Different powder, different round, different barrel. You are not comparing apples to apples.
Gotcha i kept thinking. What the hell am i doing wrong for loads to be so slow lol. That’s a nice setup and some insane velocity. No pressure signs?
I am using the 130 Berger Hybrid, I haven't tried varget, I will give it a shot!
I understand, just pointing out that with more powder and an 8" longer barrel, getting the same velocity with same bullet.
Just very slight ejector swipes, primers looked good. I did see some primer flatting at 39.5 so I know I’m pushing it petty hard. Good thing about Varget is it’s very stable.
Found out what it likes and groups are shrinking.

Ax308 18” 308win w/ 15.5” handguard. Can anybody give me a rough guesstimate on 175 FGMM speeds? I’m thinking the 24” 6.5cm might take a back seat to the setup lol.
I think I was getting 2575 with my 18". I'll check my notes later. I was getting 2500 flat today with 178's outta that new 17" I built but it's a slightly softer load.
Nope never mind 2525 from my notes. If it's a fast barrel you might get a little more.

Thinking about putting my origin with 18" 6.5 cm into an MDT ESS with the folder. Anyone else have a shorty in an ESS?
Interesting. Was wondering what others were experiencing re: barrel heat up.
I expereinced some inaccuracy recently in rounds 25 - 30. Might be "heat up." Could also be (1) me (2) different type of target aiming point for rounds 21 - 30.
Rounds 1 -20 has a very visible aiming point (blaze orange) 21 - 30 had a lime gree aiming point. It was hard to see.
I have always seen a shift with heat. This barrel being a 3b warrants a cool down between strings since it’s not a target/match gun. I’d never send more than 3 shots in the field, unlike my medium Palma or m24 profiles which see more use in one day than this guy will in a year.
Maybe that's why I was driving myself INSANE trying to get half MoA groups with my semi AR15. Now I think about it...0 .mosta my good groups came early in the range session....
My ARs are all .5 minute guns edge to edge. My 6.5g shoots .25 on average. The AR adds an entire new set of issues regarding heat. Rather than a bolt gun being a barrel, action and bolt, the AR is a legitimate system that has far more points of failure to consider.
I've decided to give upon AR extreme accuracy (half MoA) and focus on my bolt guns, all under half MoA which is good enuf for me.
Since I shoot everything suppressed, I don't need the hassle of also factoring in how a can affects semi accuracy.
I measure real performance by my worst 5-shot group, not my best. And for *me* bolt guns are the way to get that consisent accuracy.
My brother recently bought a Gunwerks Thumpr in 6 Creedmoor. It has a 16.5" carbon fiber wrapped barrel (Proof maybe?), titanium action, carbon fiber stock etc etc. It's a nice handy rifle. The ammo they sent him with it was 108gr ELD M and it's only going about 2650fps but it will flat out shoot. They sent the rifle with a Nightforce optic with custom turret and the drops were right on out to 500y, the furthest we tested. It's a sweet system.
In wish more people were as pragmatic as you. I’d probably be happy to build for others if that was the case.
I just cut down and re-threaded this mkIII to 16.25 for my ultra 7.

I ordered a manners prs2 for it and a grayboe so I can use it while waiting for the manners to come in. ( The grayboe should come in any day now, the manners will take another 6months or so)

Let's say a guy wanted a lightweight, short, hunting rifle.
I coyote hunt in calling contests in the Oklahoma, Texas, Colorado, Kansas areas and my potential long distance shots have increased up to 500y. My 6.8SPC does fantastic inside 200y but I don't feel confident in attempting anything past that. Since I've gotten more into longer range shooting with my 6.5cm, I see the benefit of a dedicated rifle that's lightweight and has the accuracy potential at distance. We walk up to 20 miles in a day so I need the bare rifle to be under 7lbs, including optic and suppressor total package needs to be under 10lbs.
I have a few 'musts' in mind:

I have a Remington 700 compatible stock that I would like to use for now so really all I'm looking for right now is a barreled action. 6 Creedmoor is the caliber I have decided on and there's really no changing that. My brother keeps trying to sway me to 22 creedmoor but I don't want it. I'm set on the 6cm because of the cartridge versatility, ability to take larger game if I want, availability of brass/bullets/powder/primers and since I'm loading for 6.5cm I already have a lot of that.
I'm not one to wait around, kind of a 'it's my money and I want to spend it now!' type.

If you want a custom, pick any one of the 700 footprint actions out there and have a cf barrel spun up for it. Shouldn't be hard to keep it under 10 lbs as long as your aren't using a 3 lbs scope.

Nice looking rig! What kind of velocities are you getting? I can't decide between the 6 or 22 creedmoor for a short barrel varmint rifle.
Just got the barrel in today so it’ll be tomorrow or this weekend before I can do any load development. Had it throated for 75gr Vmax’s. This is strictly a coyote barrel.
I look forward to your data. The 75gr v-max is excellent fox medicine here in the U.K.
I'm curious with how it does. I just chopped my .243 down to 18.5" to run with a suppressor. I'm looking to load 70gr Noslers and 87gr V-max. Might do at the max a 90gr ELD for deer and antelope.

I am looking to reduce weight on my howa 1500 and make it more compact. Right now it’s in a chassis and has a 26” 308 barrel in it. Thankfully my suppressor is a reflex and only adds another 3.5” to the end of the muzzle.
I’ve been exploring some options and looking for feedback.
1) chop existing barrel down to 18-16”
2) buy a proof carbon barrel in 18-16” in a different caliber such as 6c or 6.5c
I would think chopping almost 10” off of a steel barrel would significantly reduce the weight and obviously more compact. However, the idea of losing 10” of barrel length and a carbon barrel in a flatter shooting caliber is equally as enticing.
One just significantly costs more than the other.
