    Redding lock rings suck!

Now we will have to suffer through all the Co-Ax press people chiming in saying floating dies is a design trait of the press.

    Redding lock rings suck!

That was my conclusion. You can't not secure the die because the threads will back out. Having it secure with a bit of float is very good. Even better is proper installation of the die in the press. I run the case up into the die before I lock it down. It self centers.

    Redding lock rings suck!

"suck" is an inadequate description. After many years of trial and evaluation I went with the Lee rings with the embedded O-ring. Forster rings came in second, Hornady third. Redding makes some nice dies .... but .... as so eloquently stated, their die rings "suck".

    Help with my OCW please.

You're there dude, nice job. Now you have your optimal charge range and if you make a dipper cup for charging cases you don't have to measure each charge. I love dipper cups. I use them for all my rifle loads once I determine the OCW.

6.5CM Load Dev Pressure Signs Help

bjay, help me understand your comment about the bushing being too tight. Brass has a specific ductility that defines its ability to tension the bullet in the neck. If the bushing is too small it may cause difficulty seating the bullet but I'm struggling to see how it will provide significantly...

6.5CM Load Dev Pressure Signs Help

I had a long drawn out post but it was devoured by the cyber gremlins. Those flat primers are definitely a sign of high pressure. The next step up the pressure ladder is sticky bolt lift/extraction and you don't want that. Unless you are using a roll crimp you will not get too much "neck...

    Help with my OCW please.

Kudos to you for paying attention to what others are doing but it does not have much relevance to your gun and your components. Like EJ said, if you are certain the load you like is not over pressure start fine tuning it. I've done lots of OCW tests starting low and moving up in charge. Not...

Rock Chucker Supreme vs Redding Big Boss 2

The Lee Classic Cast has a better primer catch than the Redding. The Redding has an angled insert in the bottom of the ram that can clog up and catch primers. The Lee just drops them straight out the bottom. Just be aware Hornady shell holders do not fit all presses. The bottom flange is...

    Varget: Actual temp sensitivity?

You don't store dead folks with your powder? I thought everyone stored dead folks with their powder. I'm sure he meant desiccants. To the OP, I haven't seen that kind of change with Varget but I don't get to shoot past 300 yards. I've had good stability with all the Hodgdon extreme powders.

    What press for 338LM?

The Lee Classic Cast single stage and Classic Turret presses will both work well, as will the Redding Ultramag. I have all three on my bench. Traded away a Co-Ax in favor of the Ultramag because I got tired of pinching my fingers seating bullets in the longer cartridges. The Co-Ax is a great...

Officially a New Reloader of 308. I have some questions

I assume the Hornady is the AMAX bullet. Don't know because I do not use Hornady products. If their data says 2.822" OAL why would you make it shorter? A lot of accuracy can be lost in .022". The two things you want to look for when selecting an OAL are: 1) does it fit in the magazine? 2)...

no room in house, so thinking about a "portable" reloading bench...

I built mine out of steel. Dillion Strong Mounts are the uprights. 5/16" plate for the base and press mount. Works great, I haul it back and forth to the range along with a large tool box that contains all the other stuff.

Officially a New Reloader of 308. I have some questions

Can't explain the tight fit on the factory loads. Maybe you need to clean the chamber. You will get very frustrated if you use the bullet tip for OAL measurements. You need a bullet comparator to get consistent spacing off the lands as measured off the bullet ogive. Why so short, why not go...

    Sizing Question

Your only other option is to open/hone the neck on the Hornady die to a larger dimension. Benchrest folks do this once they decide on an exact neck diameter they want but they also neck turn and uniform all their brass. At that point you have a dedicated die to that gun using that brass. Yes...

    OVER-Reaming Crimp? Is it Possible?

What cartridge are you working with? If military 223 or 308 you may need to remove the excess brass that is used to "crimp" the primer in the case. Commercial brass will not have the crimp. What specifically are you using?
