 209 primer and the cotter pin trip wire was removed. So no guess work here, someone tripped it. The way that one was setup, it wasn't a cat that did it.

This person is vandalizing my property and cars, not going into any more details, but its obvious someone is out to get me

I am not going to sleep on the roof for 6-8 weeks or longer. This is NOT happening every weekend, maybe ever other month at most and on different nights of the week.

This has been going on for 2 years now, I am just fucking done with it and just now starting to do more

Police aren't going to catch him, I can't shoot him in my yard if I catch him (maybe I can give him a beat down with an aluminum bat?)

cameras, extra lights, driveway monitor alarms, all have been tried, I am unable to catch them due to the randomness

I think one period of time went about 4 months with nothing happening, then it started again. Its not possible for me to stay awake enough days or weeks to catch him myself. I need sleep

I know animals are not vandalizing things, I know it is a person. Tripping the wire is after years of problems, funny thing is the night the bang happened, that was it, nothing else was done. Many Many nights prior to there being any bangs, shit happened that could only be done by a human

no sears catalog here, I was going off customer images posted on amazon from many of the game cams, those pis SUCK compared to the higher end POE cameras I have installed. The problem is my nicer POE cameras lose clarity at night at distance (POE means they are connected to my house, my property is just under an acre) Game cams will get closer, but I need them to be good quality, good enough to get a clear human face

I ordered a game cam last night, we will see what it can do. If I can't recognize my own face in it at night, I am sending it back.

Sounds like one of those situations that could make someone regret informing le of.

In a situation like this, some folks might stoop as low as to grab him outside his home, dose him up with 100x the typical lsd, write I hate... on him with a perm marker and drop his ass off in the hood.

I have thought about the boards with nails/screws, but this opens me up to a law suit pretty clearly **IF** I am wrong and it isn't the ex boyfriend. If it is the Ex, then I am pretty sure he will not pursue it. He knows he will be in deep shit if caught on my property. Per the police report already filed, I am to contact the police again to have him officially trespassed if he comes here again (and he knows this) He is a harassing and threatening little dick, but he isn't stupid.

That is probably the only way this would be settled, but then he would have to know it was me and would have know why he is getting his ass beat

and I have mentioned a few times here that he is armed all the time. I am not a gangster, not going to mess with the chance that he gets a shot off on me.
