22 creedmoor

I have a Tikka ctr that I’m about to rebarrel. I’m leaning towards an 18” 22 creedmoor, but all this talk about different twist rates and bullets not stabilizing/blowing up has me a little apprehensive. I live/hunt about 250’ asl in the deep south. Will I be fine with 1:7.5 and the 88 eldm’s, or do you suggest I go with a different twist?

Good source.

Been shooting the Berger 85.5's looking for a good load. I've found some accuracy but, today, I had jackets coming apart between 3302 and 3370 over three different charges. You can actually hear the bullet come apart due to the suppressor. I had the 82's over 3500 with no separation.

Anyone else experience this?

I had 88s explode on me and had some 95s as well due to a carbon ring and I was over 3200 FPS. I think its the difference in the jacket thickness

8 twist. I called Berger. The guy wasn't shocked by the 85.5's coming apart at >3500 but was very surprised that I had 82's going over 3500 with no issue. He was going to check with the engineers and see if they've had any reported issues. Although, to be fair, they're so new I might be the first one.

Hey, dumb question

been dealing with health issues and laziness, havent shot my .22 C with new test loads yet.

How do you know when a bullet comes apart, sound, no holes on the target? I will shoot surressed, will the bullet come apart inside the suppresor and damage it ??? Omega 30 can

I have a 24 inch 7 twist proof blank on the bench and was wondering if the old 75 amax and the 75, 80, or 88 eldms would hold together or if I should try to get an 8 twist? I do tend to hunt in the cold and about 2200 DA a bit as well.

It happens after the first 20 yards and before 100 yards normally. Nothing on target an a faint Small Greyish cloud will show up for a couple seconds

Here is a video of a 90g Berger coming apart.
Video won't load, but here is the stopped frame.
You see the powder and the little white dot, bullet blowing up.

Not sure what to tell you, but I have had zero issues with the Berger 85.5’s out of my 26” 8 twist. I’m on my third box of these. I run 40.5 grains of RL17 and they are 3380-3400fps (with suppressor). I’ve worked them out to 800yds so far with amazing results.

I’m usually hunting at 3400-4500 asl with humidity below 30% almost all of the time with temps below 40. With that said, my 8 Twist does really well with the 75 and 80 eldm’s. I get some of my best groups with the 75’s on 37.0 grains of Varget @ 3410fps. The 80’s perform well too with 43.8 grains of Superformance and are about 3520fps.

I ended up getting a 22" 8 twist and trading off my 7 twist. Was worried it would start popping pills down the road.

I don't want to neck turn. Could I get away with fl sizing starline 6 creed or should I try to get gunwerks, peterson, or alpha if i can find it?
Thanks

I primarily use Hornady 22 creed brass and just neck size with my hornady ns die (bolt gun). But I also use Hornady 6 creed brass full length sized in my Hornady fl die and trimmed down to length. Both work just fine for me. No issues with either.

Finnally got to test, mixed emotions an the 7828ssc and H4831ssc . 95SMK shot good but isnt it slow even for a 20" barrel? RL-26 was a little faster. I'm not a speedfreak, love accuracy.

These deformed bullets from tight neck seating shot fine at least at 100 yards

When will Redding dies be available? I have my 20” 1-9 twist ready to roll for 65 game kings. Hope to get 3600 fps suppressed with varget or h4895.

I talked to redding 2 months ago about something else and asked out of curiosity and they said it’s not anywhere on there radar for future calibers. I hope it changes or if someone else has a positive update I’m happy to say I’m wrong but that’s what I know

Finished my seating depth test and was happy with the result. I was shooting for 3120 since it’s a 6.5 twist barrel but seems to be working ok

I shot it against my 22 dasher for anyone that’s curious. 6.5 twist as well and both are finished at 26 inches

Have you ran any other powders wit the SMK"s?

No I haven't, I was pleased with the load and never tried anything else. I'm in the process of having the gun rebarreled so when it returns I plan on trying a few different powders since RL26 is in the land of fairy tales

For the 65, you will want to run Varget instead of the H4350. We run the 69tmk with 39.0gns of Varget and its magic. 3510fps from 20" 9tw. Nearly identical speeds from that load in more than one 20" rifle. You might have to "stand on it" to get the 3600. I would strongly recommend the SRP Lapua brass for that and stay the hell away from Alpha brass, it shows pressure signs way before the Lapua and doesn't give the speed. That is not just my findings either.

Anyone here with a 22 Creed built on a Tikka? Thinking of throwing one together to use with CTR mags. If using CTR mags, anyone run into issues with longer projectiles like 90-95 gr SMKs?
