Suppressors Form 4 wait time

I just bought one from Charlie's, waiting for it to ship. I'm curious how quick this eform 4 is gonna be.

A buddy of mine just had one clear in 10 days, mine was 12. Hopefully it’s fast for you man. I almost ordered another this morning just for S’s & G’s but I just got three firearms and 2 cans over the last few weeks so I should chill for a minute. lol

Yeah I'm excited. This'll me my 6.5, 7mm, and 308 suppressor.

About god damn time.
Single Shot Trust / 1RP
Mojave 9
Submitted 3-11-24
Approved 7-1-24
112 day wait

Also, my NICS background check was completed with the FBI on 6-7-24 so it’s been in the ATF’s hands for 24 days.

How or where can this information be found?
I decided to start emailing [email protected] everyday until they finished my background check. I started on June 4th and the first three days of responses were:

Your ATF/NFA application is in process. When an application is completed, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) will provide the final determination. Currently, there is no further status information available.

On June 7th, the response was:

Your transaction(s) has been resolved by the NICS Section. Please direct any additional questions regarding your application to ATF at 304-616-4500.

The information I provided in the emails was a brief question so they know what this is about:
“Hello, I was wondering if I could ask for a status update on my background check for an eForm 4 with the ATF?“

Then I added a brief About Me section with: name, where I live, last 4 of my SSN, and Oregon Concealed Handgun Permit number for whatever good it may do.

Then I added a section for Form 4 information which is just a copy and paste of the bottom four lines on the eForm 4: the permit control number, reference number, submission date, form ID.

I’m not sure if this had any impact on my wait or not because this was already around the 90 day mark that I started pestering the feds, and that seems to be on par with SilencerShops daily-updated median wait time for a trust which is found here:

So I was able to get some info from a source at the FBI Center in WV where the NICS checks are conducted.

I was able to speak to someone there that is fairly high up on the food chain and was told that their NICS checks literally take milliseconds to complete. That is unless of course there are exigent circumstances, for example the huge rush in 2020 when gun sales skyrocketed, etc. But they obviously can’t do a BCG that hasn’t been submitted.

It was about 10am when I inquired about my latest form 4, and I was told it was given a “PROCEED” the day before. At around noon, I had an “APPROVED” email from the NFA office.

This person also said “those fuckers at the ATF like to always try to blame us…”, which made me chuckle.

Just thought I’d share. Take from that what you will. I doubt we’ll ever know the rhyme or reason. Either way, the NFA is an infringement.

Our probate judges in Georgia always used to blame the FBI and NICS when they were delaying our licenses. We kept suing them and using discovery to show it was not true. Many lawsuits and a few legislative changes and the delay all but went away. Now no license is needed to carry. Improvements, improvements, bit by bit . . .

Kind of off topic, I know, but another example of fingerpointing when we knew where the blame was.

Fuck the ATF (only after this next suppressor gets approved 😍)

2 came in today from an individual to my trust
both the old fashion way all paper, passport photos, fingerprints cards and a check(s)

Sent 11/21/2023
Received 7/3/2024
TBAC TakeDown 22 & Q Erector 22
Thats not horribly horrible. When I did 2 on my trust it was 14 months wait.

Dang, I’m kind of jealous of the folks getting theirs back in just weeks, or even days!

Up to 13 now, with two more pending, and the wait times have averaged just under a year via our trust. Fastest was ~4 months.

Last can took ~9 months. What pisses me off about that one is that it was just the first can (Hybrid 46) when I fell for SilencerCo’s BOGO ‘deal’ last year. Just checked again and the “free” Omega 300 still hasn’t been assigned; hell, maybe (likely) it hasn’t even been built by SiCo yet. BOGO can status still showing “In Process” almost a year after purchasing the 46 (just over 11 months ago), and we still have the ATF hoops to jump through yet again after SiCo does their part.

I called SiCo about a month ago, and got a big fat “We’re working on it” non-answer. I know, I know…1st world problems.

Also still have one in jail at Capitol Armory; one of the little 15th Anniversary special edition titanium Sparrow 22 cans. That will be nice on our little 10/22 take downs.

Ordered: 2 Nov 2023
Form 4 mailed: 9 Dec 2023
Check cashed: unknown - sent by Capitol Armory
Approved: Not yet! LoL

Had an individual come back in two days recently.

Single person trust, filed on 3/15, approved today, July 5. That's 112 days for a trust. My last suppressor submitted through a trust took twice as long. Imagine the rush on suppressors if trust wait times get down to just a few days.

This one will be a Radical Defense CS5. Really anxious to get my hands on this one.

