Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

Here's my hunting load for deer. No chrono info, but it works great on putting meat on the table!

.308 win
BH Match/Winchester brass
Federal LR Match primer
RL-15 @ 44.5 grs
Sierra 150 gr BTSP
2.80" coal

Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

I tried searching but couldnt find any loads for the 167gr lapua scenars. I have seen loads for the 150's but not the 167's. If anyone could lead me in the right direction that would be great.

thanks

No I have not tried any other brass

Just got into relading a couple weeks ago, and black hills is all I shot before, and now using all the saved brass

Raven34, try 44 grains Varget, CCI primer and load 10 thou off the lands. Gives about .7 inch using my Savage 10FP LE2 26" tube, 1 in 10 twist. Velocity makes about 2760.

I am just switching to 170 Lock Bases, 44,5 Varget gives about 2780 (average) and a group about .6". Will be trying them at long range in the new year so will let you know how it goes.

Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

Load data from today at approx. 18 degrees F.
These loads were fired out of a Sako TRG-22 20" barrel 1-10

155 grn Lapua Scenar
45.8grn Varget
Fed 210 primer
mixed BH and Winchester brass
five shot string (first one didn't register on my chrono),
1, 2787
2, 2709
3, 2783
4, 2691

175grn SMK
Fed 210 primers
mixed brass lot
44.9 grn Varget
1, 2614
2, 2518
3, 2577
4, 2521
5, 2542
same load second string
1, 2538
2, 2554
3, 2577
4, 2560
5, 2603

avg of the two strings is 2560.

I also loaded a couple of 210grn Bergers with 37grn of Varget
1, 2087
2, 1982
3, 1978
4, 1976

The Bergers need a bit more of a push!

I worked the SMK load up to 44.9 of varget and plan to go much farther!!
The Lapua Scenar could have been pushed even faster since there was absolutly no sign of pressure from that 45.8 grn load from what I could tell.

All in all I'm not where I want to be with my 175grn loads but the 155's seem to be getting there.
I I had a great time shooting with Dust_Remover today and have to say thank you for the help on the range!

Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

Here are some 300yrd groups from yesterday. I am testing my loads for a 600yrd f-class match. I wish I had the software to measure the groups. The wind was rough on me yesterday. 59deg f, 35% hum, 17-20mph wind from about 2:00, 239asl. Rifle is a DPMS LR308 with an 18" bull, PRS, Harris bipod, RRA 2 stage trigger, Midwest px stubby mags. Nikon Buckmaster scope 4-14x40MD in Burris signiture rings with 1/4" clicks. That's why I have inches marked on the targets, not MOAs.
HPIM1926.jpg
HPIM1927.jpg

I pulled one shot in each group real bad.

Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

Loading AIAW 20" Barrel in 0.308 Win.
Hello guys,
I would like to ask for some help.
I was using my AR-10-A4 and my loads were .308 Sierra 168 grain Molly Coated BTHP with 43,5 Grains of IMR 40-64.
That was working fine but i am not a semi-auto kind of guy so it has to go.
Now I got myself a new rifle, 20'' Stainless Steel Barrel 1-10 twist and of course a bolt action.
I understand ( weight of the bullet, length and twist of the barrel plus amount of powder must be fine tuned in order to stabilize the bullet ).
That gives us a lot of opportunities to play around with the variations.
It is all fun but I need a short cu,t a "cheat sheet ".
Does any of you guys could share theirs best loads, taking in consideration above listed conditions? I would greatly appreciate good info.
I am interested in the loads for .308 in 168 and 155 grains weights.
Best regards
and thank you, this is a great place.

Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

Can someone post velocity and powder for 155 scenars from a 16in RRA Elite Operator. Not sure if this is the best choice for bullets from this rig. Looking to get to 800 or so. Trying to build a match rig.

thats still pretty tight, 1.5" at 300 yards. Looks like the crusaders can deliver that performance out of the box.

Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

They do deliver, as they should for the $$. In fact when I was working this load up one of the strings I shot 1/4 moa. Just wasn't able to do it consistently. Using bipod and rear bag prone. Pressures are at the high end, I believe I will back it off to about 46.2 grains. Primer pockets are not holding up well. Enjoy!

Re: Loads For .308 Winchester

Just started to reload about a month ago. A lot of help from Cpl Snafu, and from all the reading here on the hide, especially TresMon's write ups.

Finally found my load:

Varget Powder 45.5gr.
Lapua Brass
CCI BR2 Primer
OAL 2.891
MV at 2800 fps out of my 24" stainless 5R barrel

Actually not too long, the first batch was testing different charges 45.0, 45.5, 46.0, and 46.5
46.0 had the nicest group @ 100yd, but show just a tiny bit of pressure sign, so I settled with 45.5gr.

2nd batch I seated 5 different depths and found the right recipe. So it really only took 2 trips, and 100 rounds to get to this. Looks good enough to me, eventhought luck had a lot to do with this group

So you found a charge first then messed with seating depths? Interesting I have always done it backwards and I found my data to be a little bit more complicated. I will have to try this for my new rifle
