My view on I10 Westbound earlier today… 🫤

I vastly underestimated traffic volume coming back into LA from the desert after the Labor Day weekend. Took me almost 4 hours to go 90 miles or so from Indio into Riverside where I’m staying the next couple of days while my truck gets a fancy pants rear suspension modification.

We went on an overnight trip for the wife’s birthday. A few pictures

I have been getting the add ons for this since Christmas. Finally found one in-stock
The 828U has gone up a bit a see. I bought it at a time I really shouldn't have! Great balance to that gun. It was either 828 or a Winchester Select Energy

Its almost that time of year again. Working getting used to hiking up my mountain… Youd think working as a forester is good prep… Its not…

A nice clearing up top from when, I had some group selection. Planning to put some oak in eventually.

I had the tractor up to the first bench, running skid roads…

Breakfast at my wife’s cousin’s farm before we moved a few miles down the Willamette Valley for a couple days… Almost everything on the plate came from their farm or their neighbor’s dairy. Only the flour for the sour dough bread was store-bought; eggs from their chickens, bacon from their pigs, strawberries from their garden, etc.

Felt good to go back a few decades!

This spring Pretty Lady and I took a bus tour to the Black Hills of SD. One of the stops was Devils Tower. At that time we allowed a mere 2 hours to explore. We were so enamored we made plans to return, which we did yesterday.
20240918_103938.jpg

There's two trails around the Tower, we walked them both. Cold and windy in the am, warmer in the pm. Not quite 5 mile total, lots of elevation change.
I pulled the work pin in May, Pretty Lady has been retired last summer. We are having great fun for a couple of 70 plus old farts.

You're living the dream buddy.

Do deer have triplets? Mama and three babies making their way across the front yard…

…maybe twins and an ‘adopted’ herd mate? All three are definitely all the same size/age.
Twins are more common than triplets. Supposedly a doe that has twins will almost always have twins. I have a doe that has had triplets two years in a row

You might want to step outside tonight. From the light polluted skies of SW Michigan. View attachment 8521769View attachment 8521770View attachment 8521771View attachment 8521772
My wife got similar pics way down here in central La. I don't have any of them available to post since they're on her phone. First time I've ever actually seen the lights. You could just barely see a slight pink tinge to the sky with your eyes, but through the camera it showed up very plainly.

Shotgun related...quail hunting in S GA. Ah, I'm the tubby old guy in the background! haha

This was from last year. They didn't burn this part of the plantation hence the too high/thick brush.

I go at least twice every year cause I love upland shooting and love the dogs working. I'll be back down there again twice this year and next year it will be three times as a young lady (daughter of great friends) wants to go and she has her own gun and been hunting pheasants. I think the quail will challenge her and I always try to support young people and shooting/hunting sports.

Nice, wanted to get in some NC Dove season with my Dad and Brother, but life just got in the way this year.

A couple sunrise pics from a job I finished up last week at a pipeline pump station. Quite literally "out in the middle of nowhere."

The landscape was beautiful. And the terrain would have made for fabulous long range shooting.

Other than those small positives, the job sucked out loud. Hated every minute of it.

Actually pretty excited about this… The VA finally opened up an ortho clinic in my town, so I no longer have to make the 1.5 hour drive each direction to the nearest VA hospital for my knee injections.

Trying to hold off as long as possible on the knee replacement that’s inevitable at this point. Already had it scoped twice, but it’s still a mess in there.

I did my last set a few months ago. They have stopped working for me, surgery is my next stop. Dont want round two on the left knee, and not in a hurry to start the right one either.

I had both knees replaced at age 48. Cortisone and synovial fluid shots weren’t working. All I can say is don’t put it off too long. Sadly, you won’t have the knees of a 20 year old, but the pain will be gone. You will feel so much better.

It has been an usually dry and warm harvest season this year. The beans came off fast and dry with the corn crop right behind the beans, even overlapping in some areas.

The bean pile is about 200 yards long, I don't know how wide. Lotsa beans.

This is the little corn pile on the west end of the beans. Below is the big corn pile.

Here the crew is getting ready to start another corn pile on the east end. It takes a big generator to power that conveyor.
They main house must be totally full, waiting on a 120 car uni train. On an average day there's 10 to 18 trucks in various stages of dumping starting at 7am till 8pm, all day long. This operation is a half mile from the family farmstead.
Modern farming.