ATF website is showing times are growing now. Currently, average wait time (as of writing this post) is 60 days. In May, average wait time was under 40 days.

Could the reason be that more people have heard about the short wait times and finally decided to take the suppressor plunge?

In other words, the field of buyers got larger which increased the work load on the ATF.

If a new fast food restaurant sells burgers which are better and faster than the competition, it's going to get more customers which could slow down process.

I understand the appeal of Capital Armory, and I am by no means throwing shade at them.
But instead of having to take a day off work to sign for something, I just swing by my FFL after work and pick it up. Can a wife or another adult sign for your can? If so, that wouldn't be so bad

Any adult can sign for it, ironically when it was delivered I didn't sign shit.

I was buying from Silencer Shop for years but this go round they were out of anything i was looking for. CA had what I wanted in stock, so I figured what the heck. Does have to ship to the address on your ID, or I would have had it shipped to work.

If UPS would do what they and their tracking info says it works, but telling me 12 -4 and then delivering at 6:30 was annoying.

Way better than the SilencerCo BOGO fiasco LOL

I just jumped in! I've been putting Surefire muzzle devices on my guns for the last 2 years. I had the money set aside for a 762 RC2, but couldn't find one now. Yesterday I discovered Surefire and B&T came to an agreement to allow B&T to use a compatible mount so I bought one. This is my 1st. My LGS is a SOT but they don't have a kiosk, and they're waiting on their new license. The seller knows all this and is holding it until that comes in, they said any day now.
My question is; can I go ahead and drive 50 miles to a kiosk open an account and set up a one shot trust, as a means to expedite the process? Apparently I bought the last one?? I can't find anymore in stock anywhere I look, this was the only non-Ti on GB.
I paid $902 with tax/shipping for a B&T Rotex 762 W/ SF HUB Adpt SD-762Rotex. So I saved a couple hundred bucks to pay for my stamp!
Any advice is much appreciated!

Can't they form 3 it to a shop in your local area so you don't have to do 100 miles round trip just for a can?

Filing as an individual will be faster unless your just wanting to do a trust, my form 4 on the single shot trust thru the kiosk took about 5 months. I believe it was accepted in feb 24 and I got it the week of Father’s Day

I’m still waiting. I called yesterday to inquire and was told they have everything and it’s just “waiting to go through the process”.
On the other hand, just a few weeks ago, my dead air wolf man was approved in 46 hours. So wtf.
I called and they said the fbi is the wait. I told them about folks I know who also have suppressors siting in jail for 9 months and suppressors that, last month, got approved in days.
They hung up on me.

because they do NOT give a shjt about this as they will have a job no matter what, it's really the luck of the draw IMO and your prints must be lost in some crazy backlog because the search should be in minutes not months. I feel for you my friend but the ATF sucked way more years ago than now as far as approval times.

Si. On another forum people are regularly seeing 1-2 week approvals, some as short as 3 days.

Besides the usual snags like you have a name similar to the name of a known felon I tend to think forms submitted months ago before the process was streamlined are just caught in the gristmill and SOL.

in theory "swim lanes" and deduplication of effort ... there are more links within the links but below is the executive summary

Bundling simply means combining multiple applications for multiple suppressors into a single FBI NICS background check. But the real credit, Maddox says, goes to a lawyer by the name of Ben Hiller who recently became the ATF’s acting NFA Division chief. To understand the backlog in Form 4 approvals, Maddox says, Hiller waded into the paperwork with the goal of identifying problems in the process.

“He assigned a hundred forms to himself just to work through it. What he found was 80 percent of the work his people were doing was duplicative and unnecessary.”

“The ATF [used to] wait until they had your Form 4 application for three or four months,” says Maddox, “They wouldn’t process the background check when you first sent it because it might be four months before they started processing it, and what if you committed a felony in between? So before [March] you waited in line for that person who essentially was arrested before and [the ATF] had to try to figure out how it ended. … So they changed the process where that guy who has the special order parks over there and the rest of the traffic flows through.”

What is “Bundling”?

This is the term the NFA Division uses to identify an individual or trust with multiple pending applications in queue. These applications are for items purchased at the same time or over a period of time. When bundled, the NFA Division identifies these applications and packages them together so that a single NICS check can be submitted and all pending applications can be approved simultaneously. This reduces the overall number of background checks sent to FBI-NICS and allows NFA examiners to efficiently process multiple applications simultaneously.

Excellent post. Thank you for sharing that.

We should all probably send a thank you note to Ben Hiller.

I’m still keeping the average wait time higher for the rest of you. Sitting at 130 days right now on two cans, filed as an individual.
