16-18 inch shorty rifles

Dunno really, i imagine if cut to the same length quite a bit, but this was in no way going to be an expensive build. I started running the numbers on a short barreled 6.5x47L with 120/123 pills at 2750/2800 and it pretty much exceeds my 308 @ 20" pushing 178gr BTHP at 2630 with a max load, in everything but energy. I have a friend who has a lathe and shop setup who's prices are generous. So i could have it spun up without being out of too much money before hunting season, then send it to kampfield for flutes and cerakote.
Here are a few of my 16" and 18" rifles. I have not shot the DT yet but this week I will be.

I love that black 16" 308, and if you transplanted the ST10 I would be obsessed. People forget about classic black on Custom Rifles, and a 16" folding chassis 308 with a ST10 has always been a favorite platform of mine

What bullet are you shooting and what velocity are you getting?
Set it up to run the 130 vlds.
Current load is running 130 vlds 2700-2715 with H4350 and is super accurate. There is probably a higher node, but no need to push it for what I need. Worked up to 2850+ with RL-17 but the accuracy wasn't quite there.
I do have a very good load with the nosler 120 BT, running 2875 with RL-17. Haven't tried any 140's yet.
16.5" 260 CTR in GRS Berserk, CDI bm w/3-12 LRHS, barrel shortened/threaded and bolt fluted by LRI
. Have any of y'all looked at or does one in a 6.5saum/gap4s? I didn't see any in the last few pages. I've got the itch to do one in a 16 inch and thought it would be easy to still keep speeds at 2800+ without really pushing the gun. And still shoot 140s plus I plan to run it suppressed. It's something that wouldn't get shot a lot just playing every now and then and shooting coyotes and deer. So not worried a ton about barrel life. Any reason to or to not do a saum over a creedmoor or x47?

While i think it sounds good in theory to still have the velocity numbers due to the cartridge capability i just think it's too short as the gains probably wouldn't be that substantial, even with the additional powder capacity. Probably wasting a lot of powder.
Yup. Stuffing your suppressor full of burning H1000.
I'm sure it can be done. If you follow the rule of thumb of 25fps per inch and cut down from normal 24-28" speeds, you're in about that range 2750-2900fps for a 16-18" barrel. But you also gotta figure you're burning 60 grains of H1000, where a 6.5x47 would be using more like 40 grains of H4350. It would be much slower and/or using lighter bullets with lower BC. Just personal preference as to whether 20 grains of powder and $1.50/ea brass is worth a couple fewer clicks on the turret.
I have a 28" 6.5 SAUM and it is not cheap to feed coming from .260's and 6.5 Grendels.

Really somewhat surprised Lapua hasn't manufactured any 6x47 brass. I think it would be the 6mm cartridge to have if they did so. Of course i'm a huge fan of the 6.5x47 as well so somewhat biased.

Choose a certain barrel length you want, then choose the performance level you want (FPS with a said bullet weight), and then just go up in chambering size until you get what you want....It is that simple

Awesome looking rifle! How do you like that compact Manners stock? I've been eyeing that one for my next build but I'd like to know how the cheek weld works since there's no riser
Yeah the CZ 455 is a great 22LR mine is very accurate and fun to shoot. It likes Wolf MT but I really should try some Lapua.
17" on the SAUM and 18" on both 6.5 WSM's. I will need to go check my MV's on the WSM's as I have shot both 130 Berger's and a variety of 140 class bullets.
My load data is not here. Load room is not at my house.
16.5". Only shot it a few times off a bench with factory Prime and Copper Creek ammo, and it does well. I've not worked up a load, and my groups are easy sub moa. I could probably do better but I'm only using a 9x scope. With a Ti can, this thing is still quite portable. Check weld is okay, but I recommend trying this stock for anything you'll spend much time behind.
This is my hunting rifle this year. Specs below, it also feeds the factory ammo out of the pmags well, to save a few more ounces.

What does the bare rifle weigh? Thinking of doing something very similar, but probably in 308win for a truck/deer gun.
I'll put it on the scale, not sure. I think it was still less than 10 with optic and can. You might ask Core. 6.5 cm in that short barrel is effectively a 308 by trajectory, but with less recoil. I like it so far.
As it sits my scale says 8.2. Minus the can, scope and rings it's gotta be closer to 6, maybe less.
Anyone know what stock (forend) wrap that is? I'm looking for something like this but my googlefu sucks.

Looks like an SO Tech skid pad. I had one years ago but don’t know if they are still made.
