Shot this group with my Savage LRP 260 at 453yds, I shot the two closer shots (1.5" apart) and a friend fired the 3rd, 3 shots- 2" group. 43.1gr H4350, 2.850 oal, 142gr SMK, 1x fired Lapua brass, CCI 200 primer -2825fps Av

Now you are thinking instead of being frustered. Just remember,one thing at a time. Mine surprised me one day when i decided to try Hornadys Superformance Powder and the 120 gr. A-MAX bullet. I have a 1x8.5 twist. That should not make a difference though. I was getting over 3100 fps. and 1/4" @ 100 yds. My barrel has less rd. count than yours to date. I also load that load in Lapua brass. I mainly load the Win. brass because i have so much of it. It works just as well in Lapua. Hope this helps. ....... SEMPER FI!
Update: So I swapped scopes and tried 3 groups of my most accurate load to date. One 5 shot group was touching and the other two would group a couple and spit a couple out. I was letting the barrel cool sufficiently so I was back in the same boat. I took the rifle back to my smith last Monday because I had exhausted my knowledge of what could possibly be the problem.
The first thing he commented on was the sound of the firing pin when it dropped. On my 308 that he built it snaps and hits like a sledgehammer. On the Surgeon action, it sounded a little more "tin-ny" for lack of a better word. He noticed it when he assembled the rifle but seeing as it was not his action he did not mess with it because he did not know what Surgeon was going for. We pulled the bolt apart and did a side by side hillbilly spring compression test on a kitchen scale and noted that the Surgeon spring broke around 16# and the Remington spring broke at around 24#. I ordered up a couple of Wolff springs to see if that makes a difference. To me it would make sense if I was getting a weak or inconsistent FP strike that I would have such goofy inconsistencies between groups of the same load.
I will let you know....
I also did an OCW test with Varget and had great results for the first two shots and then when I went back thru with the third shot it went crazy.....letting the barrel cool 2min in between shots.

I didn't do much testing with 4831SC and 140 vld. I did work up to 47grs and it shot really well, with low es/sd and speed around 2800 fps with 24" barrel. I plan to work with them in the fall .

With my first 260 Rem, my very first load was H4831SC and 140 gr A-Max and it went well. When I returned to this load recently, I kept getting pressure signs at 46gr or thereabouts with Nosler brass. I've parked this load at the minute.

I've tested my Beanland 260 for a month or more now before loading up any large amounts of ammo. I'm running an MTU 8.5tw Krieger, @24", and I could care less about velocity, but I tried my heart out to run H4350 with, 123 Scenars, 139 Scenars, 140 Amax, and 136 Scenars. I stopped by my local FFL and he had 30lbs of same lot H4831sc in 1lb containers, and Varget, so I bought enough to shoot my brrl out. I tried 1gr increments of the H4831sc from 42-43-44-45, beside more H4350 from 40-41-42-43-44. Every group I fired with H4350 would shoot .7-.8" @ 100y but when I shot the 45g H4831sc it was 5 shots that measured .216", so I went straight back to the bench, loaded up 5 more, and added a target, but decided to shoot the same 5 shot target, and with 1 called flyer it measured .361" and without (9 shots) it measured .261". I then stopped, stepped back to 300, and shot a .361" 5 shot group. All these were .05" off the lands. Give 4831sc a try, it will amaze.

Just posted it in the bolt action forum. Everything just changed when I went to H4831, and then more when I screwed my Brake on. Gotta pic of 8 shot group, and my latest 5 shot group at 150yd. Shooting the 139 scenar, and 140 Hybrid. Both are shooting in the low 2800's. Rem Brass, with 6 loads on em now. (Using original box of 20 with core lokts, lol) Have 100 Lapua's and 300 Rem, and a crap load of 308, 243, and 7mm08. Not weighing anything, using Lee Press, BR primers, loaded at 2.810" with a max of 2.818".
I've had some success with this load this summer.

ya... thats a waste of bullets...
better off looking for balpark best loads for your powder/bullet that everyone else is using, then go +-.3gr from that for 1 full .gr... no need to reinvent the wheel.. load a normal COL, like 2.8.. after u have a good load, then tweak load depth
Just finished my load this morning. Gun is a savage 12 lrp with a 26 inch barrel. Lapua 260 brass, 140 amax, cci 200 primers. 46.6 grains h4831sc and bullet seated .040 off the lands. Averages .6's at 100 yards. Muzzle velocity average of 2873 fps, sd 5, es 17.
Still going through all of the data but here's the info I have so far. Flat Primers at 45.4grs but no extractor marks or heavy bolt lift. Will post a target photo tonight. Next step is to play with seating depth.

Same chrono? My 26” Krieger 8.5 twist is pushing 140amax at 2900 with 43.2gr 4350. But that's lapua brass. I'd expect lower velocities with Remington brass.
Try lapua brass and federal primers.

tscustoms is building me another 260 and its gonna be my pack in gun for shooting coyotes its a rem action with a bartlien rem varmint profile cut to 18 inches. just wondering if anyone has shot a 260 that short and what types of powder you use
Picking up a Sako Hunter Stainless in 260 tomorrow now that my 10-day wait period is up (good old California). I went in to check it out today and measure the mag length which came out to 2.945 so at least that won't limit my loading much. Thanks EuroOptic for coming through yet again!
I'm loading up some Barnes 120gr TTSX and 127gr LRX since CA won't be allowing lead in hunting bullets anymore.
My TRG in 260 loves the Berger Hunting VLDs so I've never got into these all-copper bullets.
Anyone shoot these with H4350? Also, anything I should watch out for with these bullets? Using virgin Lapua brass and CCI BR2... thanks!

i've got a sako 75 1 in 9 twist which shoots 120 tsx (not the tipped one) very well with 45.6 4350 in rem. brass and fed 210s...10 off lands (not what barnes recommends though)...also good groups with rl 17 same charge with a little more speed....have had problems with lapua brass and barnes and accubonds loading hard and concentricity not as good I think because the necks are thicker....123 smk loaded fine in the lapua though.....

I thought the only difference was cup density? I thought the FPS would be the same, but I'm interested to see if there's a difference too.
Due to component availability (or lack there of) I've had to change from 123gr Amax's to 140gr Hornady BTHP's. I guess it's a blessing in disguise really, my rifle seems to really like the 140's.

I'm running 140gr Hornady HPBT over 43.0gr H4350 in Nosler brass with CCI-200, and through a 20" 1:8 McGowen getting nearly the same velocity.
Right around 43gr seems to be a fairly popular load from what I've seen. It has only taken me 35 rounds to find a charge weight and tune this loads seaing depth, much better than with the 123's. Now I just need to stretch it out and see how they fly past 275yds.

I developed a load using rem brass, br-2 primers, berger 140 hunting vld, 43gr of H4350, seated at 2.88".
So during development it was pretty well at 2780 average on speed through my RCBS chrony. Then yesterday I got to shoot at 900 yds. According to that speed it should take about 24 moa and to get on target it took 28 moa and was a little low. So if you back that into the calculator it's like 2575-2600 fps. WTF.....
What do y'all think? Try a different powder? Way slow barrel? Or just shoot lighter bullets faster?

That's a big discrepancy between your chronograph what's your seeing, do you know what your real world dope was for 5, 6 and 300?

Yea I know doesn't make any sense. That's damn near max load and everyone else is getting 2750+ seems like. My best 5 shot group was .4377 at 100 and .612 at 200.

Get your dope for 3 5 six and seven and see if those what velocity those line up with.
That way you can rule out a scope tracking issue
